On Wednesday 18th December, I had the absolute honour to lead the funeral ceremony for Harry William Olley- the grandfather of a friend.

I usually say that I don’t do funerals, as I love the joy of weddings and baby namings- but there was plenty of joy in celebrating Harry’s incredible 93 years. From being married for over 70 years, becoming a talented carpenter, a doting dad and grandad to rubbing shoulders with the Beatles- Harry truly lived a life to remember.

But what is more special than all of that, is his legacy. A legacy of love, of putting family before all else, of laughter and practical jokes- and my personal favourite- a few choice four-letter words!

Although I didn’t know him personally, it clear not only how much he loved those around him, but how much they loved him. And in life, what more could you ask for? 🖤

For hundreds of years, baptisms and christenings welcomed babies into the community and the church.

People rejoiced and celebrated the arrival of the new bundle of joy. Family, friends and Godparents made a commitment to love, cherish and guide the little one as they grew and promised to show they how to be good people!

So what’s changed…?

Baptisms and Christenings are still very important, but they are strongly linked to God, the church and specific religious beliefs.

Many people these days don’t want the religious element- but why should that mean you don’t hold a celebration for your gorgeous new arrival?

Registrars have so many rules… time of day, location, licenses. Whereas celebrancy is totally free, you can make your ceremony totally about you. You’re in control of everything- music, readings, times, people and where the ceremony takes place.

A gorgeous and glowing recommendation from the lovely Hannah and Adam. I adored writing their ceremony and was so glad it was everything they wanted! Especially as they opted for a surprise ceremony.

I think it just shows how well I get to know my couples before I start creating their script, that I can find just the right words for their vow renewal! They were such an incredible couple and I look forward to doing anyone for their next big anniversary!
