The Mandap is the centerpiece of a hindu wedding. Symbolizing the joining of two families, the mandap becomes sacred ground to perform the wedding ceremony.

Couples have a choice to opt for a simplistic mandap depending on the background view, or a grandiose mandap that will be the center of the decor.

What is the cost of an Indian wedding abroad? Will couples save money by opting for a destination wedding? This is the question that starts all my interactions with couples planning their indian wedding abroad.

The truth is, there is no ceiling to costs, and it will all depend on what the couples want and what they are willing to compromise on. There are however 4 main factors that can influence the overall price:
1. Number of guests
2. Number of events
3. Food and alcohol
4. Venue selection

All these factors are described in our new blog post, link in bio!

Thinking about an indian destination wedding in Portugal? Here are 3 reasons you should really consider it:

1. Unique Experience: You wedding will definitely break the patterns of events tht are happening in your hometown. From breathtaking venues to an exquisite culinary experience, your wedding won’t

2. Quality time: Destination weddings give us an extended celebration period. It's not just about the big day; it's about spending several days or even a week bonding with our loved ones and creating cherished memories.

3. Intimate Celebration: Traditional indian weddings often have 300-500 guests. One might even wonder why paying for people that I don’t know. With a destination wedding, you get to splurge on the people you actually want there.

Should you do a dessert table? Isn’t the wedding cake enough?
Dessert tables are one of the most underrated perks of a wedding. Guests, specially in destination weddings, will usually have a sweet tooth after the wedding meal. Keeping the deserts until midnight or more allows people to take breaks during entertainment and dancing to relive the culinary experience of the dessert

Food is the most important element of your wedding, even more than your venue. You and your guests will remember how each bite made them feel and how they enjoyed your wedding meal. When looking at venues, make sure that they work with reputable caterers and if possible, as to test the menu. In the case of destination weddings, trust your wedding planner. They have already vetted the caterers and venue and should not propose you something that is not of high quality.

Should you do round tables or long rectangular tables?
Long tables are currently trending and they have their pros and cons.

With longer tables you might not need a seating chart as guests will all be seating together. Although if you have a larger guest count and you end up with 3-4 long tables you might need to do some rough assignments. Long tables also gives the feel of a united guest count where everyone sits at the same table.

Round tables are more intimate and fluid and allows you to interact with your guests in small doses. Within round tables, your guests can have conversations without having to raise their voice as conversations are often lost in long tables.

It is also important to check with your venues if they can support long tables early on to not have to incur extra costs.

Ultimately the decision is yours, both will add to the aesthetics of the wedding!

Should you have wedding favours?

In most weddings, you want to leave your guest with a little something so that they can be reminded of your big day. Do we keep the same etiquette in destination weddings?

The answer is: it depends. Sometimes couples want to give something to their guests to be reminded of the destination where the wedding was held. In the case of Portugal, there are endless possibilities: keychains, azulejos, candles with beach scents.

A gift thats often underrated is: food. Giving a box of mithai or sweets can be a good way to end a celebration, while preserving the authenticity of the destination. You don’t have to go for the traditional ladoos: some couples decide to put together a box with mini pasteis de nata or bolo de berlim.

Ultimately your wedding favours will reflect the essence of your wedding, and if you feel like it, you can also skip them! Because you will already be in a gorgeous location; the favour will be considered optional, and a great nice to have!

What should you expect during a destination wedding?
1. No stress. It’s like planning a big vacation, specially with the help of a planner! You can sit back and relax and create life long memories in a city where you will forever remember your sacred rituals.
2. Culture fusion: You will celebrate your own culture but will also incorporate bits and pieces of your destination throughout your wedding.

3. It won’t be just about the wedding: your guests and you will explore the city and its surroundings before and after the wedding celebrations. You will not get another chance to have all the people you love close to you while you are vacationing!

Tips from a wedding planner to enjoy your day:

1. Delegate as much as you can: your day will pass by so fast, you want to be able to enjoy every moment of it. Prepare a list of items ahead of time that you can delegate to relatives or friends. If you are a destination bride, rely on your planner as your guests and family are here to enjoy!

2. Breathe: Brides are very often overwhelmed and forget to breathe. Before walking down the aisle and when reaching the end of the aisle, do take a big breathe and exhale through your mouth. This will allow you to regulate your nervous system and alleviate the tensions in your body so that you are more present.

3. Take a moment only for you and your husband to enjoy. Even if it is only 5 mins, do take the time to quietly celebrate with your husband. You have come a long way and people are here to celebrate you, but ultimately it’s about you and your love story with your significant other.

Why should you hire a destination wedding planner? Isn’t the goal to save money?

Here are 3 reasons why it’s important to have a wedding planning when planning a destination wedding:
1. You need someone local who knows the ins and outs of your destination. Imagine trying to plan a wedding in a foreign country where English isn’t the first language and where culture is totally different! Your wedding planner can help you navigate these nuances while providing you with an optimal planning experience!

2. You need someone to take away the pain of looking for vendors so that in the end you can make the best decision possible. If you work full-time, you might have only a few hours in the week allocated to planning. Do you want to spend this time researching vendors amongst thousands of them, or do you want to have the list of vendors and prices readily available so you can decide?

3. You want to enjoy your big day! Weddings can be stressful if you are the one with the master plan in mind. Imagine having someone come to you on your big day and ask where the flowers go, at what time does the baraat start or where the photographer should setup. You want someone to take that stress away from you so you can focus on taking it all in and really being in the moment!
