🌱THAT'S A WRAP🌱

We would like to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who helped spread the word and came to support this years Bury St Edmunds Seed Swap. For a second year in a row we had an amazing turn out with people queuing to enter the venue. Because of everyone involved and all of your generous donations, we have raised £332.64 for Suffolk Wildlife Trust.

This event could not have gone ahead without joint efforts from Chris Wiley from Bury in Bloom, Chantal from Grow My Wellbeing, Amy from Amy's allotment adventure & Fred From Fothergills UK. We had the most generous seed donations from Fred to help kickstart this years event and fill all of our seed baskets (and some!). We also received support for a second year in a row from Bury St Edmunds Town Council to fund the equipment needed to help us bring this fantastic event to the community.

For your surplus seedings you can Join Bury In Bloom for their brand new Plant Swap at the Quaker meeting house on St John's Street on Saturday 19th April, 11:30 - 15:30. Where all money raised will go towards Bury In Bloom.

🌱TODAY IS THE DAY🌱

Come and join us TODAY from 11:30AM for the Bury St Edmunds Seed Swap Event. We have lots going on and we are being joined by some fantastic charities and businesses. This event is open to the general public and is FREE to attend.

You can swap shop bought or home picked vegetable seeds, flower seeds, gardening magazines, books or potted house plants. If you have no seeds to swap, we are asking for a small donation of 50p an item. All donations collected will go to charity.

🌱 For this years event we couldn't think of a better cause to raise funds for than Suffolk Wildlife Trust! 🌱

Suffolk Wildlife Trust is the only organisation dedicated to safeguarding Suffolk’s wildlife and countryside. They make a massive difference for Suffolk by managing nature reserves - securing a bigger, better and more connected landscape for wildlife and by inspiring the next generation through hands-on experiences with nature.

🌱 HOUSE PLANT SWAP 🌱

Happy to announce we are co-hosting again this year with Grow My Wellbeing who will be running the house plant swap and potting station. Bring in any unwanted tropical house plants, succulent or cacti to swap or if you have nothing to swap you can make a 50p donation.

Please only bring plants that are in good condition and pest free.

You will be able to find us at the Centre on St Johns Street 11:30AM - 3:30PM on Saturday 22nd February

🌱 Old School Cafe 🌱

In the same venue that is hosting the Bury St Edmunds Seed Swap we have the fantastic Old School Cafe, who have kindly said they will stay open for the duration of the event. Come and stop by for the event and stay for coffee and cake!

The cafe boasts a selection of sourdough toasties, grazing boards, flatbreads, cakes and more. They also have an outdoor seating area that is beautiful in the summer time, and are dog friendly. This place is a hidden gem in Bury St Edmunds ✨

🌱 The Venue 🌱

This years Bury St Edmunds Seed Swap Event will be held at The Centre on St John's Street. It is a lovely venue located about half way down St John's Street, next to St John the Evangelist Church. This venue meets a wide variety of educational, recreational and social needs and is firmly rooted in the local community. It has been transformed through extensive restoration and is warm and comfortable, light, bright and welcoming to all.

Where is the Bury St Edmunds Seed Swap?

We will be holding the event at the Centre on St John's Street in Bury St Edmunds. The venue is towards the bottom of the street and is next to the church. The event will be on Saturday 22nd February from 11:30AM until 3:30pm.

We have chosen this date because lots of varieties of flowers and vegetable seeds can be planted from March in a greenhouse or on a windowsill ☀️

✨ We have some news….

WE WON!!!!! Bury St Edmunds Seed Swap won the Eco Friendly category at the Community Awards hosted by Bury Free Press and Bury St Edmunds Town Council 🤩🤩🤩

Organised by Naomi Hamer and Chris Wiley, we hosted the first Seed Swap in February this year, with funding from the Town Council and generous seed donations from Sarah Raven and Thompson & Morgan UK. The event was so popular that it will be returning on 22 Feb 2025!

Sadly Naomi couldn’t make the awards last night, but we’d both like to thank you SO MUCH for all your nominations - it really does mean a lot to us both ☺️

🌱 THANK YOU 🌱

A massive thank you to everyone who helped spread the word and came to support this years Bury St Edmunds Seed Swap. There was such a great turn out that there was not a single moment the venue wasn't bustling with green fingers and happy faces, and at one point there was queues to the door! It filled our hearts seeing people from all ages come together over a love or interest in gardening and growing.

This event could not have run without the amazing input and support from co-host Chris Wiley from Bury in Bloom, and Chantal from Grow My Wellbeing. We had the most generous seed donations from Sarah Raven and Thompson & Morgan UK which filled all of our baskets with initial stock for you all. And we received support from Bury St Edmunds Town Council to fund the equipment needed to help us bring this fantastic event to the community.

Thanks to all of your donations of seeds and money, we managed to raise £179 for Suffolk Hedgehog Hospital to help them carry out their vital work for hedgehog rescue and rehoming. Over the next few coming weeks the left over seeds will be donated to schools and gardening projects in the area.
