THANK YOU MIDWEST MARDI GRAS ATTENDEES! Now that the dust has settled, just want to give a heart felt thank you to all that supported our Inaugural Midwest Mardi Gras Mayor's Ball and After Party at Canterbury Park! And for those who couldn't make it, hope to see you next year for an even larger scale event!

Shout out to my cousin Peanut and family members from Louisiana who made the trip up with those amazing decorations and hand made Mardi Gras king and queen costumes on display. The king cake was amazing (thank you Mateo Mackbee of Krewe Restaurant), food menu done by Canterbury Park, St. Paul Winter Carnival leadership and royalty (King Boreas, Queen of Snows, Royal Guard, Prime Minister, and Royal Court), B & B 360 Spin Productions for that fun video booth, the MVP Band and Happy Lance Brunious for the amazing music, and our vendors like Teneka's Gifted Hands, MN Automotive, Posh Events 2, and those amazing hats by Wesley Smith.

To wrap up, it was so beautiful to see lots and lots of people from all walks of life just enjoying themselves, having fun, and not even thinking about it, truly participating in the Mardi Gras experience. Many of them for the first time! It felt like an event from where we grew up in Louisiana. That's the goal! Stay tuned for updates on the next venue and set of dates! The Mardi Gras tradition is here to stay if we have anything to say about it! Midwest Mardi Gras out!

Mardi Gras Fun Fact of the day! Did you know: New Orleans Mardi Gras parades have only been cancelled 13 times since inception, usually due to wars. The two most recent were 1945 (WWII) and 2021 (COVID-19 pandemic).

Mardi Gras fun fact! Has anyone had a king cake before? Known to be one of the most popular Mardi Gras desserts, it's a braided circular cake with Mardi Gras colors green, purple, and gold with just about any kind of filling you can think of. Almost like a braided coffee cake. The unique thing about it is there's a plastic baby inside it and whoever finds it in their slice has to bring a king cake to next year's celebration (to whomever they're enjoying it with). Unfortunately, I got stuck with that one eating with family several times! Come and have some with us at the Midwest Mardi Gras Mayor's Ball and After Party on 3/30th!

What's gumbo? It's a staple Louisiana dish served over rice, with a base or roux containing chicken, sausage (multiple types like smoked or andouille), shrimp, even oysters! It's typically a winter dish, but we make it all year long! YUMMY!
