I'm based in Lenzie, and I take photographs at amazing weddings across Scotland. I love creating photographs to capture the unique atmosphere of a wedding, and the individual personalities of the couple and their friends and family.

I love photographing pre-wedding prep. Truth be told, it’s one of my absolute favourite parts of the day. There’s a unique energy to it – the pace, the vibe, the camaraderie. You're there with your team, whether that's family, friends, or both, each of you adding to the buzz and excitement.

For me, it’s like having a backstage pass. I get to be part of the behind-the-scenes moments, the beginning of a day you’ll never forget. That’s something I don’t take for granted. But it’s more than just being there – it’s capturing the authentic story of it all. The atmosphere, the laughs, the thrill that fills the room. Every tiny detail gets attention, whether it’s tucking in a hanger strap, adjusting a flower girl’s dress, or that person who checks to see if everyone’s had a bite to eat.

Prep is pure magic. And my favourite part? Giving you that genuine story – the one you’re part of but might not fully see because you’re busy in the moment. And for your partner, it’s a window into those minutes before you walked up the aisle.

Then there are the big moments too – maybe a quiet “first look” with your VIP. That moment when you ask, "Well, do I look alright?" and even the most stoic of hearts melts with a wave of emotions they didn’t see coming.

Me? I’m just there to capture it all, frame by frame.

"In years to come, you might find yourself revisiting a few... but just the old favorites, eh?"

I never thought I’d relate quite so much to the raggedy man in his blue box. My own box being a stack of hard drives, of course, filled with stories and adventures. No planets to rescue or aliens to outwit, just love, laughter, and turning up at each new venue as a stranger but leaving as an old friend. (And I’ve yet to wear a long, stripey scarf or a fez... but if you ever spot a photographer in sonic sunglasses, just go with it.)

This wedding – it’s one of those old favorites. Kat and Alex, a story woven into a day at a family-run hotel at Onich on Loch Linnhe in the Highlands, near Ballachulish. There was something about that day that hit all the right notes, something familiar and comforting, like revisiting a beloved book or a favorite scene in Doctor Who. I find threads like that, running through so many weddings I photograph, a seam that reminds me of why I love what I do.

I woke up today thinking about weddings that stuck with me, weddings like this one, that pull me back to those treasured moments. And as I revisit this memory, I can’t help but wonder – where will the next adventure take me?

Don't you love a hidden rooftop that gives such a wonderful modern wedding feel?

Glasgow’s city centre brings that vibe perfectly. The warm red brick and the urban feel give this intimate moment a unique backdrop—classic yet unmistakably cosmopolitan.

It’s not all about rolling hills or scenic lochs (though those are beautiful too!). Sometimes, the beauty of a city you love becomes the perfect setting to capture the start of your story.

Thinking of tying the knot in Glasgow? Let’s capture your day in a way that feels like you. Reach out, and let’s make it unforgettable.

So let's talk about rain.

It happens.

Especially in Scotland.

That said, the Scottish weather is fickle, and you're just as likely to need sunglasses and Factor 30 (50 for the white as a milk bottle Scots). Sunglasses, sun cream, brollies and those wee heel stoppers. Maybe a pair of wellies to supplement the Jimmy Choos.

When Mark and Gayle got married, it was sunshine, it was rain, it was sunshine again and then rain.

This is the wedding I think of most when I chat to prospective couples about the possibility of rain. So here's my two bits of advice:

Either choose a venue with good "wet weather" alternatives indoors, or embrace it. Or perhaps a bit of both. You can't realistically change it, and sure as anything sometimes the forecast is wrong. Sometimes not in your favour either.

If you're bothered about your hair turning into a frizz ball (I have a lifetime of feeling your pain), speak to your hair stylist about your options.

My thoughts? No such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing choices.

If there's a guaranteed question that will result in me ending up looking a bit confused and lost in thought, it's this one:

What's my favourite wedding venue?

I'm sure many wedding suppliers have their favourites, but for me I struggle to think of one in particular. I know it sounds like a cop out, but I don't remember venues as much as I remember people. I remember who was there and getting married at the time.

