Meet the Owner: Andrea Conover
How does a woman who sold computers for Hewlett-Packard in Washington, DC, and worked for environmental nonprofit groups in Northeast Florida decide to open a craft brewery in Palatka? For Andrea Conover, it was her love for Putnam County’s natural environment and the St. Johns River! The trails, river, and parks combine to make Putnam County truly special. The historic buildings and walkable downtown enhanced her fondness for Palatka, and she fell in love with the old Coca-Cola bottling plant built in 1937. Andrea wanted to bring the building back to life—and what better life than a microbrewery?
When Andrea isn’t brewing beer, you might find her kayaking or exploring local trails. Fun fact: She kayaked the entire St. Johns River in 2015! Andrea’s passion for the outdoors and community shines through in everything Azalea City Brewing Co. offers. She wanted to create a family-friendly meeting place where everyone could enjoy good company, share outdoor adventures, and plan their next outing.
The Story Behind the Brewery
Azalea City Brewing Co. is the brainchild of Andrea Conover, a passionate beer enthusiast who’s proud to share her craft with the Palatka community. Though she calls herself an “advanced beginner” in the world of craft beers, she’s already expanded her palate beyond light and blonde styles to reds, browns, porters, and stouts. Her current favorites are any beers with coconut, coffee, or chocolate—especially the brewery’s Mud Spring Chocolate Stout.
The Venue
The brewery’s historic building adds a unique character to every visit. As early as February 21, 1913, the Palatka Coca Cola Bottling Plant operated here, producing 400 cases daily with 800 dozen bottles consumed by patrons. Delivery was made by rail, water, and automobile. The company had two trucks and used filtered artesian water. This legacy of quality and innovation lives on in Azalea City Brewing Co., where history meets modern craft beer excellence. With its warm, industrial-chic décor and inviting vibe, Azalea City Brewing Co. is the perfect spot to kick back with friends or enjoy a casual date night. Their spacious layout also makes it an excellent venue for hosting events, from live music and trivia nights to the crowd-favorite Paint Nites.
