In a recent post (www.naturism.wales) I disclosed I refused access to 56% of all applications for membership in the last year for individuals failing to complete safeguards during the onboarding process. As many agree this is a shocking statistic but one that needs to be addressed as we strive forward for quality (genuine) members ahead of numbers and financial gain (via membership/event sales). I wonder what the percentage of applications are refused in other groups/organisations/clubs and so on.

Some independent groups with safeguarding professionals within their team continue to drive the standards up to manage the ever looming threats to our communities that (due to GDPR) can’t be made general knowledge.

Many of the independent organisations are really tightening security physically and online. It’s really very important to become more disciplined in safety and safeguarding as the world of AI becomes more easily accessible to the public, perverts and predators. The threat is very real and to some the safeguarding efforts are considered unnecessary and even extreme. However, I assure you that those of us who are safeguarding professionals see more than we could ever wish to and more than what Joe Public would ever want to. The problem of knowledge is that you can’t unlearn something once it’s there - you simply need to learn further how to manage that knowledge - if that makes sense?

A national organisation in the last year reported on how they have a number of safeguarding incidents at each event which are effectively managed to maintain safety. This demonstrates the need to continue to evolve and remain diligent when planning activities and nurturing our community.

I’m aware of one event organising group that are using ANPR this year - what a brilliant idea - and I too would like to follow their brilliant example.

Some may say it’s too much and I wonder why? I’m aware of one organisation that has sold out and has a waiting list should tickets become available and so I am of the opinion that such safeguarding and safety precautions encourage genuine naturists to attend functions/events/activities and join online communities because the safer space concept is what we all really want to have real fun with great friends.

I would love to learn your thoughts (for and against).

A huge thank you to everyone for their contributions in 2023 for all the fund raising efforts to buy a defibrillator for our home in Halkyn. Today I was made aware of the new equipment on site.
