These events are just for you Mama, to come along, be yourself and connect with other Mums 💕

Our next meet up is beautiful picnic in the park next Tuesday 11th June with grazing boxes just for you by and we will also have the lovely with us to give a helping hand with the littles so you can enjoy your brunch.

TMC South Lanarkshire’s first picnic club will be on the 11th June at Calderglen Park in

You will have an individual graze box with sandwiches, scone cream and jam and some fruit and sweet treats along with soft drinks 🥤

Come and enjoy the sunshine, meet new like minded Mum friends and enjoy the day with us 👶🏼

We will also have a babysitter on hand to help with the littles as well as who will be there to capture the day and snap those little candid pictures we often miss as Mums.

Today the news has been talking about birth trauma and I know it’s a very real thing for many women. I feel like I had a bit of trauma from my third birth (nothing to do with the midwives, but more to do with the situation of giving birth during a local lockdown after a very difficult pregnancy)

While we are so lucky with the amazing care we have here with the NHS, giving birth is one of the most vulnerable times in our lives, especially when we are going through it for the first time and don’t fully know what to expect or when to speak up.

My advice for any pregnant Mum reading this is don’t be afraid to speak up if you feel you need to be heard or are not being taken seriously. We know our bodies best!

I had great midwives each time I gave birth but I would say looking back that with my first experience, they didn’t take me seriously and gave me paracetamol as they said I didn’t look in enough pain.
When they examined me I was 10cm, and it all was a bit of a blur from then on in.

With my second, he was born in 20mins (luckily I was in hospital at the time) so all of a sudden the emergency button was pressed and the room filled with people, the midwife didn’t have time to put both her gloves on and my notes never made it into the room. I can’t even remember my midwives for that one as it all happened so fast!

My third was distressing for other reasons, it was during a period of lockdown and partners were restricted from entering the room until you were in a delivery site. By this time they had realised I had precipitous labours (fast labours) and induced me to try and control it a bit more. My husband made it in luckily after watching me bounce on the ball through the window from the car… having to labour on my own but know he was right outside was like torture.

Id do it all a million times over for the 3 little bundles we have now ❤️ even though looking back, things didn’t always go the way I imagined in my head (isn’t that always the story!?) I came across some wonderful women during these three labours and I’ll never forget the midwife during my last birth, she was a sea of calm and was so kind and helpful, it made the world of difference 🫶🏻

I feel this, in the next 6 weeks we have 11 kids birthday parties 🥳 I do love to chat to the Mums but always fear what may be lurking in the ball put that my child might come home with!

Nicola is a mum of two, teacher, and owner of Grace & Lily bakery. She will also be at our brunch in February too ❤️

Message from Nicola:
‘Ever since I was little I loved baking with my Nanny and thanks to her this love of baking has stuck with me.

Over the years I always baked for family and friends, and whilst on Maternity leave with my second daughter I decided to go for it and start my own small business doing something I love.

I started Grace & Lily in late 2021, and have learned so much since then. I still love all the challenges customers come to me with, and have developed lots of new skills thanks to them!

When I’m not working away at Grace & Lily, you’ll find me teaching. I have been a teacher for over 10 years, and after maternity leave moved to part time as an ASN teacher - my other passion.

I now have a great balance of running my small business and teaching, and feel very grateful that I have the opportunity & support to do both things I love’

Where are my pregnant Mamas at?

I really wanted to love my pregnancy, but I had HG which got progressively worse with each pregnancy and by the time I had my third I was on my knees emotionally and physically.

It was miserable. I wanted to love and appreciate every moment but I couldn’t. I was SO sick of people thinking it was bad morning sickness and thinking a ginger biscuit would cure it.

This illness gets very little support - I felt lonely, deflated and my mental health took a nose dive.

Just posting here because not every pregnancy is fun! And I know I felt less alone when I read it was OK not to love being pregnant.

I always loved my babies and was so grateful for a body that was able to carry three beautiful babies to term (especially after a loss in between)

But I did not enjoy pregnancy and that’s OK!

I love that some people love it 🥰 I desperately wanted to be that person but unfortunately for me I was not.