When I'm asked that question my brain rattles like a rolodex with index cards of my past weddings, I have these images that flicker through my mind. Sometimes I have specific images that I associate with specific weddings. Not always the obvious ones either. Sometimes they spring to mind when I talk about an experience from a wedding. Like a random scene from a movie that wasn't the obvious one in the trailer.

I apologise if you have ever asked me that question, and got the slightly gormless expression of my inner brain rolodex rattling away. I love all the venues my couples choose for their day. Much like the banner on my old college building People Make Glasgow; people also make weddings.

I found this little gem of a photo hidden in a folder recently and decided it deserved to be posted. Meryl's bridesmaids and her parents standing upstairs in Leith Theatre, shortly before her wedding ceremony to Alan. No Meryl, no Alan. Wedding photos don't always have to have the stars of the show front and centre. Sometimes it's about the supporting roles that make the photo. One from my inner rolodex of memories I wanted to share.

This gorgeous wedding at Boclair House Hotel in Bearsden, on the outskirts of Glasgow was just one of pure joy.

It's a gorgeous place for a wedding. I also like it because it's quite handy for me as it's East Dunbartonshire, where I am based!

What a wedding high!

I love a beautiful autumnal wedding. There's so little you need to do with the gorgeous tones and light. And when it's a wedding like Char and Ian had at The Free Company in Balerno, then this was the perfect Autumnal crescendo to my photographic year. Plus a lovely wee first look to start with.

This was my last wedding of 2024 season. So far. I say that because 85% of my bookings have been for this year, and some have been quite last minute. So, who knows...? There's always time for a quick last minute booking in November or December.

But with the "last did 2024" in mind, I went to this wedding with a different mindset. I wanted to photograph it like it was my last wedding ever. I wanted to create photos so I wouldn't forget what weddings feel like. It ignited a wonderful feeling of creativity in me.

Of course it's not my last ever. I have 2025 to look forward to. I just enjoyed the feeling of living in the moment.

I absolutely adore this photo from a stunning wedding at the Cruin, Loch Lomond on a beautiful summer's day. Mhairi and Jon look so wonderful together.

I've been thinking recently about what all my couples have in common. Some of my couples are real foodies, and that's an important part of their wedding. For others, they enjoy similar sports, such as running. I've lost count of the number of couples who post on their stories about 5ks, 10ks, half and full marathons. I've also had quite a few who have been involved in volunteering organisations.

But there is one thing that all my couples have in common (aside from the good taste to book me 😉). It's the shared dynamic of balance in their relationships. Over the years, I've developed a knack for working out who I will end up working with when we have our first chat together.

My couples are those who come to the call and join in equally. They both talk about their shared values. They talk about what is important to them in their photos.  They tell me what they'd love to see when they look back at the images from their day. When one of them can't make it, then it's about trust and having faith that the partner will find the right photographer that meets both their needs. This isn't about one person doing all the research, and the other person having the final say without any other involvement. My couples have balance in their relationship and trust to do things without needing permission to sign it off.

I think that's why I end up enjoying photographing their weddings so much. Relationships thrive when there's balance. The weddings they have really show that. Sometimes it's about both of you bringing your strengths to the relationship and helping one another. But it's always about trust.

Does this resonate with you? I think we're going to get along brilliantly. Get in touch and let's chat about what's important to both of you with your wedding photographs.

Every so often, I love to delve back into my drives and root amongst my past weddings. I find it a useful thing to do, even between weddings. To see what I have done, what I love about past photos. What I can think about again for the future. Sometimes photos are like whisky or cheese, and you need to take some time away from them and come back and look again when the flavours have had time to grow and you've had time to let your visual palette mature.

This is a wedding from a few years ago. A beautiful spring wedding, at a church then onto the family home for a very private and very personal reception.

I love weddings that incorporate a bit of home in them. The safe space where you were and are allowed to be and become, that shaped you.

Do you ever have dreams about a place you've lived years ago, and those little elements that gave it the magic it had, just come in little glimpses? The way the sun fell on the same spot on the living room carpet on a summer afternoon. The way you'd see tree shadows dancing on the walls in the evening light. The curtains and carpets and rugs and pictures and wallpaper. And you wake up and it's all gone. You maybe look through photos and see little hints at the room as it used to be. You scan for the things that you thought were insignificant at the time.

