The Big Stooshie is Scotland's Charity Music Festival. This exciting three-day event will be the first date in the countrys festival calendar, taking place from 4-6th May 2012. With both stages undercover, this festival offers a unique experience that will not be affected by the Scottish weather. Not only do we aim to bring the best live music to your ears, but we also plan to create the best festival atmosphere around. We offer camping and non-camping packages across the weekend, and have a variety of genres performing across the Arena Stage & Kingdom FM Stage. We have something for everyone... Entertainment, a wide range of food stalls, a chill-out zone and even a fun-fair, provided and co-ordinated by Howe Country Centre. With an expected crowd of 12,000, the festival would raise upwards of £100,000 for SSAFA and Help For Heroes. (Profits from ticket sales will be donated equally to these charities after costs). In addition to raising funds for charity, The Big Stooshie also aims to provide a platform to showcase Scottish musical talent. Leading up to the festival, smaller events will take place at various Scottish venues from June 2011 until March 2012 under the banner of The Big Stooshie Scottish Tour. These events will promote The Big Stooshie concept, provide an avenue to sell tickets and also showcase Scotland’s up-and-coming musical talent. With many different bands performing at each event, the most popular will be offered the opportunity to perform in front of thousands on the big stage at the festival!

Hello, my Big Stooshie friends.
This weekend is the 8th anniversary of our excellent (but ill-fated) music festival.
So as a little memorial and I am asking for everyone to post something on this page.. Even if it's just a "hi I was there".
Did you come to the gig? Were you an organizer, a volunteer, member of a band, or maybe attendee? Post your memories (videos and photos) over the next couple of days... for no other reason than it will make me (and I suspect many others) smile during these difficult times and remember a great weekend back in 2012.
Remember to tag your friends. And share this - be interesting to see if we can get a bit of that Big Stooshiue Magic back - 8 years on!

Hello :-) I dont know if anyone still looks at this page. However I have been increasingly disappointed to see that former administrators for the Big Stooshie have been using the page for promoting businesses and products which are completely unrelated to the event.
While I realise it was a very long time ago (7 years in May), and was publicly know as a failure. I want this page to remain a testament to the project and the time and effort of many to try to "make a difference". For that reason I have removed a number of the people who had posting privileges and will remove any posts which were not directly related to the event

I would like to comment on an important message left on my last post. I did not want to leave it as a follow-up comment as it would have been lost.
Carolyn Hendry left a message for us a polite message saying that we should not have told the traders that the event would be a sell out as they lost money buy over stocking the stalls.
PLEASE NOTE - All the traders at the event were contracted by Howe Country Center/Charlie Wilson and HCC not BS benefited financially from all the income raised the stands. I have heard from many sources that they were misled about advanced ticket sales - The Big Stooshie Team had no involvement in this fabrication.
All the contractors that I spoke to personally were informed that advance tickets sales had been steady but below our expectations. I had said that we were confident that we would receive a large number of walk-ins on the day - we are all gutted that there was less than 100 tickets purchased at the gate, which lead to the financial failure of the event.
Of course in the early stages of the campaign there were comments like "buy your tickets now as we expect the event will sell-out". However as we progressed and this was clearly not the case I informed my team to carefully manage peoples expectations to avoid misleading them.
It is unfortunate for the traders that other parties were not so honest and transparent but The Big Stooshie can take no responsibility for the action or behavior of others.
STATEMENT REGARDING BIG STOOSHIE PRODUCTIONS LTD.
I am writing to you today in my role as Managing Director for Big Stooshie Productions Limited (Company Number. 398540- registered in April 2011), organisers of The Big Stooshie, Scotland’s Charity Music Festival, held at Howe Country Centre on 4-6th May this year.
For the past month my team have been trying to formulate a plan in the hope that the company could remain solvent, pay our creditors and move forward towards profitable Big Stooshie events in future. However after initial investigations, and principally due to high levels of debt after the event in May, putting such a plan in place for Big Stooshie Productions Ltd would appear to be untenable within the time scale required.
After both financial and legal consultation I have been advised that it is my duty as Company Director to write to our creditors explaining the situation and to start procedures for closing the business due to insolvency.
It is with huge personal regret that I acknowledge that some businesses and individuals have not, and will not, be paid in full for their services at the Big Stooshie Festival. While we have received incredible and selfless demonstrations of support from some of our creditors, of course there are many who feel deeply dissatisfied with the situation. I completely understand these grievances and at this point can only comment that any commitments were made in good faith and I believed that funds would be available to pay everyone after the event.
As Managing Director I accept full and complete responsibility for the financial failure of the event which I thought would be a huge success right until the last day of the show. However I believe that I was honest and upfront with everyone involved with the project from day 1. I explained that the event did not have any substantial financial backing and all costs would be funded exclusively by ticket sales revenue. This statement is not meant to belittle the legitimate grievances of those who are out of pocket, simply a statement of fact.
To fund the project, the vast majority of the costs were paid by myself personally with none of the money invested repaid to me. This personal investment means that I am by far the largest creditor to Big Stooshie Productions Ltd by way of my directors loan. Additionally I “donated” all the profits made from the bar, to pay the costs across the 3 days. This was supposed to be "ring fenced" from the outset as a small personal income, for 18 months of unpaid work.
The impression given in the press and media is that most of the contractors where not paid, this is simply not true. The majority of the overall costs were settled before the event through personal investment and advance ticket sales. All invoices submitted on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th May where paid in full. It is true however that there were insufficient funds after Sunday to pay the majority of the invoices due on the day or invoices due for payment after the event.
It is undeniable that Big Stooshie is one of the greatest disappointments of my life and has left me and my family with serious financial worries. However I would like to end by focusing on a positive note. The Big Stooshie was not a commercial event but was organised by a small group of volunteers who wanted to start something "special" in Scotland which would have a significant and measurable effect on people’s lives, by raising large sums of money for charity. The organisers and management team were all volunteers and nobody involved received any financial reward since The Big Stooshie’s inception. I have great pride in what we accomplished, and I have so much respect and admiration for everyone who worked tirelessly, as volunteers or contractors to put on a show which many hailed as “the best event EVER!”.
It is with sad realisation that all this effort and dedication would have been hailed as a massive success if the turnout was just a bit better. My personal conclusion is that it is a sign of the difficult financial times we live in.... Great idea but bad timing.
Yours faithfully
James Russell
Managing Director
