Pour sa troisième édition, ROSE BÉTON invite des artistes à faire de Toulouse, dans la continuité de l’édition 2016, une galerie à ciel ouvert, une ville plus que jamais internationale et colorée. Venus des États-Unis (Hense, Momo et Mark Jenkins), de Hollande (Jeroen Erosie), d’Allemagne (le duo Moses & Taps), du Brésil (Rero) ou de France (Tania Mouraud et Mlle Kat), ils inventeront un nouveau p

arcours d’art urbain, d’avril à septembre 2019. Trois artistes de la scène internationale s’y installeront cette année : Tania Mouraud (Paris), invitée d’honneur de la biennale, à l’œuvre plurielle, sensible et engagée, Cleon Peterson (Los Angeles), passé de la peinture d’atelier à l’art urbain, connu pour les grandes et terribles fresques qu’il peint dans l’espaces public un peu partout dans le monde, et Todd James (New York), issu du graffiti, aux toiles acidulées mais féroces. Qu’est-ce qui relie tous ces artistes alors que certains sont autodidactes et d’autres non, que certains sont issus du graffiti et d’autres non, que certains sont peintres et d’autres non ? Sans doute le désir de faire partager, par l’art, leur regard sur le monde. Après la version historique du graffiti présentée en 2016, l’heure est désormais au dialogue entre les générations, les nationalités et les médiums, entre la rue et le musée.

Cleon Peterson is an LA based artist whose chaotic and violent paintings show clashing figures symbolizing a struggle between power and submission in the fluctuating architecture of contemporary society. The imagery of Cleon Peterson is not only strong because of its striking visual quality and its relevance to our world today. Although all too easily associated with the barbaric sectarian violence in the Middle East and escalating excrescence that is the current geopolitical turmoil, it’s also deeply rooted in Western cultural history, from the classic Greco-Roman vases depicting warriors and battles, to the marvelous decapitation paintings of Caravaggio and violent masterpieces of Goya.