I love the waves of nostalgia you get from photos. I see part of my job, my role, as a wedding photographer to continue to create that from your day.

Jill And Andrew Got Married!

Jill and Andrew planned a wedding that was about being affordable, sustainable and most of all a lot of fun. And they nailed it.

Outfits from Vinted, handmade cakes, a Bake Off competition (with prizes!) and using local businesses and venues and family and friends, this is how to do a wedding that leaves memories not a carbon footprint.

I think one of the things about my couples is how much I end up really feeling a connection with them. Jill and Andrew couldn't have been closer to my perfect couple if I tried. The way you sit and nod your head through that first meeting that you feel like your head might fall off. And Andrew makes the same terrible "I've got the Key/I've got the secret " joke I do... 🙌

Don't you just love how incredible the Ochils look too? I mean, Jill and Andrew look gorgeous, but the Ochils in the background just looked incredible . When the cloud lifted it looked like a painted backdrop.

Big shout out to the wonderful
Who absolutely nailed it in front of a huge crowd of 160 guests in the church.

A beautiful sneak peek from Laura and Chris incredible intimate wedding in Dunkeld at Dungarthill House. It really was the stuff my photography dreams are made of. A beautiful setting and a laidback day, with good food, good music, and a selection of close friends and family there to celebrate.

As for me, well I got to take the photos that I enjoy taking most. Laid-back is most definitely my favourite type of wedding.

Also can we talk about - for a moment - that stunning hot air balloon chandelier? The sort that puts all the other chandeliers in the shade.

No drama-llamas here, just alpacas with my lovely bride and groom at Carrick Castle Estate.

Not all animals are so comfortable in front of the camera. That said I've photographed several cats. Turns out the way to entice is through their curiosity, which usually happens when I have my camera bag open. It smells interesting! (Specifically to cats).

When I got married, there was no way I could really have my cats involved. So instead I incorporated them into our day in homage, and left them to enjoy having an empty.

I am an animal fan. As long as the animals are happy and comfortable, I love it when people incorporate them into their wedding, either in real life like this, or in absence. Animal people are my people.

I've been thinking about when right time to share this post would be.

I have been thinking about wedding photos that give hygge vibes. The details and things that you bring to your wedding, the small elements that combined together add to that warmth for you and your guests. Because wedding photos aren't just about cute couples to me. It's about the essence, the smells, the flavours, the feeling. Sometimes when I think about weddings, I think about the sounds as much as the imagery. I think about a glass and that glugging sound it makes as it's slowly filled up, increasing in pitch. I think about glasses clinking over circular tables during speeches. I think about the most unexpected dirty laugh mid speech. I think about the person standing next to whoever is about to walk down the aisle saying "are you ready, love?". Or the bridesmaid prepping a young child before they lead the way. I think about the grandparents sitting on a chair outside, enjoying this beautiful day in their twilight age. The anxious person in the wedding party asking for reassurance if they've got a buttonhole straight, or if their laces are ok, or their tie or kilt, or dress or hair. The person offering sandwiches and snacks to anyone who enters the room during prep. The person who is the Bear Grylls of weddings, and knows when to dab the bouquet, how to get rid of a wine stain, and snips tags off clothes and has everything under control. I think about the details, the smell of a bonfire in the evening, the fresh brewed coffee after a meal, the warmth of rugs and blankets, the twinkle of candles. You guys look cute n all, but it's only part of the story.

Autumn is the perfect season for gathering together your hygge inspiration to bring those delicious elements together at your wedding.

I love September for weddings.

I love all times of year, but here's why I am a September fan.

❤️ The weather in Scotland can still be quite warm. Not sunburn warm, but enjoyable. The need for heavy winter coats hasn't yet arrived. It's Scotland's version of "April 25th".

❤️ Right now, golden hour is just after the meal ends. So there is still time to slip outside for some lovely evening photos.
It gets nice and dark when the party starts, so it feels like there's a clear transition between the daytime reception and evening reception.

