On a recent call with one of our destination wedding clients, we were talking about locations and logistics for their big day and Iceland came up.
THE LAND OF FIRE & ICE.
I can literally talk about this trip for hours which is crazy because I realized I've only shared a fraction of the images we took while there. Not that the photos do it justice anyway. It's simply too magical to put into words or frames.
Admittedly, I had a lot of plans squeezed into 8 days. Knowing that there would be some things that would need to be removed from the itinerary. Weather and time permitting. Thus, why going back is absolutely necessary and already in planning.😉
For the time being, I'll satisfy my wanderlust by sending a batch of images to the printers and share some behind the scenes taken by my hubby, the more adventurous and thrill seeking out of the two of us.

Hey Friends! Meet Bradley - a Houma Christian 2023 Graduate

Bradley plays multiple sports and excels in all of them. He LOVES taking care of animals, fishing, and spending time creating memories with his friends, girlfriend, and family. We're excited to be a part of Bradley's senior year and can't wait to see what he does next.

Hello and Happy Monday,

We've had a few requests for this so I feel like it's a good opportunity to educate on this topic.
🚫WE DO NOT USE DUCKS & BUNNIES IN OUR SPRING SESSIONS.🚫

There's lots of blog posts about the risks of using live animals as "props" in regards to ones that are not personal pets and are not used to being handled on a daily basis. A simple Google search will give you a long list of blogs. I'll summarize it as best as possible.

1. These animals are small and often times BABIES. Their little bones and bodies are not fully developed yet. They can easily be crushed by children who aren't old enough to understand how to handle them. This is often the case with mini sessions or fast paced environment.
2. Yes, baby animals are all cute and cuddly but the child themselves can be bitten or scratched by the animal. There's lots of cases where children have been seriously injured.
3. The majority of the time, these animals that were purchased just for the purpose of the photoshoot end up at the animal shelter.

Taking photos with your own pet, of course, is quite different. Knowing the habits of the animal, them being comfortable with you, etc. The above is just a short summary, but it's important to be conscious of ways that nature could be misused.

When helping plan elopements or destination weddings the question often comes up "Couldn't we just have our reception at our (insert short-term rental)? It's only X number of people". The answer to this varies so we encourage you to proceed with caution.
Sometimes you can get written permission from the owner/host to have a small gathering. Again, this depends on the type of short term rental. Part of our elopement and destination planning is to assist with finding a rental that can accommodate you.

Tell me something that every Hallmark Channel movie includes. I'll start.
A guy comes back to his small hometown for Christmas after moving away to the big city. Runs into his old high school flame at the local cafe. They spend some time catching up. Then hang out for what...2 weeks. Then he realizes he misses his town and proposes to the girl on Christmas Eve. Of course she says yes!
First of all, I don't care if all the story lines are super similar! I'm still going to watch it and pretend like I don't know how it will end. So here's to love and magic (aka photoshop) and snow miraculously falling at the perfect time!!!

Adventurers!

I want to share a few…well, maybe more than a few…reasons why Iceland is our new favorite destination and we’re already planning our next visit to this magical place.

It’s THE dreamiest place to elope and just a great trip for travelers in general. So here’s some fun facts and reasons to add it to your bucketlist if you haven’t already. In no particular order:

GETTING AROUND –
With the proper planning, you can see all areas (but not everything) of the country within 2 weeks via camper/campervan. If you need roomier accommodations, you can find cottages on Bungaloo or Airbnb. The easiest car rental experience we’ve ever had was on this trip. Shoutout to Blue Car Rental. Be sure to get Wifi in your car.

AURORA -
Iceland is one of the best places in the world to view the northern lights. Peak season is Sept-March. There’s even an app that gives a pretty accurate forecast. While I’m sure the guides provide a good service, booking a tour is not necessary for this. Just go outside on a clear night when the chances are high.

WATERFALLS –
Travel outside of the city and they’re everywhere. However, if there’s no parking lot or if it doesn’t have a name on Google then it’s likely on private property.

NO MOSQUITOS –
You’re probably saying yeah right but it’s true.

PAYING - Once a goal to be a cashless country, credit cards are the accepted method of payment at the vast majority of merchants. You can do currency exchange at the airport but you won't really need much.

SAFETY- Iceland is a peaceful country. One of the safest in fact. A population of about 375k people. AND the incarceration rate is about 40 per 100k.

TOURS –
Some things require a tour reserveration and trust me, even if it didn’t, I wouldn’t be doing it without a guide anyway. Guided adventures depending on season, availability and ever changing landscape: Glacier hikes, silfra snorkel, ice caves, volcano heli tours and more. 10/10 recommend Arctic Adventures

LAGOONS – There are many throughout the island. Some are natural geothermal lagoon/pools and some are manmade. Do your homework on the public ones and the paid ones as some require a reservation and there's certain rules to follow. But so fun. We loved Blue Lagoon Iceland & Sky Lagoon Iceland

WHAT TO WEAR –
Comfortable shoes! Hiking boots, waterproof a must if you are planning for adventure.
Bring clothes for all seasons: Swimsuit for the relaxing lagoons and spas. Warm clothing because even in the summer temps can drop pretty low. Waterproof outerlayers because the weather is unpredictable and you’ll need those at the waterfalls. Speaking of unpredictable weather, be aware of the daily forecast and observe any warnings about wind or hazardous conditions.

Last But certainly not least....

FOOD – I could write a short story about the food alone. I’ll admit, coming from South Louisiana, where everything is seasoned to perfection, some might say spicy, we were a bit worried about bland food. That definitely wasn’t the case. We enjoyed farm to table beef, lamb, eggs (literally seen where the food was coming from), fresh veggies, fruits, cod, just to name a few. And plenty of ice cream.
