So during the silent period between tracks, I thought it would be worth going over a few local artists in the rap game and even some of my personal influences over time.
For this first post though, I'm gonna mention someone who I've met personaly but who has also earned their respect in the game.
Before I heard his music or even his flow, I heard of him through a mutual friend.
And I just thought it was cool to know of someone local doing their own thing.
But after hearing some of his early rap battles on "Dont Flop". I started to realise there was a scene for it all.
And "Evil", was one of my go to battlers.
I used to think it was mad hearing how long his rhyme scheme would go on for, before finishing off with a clever or funny punchline.
Eventually I found work through in Broxburn and ended up consistently bumping into the man himself on the bus.
Thinking that life was starting to align myself and rap together, I told Lil Evil about my rap aspirations.
Evil was the first person who knew about me making music outwith close friends. And he told me to go for it.
Not long after though, I found work in a different place and lost touch with him over time.
However, In recent years I've watched his success from the outside yet again.
In 2017, Evil went on to become the Jump Off Champion (Even after puking twice during his round) And his last opponent seemingly walked off stage before his own round even came.
In the same year, Lil Evil would win at the BET Music Awards.
I then went to see Hopsin In Glasgow at the Garage in 2018. And it just so happened that Lil Evil was the supporting artist.
More recently, Evil released his first album "Blood Money & Su***de Notes" under his new label .
If he keeps going the way he has been, then the only way is up. And I'm somewhat buzzing to have seen things grow from when I first met him to now.
So here's to you Evil.
Nothing but respect from this end.
All the best of luck to your future 🤙🏻