❤️ I can safely guarantee your photos will be edited in time for you to order an album just in time for Christmas. My gallery has an option for you to design your own wedding album, so you can have total control over how it looks. Also the album companies are all professional photo labs, so these aren't options you'll find in the general consumer market. Even if you don't want an album you can still order prints for friends and family. Makes a lovely Christmas gift for the people you love who helped you out.

❤️ Also my kids are not only back at school but settled into their routines, and it's only a month until my birthday. Win-win.

Sneak peek Sunday!

This was an amazing wedding for Val and Lewis. Married at Montrose Street at the City Chambers in Glasgow, then a big party the next day.

I think one of the greatest things has been the surge in small weddings in the last few years. I love that people are planning a day closer to their personalities. And maybe you want the intimacy of a small ceremony but then a brilliant party later. Val and Lewis did exactly that. Kept it small for the ceremony but had a separate party and went bigger with that. I've worked wonderfully.

The old mold for weddings is well and truly broken. Make it fit around you, your needs and wants, your style. It makes me wonder what else we will see happen in weddings in the coming years.

Pretty maids all in a row.

Group photos are part of your day. My approach is to keep it fairly laid back though. I absolutely do not want people feeling like they're reliving that awkward class photo experience when they were at school. It's a record of who was there on the day and we aren't going to overthink it.

Overthinking ends up awkward.

But I also fully appreciate the usefulness and importance of group photos.

My advice?

Bigger groups rather than lots of individuals. You have extended family and want a photo with them? Chuck them together and get a photo. It's more likely that people will print the photo of them as part of a family group for their wall, rather than lots of single photos of the family. That doesn't mean we can't adjust for divorces or family reasons that you might want separate photos though.

Is there a camera shy wall flower who will hide when they see me, but you'd be gutted if you didn't have a picture of them? Get them in a group photo.

If you've ever had a chat with me you'll know this story from my own wedding. I knew my aunt would find ways of hiding from the camera so I put her into some of the group photos. My gran on the other hand loved the camera and I think she would have been happy to have an entire photoshoot by herself 😂

SHOES.

Let's talk about shoes, baby.

Apparently, Sarah Jessica Parker is shutting down her shoe namesake company It reminded me of this pair of SJP shoes at a wedding, signed by the lady herself. You can see her wee autograph on the underside of those gorgeous yellow heels. The bride wore them the day before her wedding, and opted for the gorgeous emerald green Manolo Blahnik heels instead.

I have to confess, I'm not much a heels person these days. The most I could ever really handle was a very low heel. Nowadays with kids and camera kit being lugged around, I'm much happier in a pair of Hokas. Which are also ideal for running half marathons in as well (heels generally... less so, I can't even imagine the injuries I'd sustain before I got past the start line). Occasionally my gortex salomons if the weather is inclement.

That doesn't mean I don't appreciate a pair of beautifully crafted shoes, and I especially love to photograph them during wedding prep.

"I love it when a plan comes together" - Hannibal, The A-Team

Showing my age (...and I'm not ashamed to show it) with an 80's throwback catchphrase. It's funny how often that line plays in my head when I'm editing.

Sometimes photos are planned, other times, it's an instant moment.

Often when I'm taking photos, you see something in front of you and you have to adjust your settings. Sometimes you need to do it quickly, almost the blink of an eye because the moment is there and it will be gone as fast as it appeared. The muscle memory in your hand is fast - you adjust shutter speed, ISO, aperture while focusing and framing and you just need to react quickly. It's kind of like playing a hard level on a console game and having to respond really quickly to avoid shells or fire balls or lightning strikes. It's lovely when you manage to get it right the way you want it.

The photos I took until this point at this Ross Priory wedding were exposed slightly differently to this one, but seeing Judith standing there I knew how I wanted it to look.i loved how the make up artist's light panel worked with the light from the window to create this lovely rim light look.

Our Story

Hello, I'm Kristin, and I run Struve Photography. I’ve been photographing weddings since 2010, and it’s all about capturing the atmosphere of your day, of you and your friends and putting your photography story together.
