Had an absolutely fantastic day yesterday meeting and visiting with some fellow local flower growers! The great conversation and supportive comraderie were just what my soul needed as this endless winter comes to an end.

Tomorrow is the equinox and officially marks the beginning of spring! As always, a quick peek outside confirms we are firmly in winter conditions for a while longer, and fresh flowers are still months away. Here's your chance to bring some nature and colour into your home with dried flowers!

Happy Winter Solstice ✨️ Practiced my solstice tradition of making a Christmas tree for the outdoor critters a day early this year. I wanted to get some of these caloric ornaments out to warm up some tummies during this bitter cold spell.

Nothing too fancy with these. It's just a bird seed mix, a tiny bit of oatmeal, heated bacon grease, and a bit of peanut butter, all mixed together and thrown in a muffin tray. Poke a piece of a toothpick or something in the middle, all the way down to the bottom, and throw them outside to cool. Remove the toothpick, string with some twine and then place on a sunny tree so they can warm in the sun while eating.
I also put a few very low down so animals like rabbits can reach.

🎄 Glass globes with an assortment of dried boranicals inside (all grown by me) are an elegant way to add some natural elements to your tree

🎄 Properly stored in a dry and breathable location, these should last indefinitely

My family and I are finally recovering from colds that have hit us hard, and I've realized the Pense Craft and Trade Show is less than two weeks away!

🎄 Mini wreath Christmas tree ornaments will be one thing you can find again this year!

🎄 I love the natural touch they add to the tree, and they work wonderfully adorning your gifts for under the tree too.

As some of you know, I had the honour of doing the bouquets, boutonierres, corsages, and arch for my sisters wedding this past summer. It was nervewracking, and came with a lot of imposter feelings, but ultimately it was a thrill to try and create something that matched her vision for their special day.
For her bridal shower however, I wanted to make her a couple special things, that she wasn't expecting. One of those items was this dried floral and wire hair pin. I was really happy with the outcome and now need to learn how to do my hair so I can wear something like it 😄.
What do you think? Should I add some dried floral wearables to my market lineup?

Once again, I will be at the Pense Craft and Trade Show this year! The only in person event this introvert does all year 😅. On November 19th and 20th, come for a quick 20 min drive outside of Regina to the Pense town hall. They have another stellar line up of vendors to help you find some handmade goodness, and maybe check some things off your Christmas shopping list.

Trialling out some mini decorative broomsticks!
I personally love having my dried flowers and botanicals hanging all over my home (speak to my husband for a second opinion 😆) and I feel like this could be a lovely option for others as well. Would love to hear about your thoughts on mini broomsticks! 👇

Heavy topic of flowers and pesticides. Long, but important one.
As someone growing flowers I am *surrounded* in information on flowers and the floristry industry. Just based on the people I follow and the articles I read. It wasn't until I had a discussion with someone the other day, that I was reminded that topics I often think of as "mainstream", are only that way because of the surroundings I've created for myself. Let me step back and explain.
This person was explaining how their daughter is planning on growing flowers this summer to make her own bridal bouquet. Amazing right?! 👏 She then expressed how she was concerned there might be bugs in the bouquets and on the tables. Totally fair concern! So after giving a couple suggestions on how to avoid that, I said "But even then I'd probably prefer the bugs to the pesticides". To this she was a bit puzzled, flowers would have pesticides on them?
Yes. If you are buying imported flowers there is a very good chance they have been treated with pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or a combo of all three. And because flowers are not considered a consumable, the levels allowed could be much higher than what we see with food. Of course, domestically/locally grown flowers may be treated with these as well, but at least you have someone to directly go to talk to and ask.

What does this mean? Speak to your local grower or florist and find out how/if the flowers have been treated. If you don't know the flowers history, maybe don't have a flower arranging party where you are also eating/drinking. And please, please, please don't decorate your cake with them!
I am by no means trying to say don't buy imported flowers, or guilt anyone for buying them! Just want to make sure you are safe if doing so 😊💕

I can still recall my last summer...🎵

Them 💕 I was on maternity leave last summer, and spending it with my family was wonderful. This is where I want to be. This is my season in life.

Looking ahead to this summer I want to capture as many memories as I can with them again. Being back at my day job this year will already take some of that away, so I've made the decision to not sell fresh flowers this summer, and spend my remaining time with my family 😊 (there may be an odd time where I have a few odds and sods to offer). I still have A TON of gorgeous flowers I will be growing, but I am focusing on mostly drying them so come fall there will be lots of locally grown beauty to get us through the winter 😉🥰

Seed starting mix vs. Potting soil
•
• Gardening and seed starting doesn't have to be overwhelming. Seed, soil, water and sun! 🌱 With those ingredients you will likely have some lovely little seedlings. But if you're feeling overwhelmed in the soil aisle wondering what to buy, here is a bit of extra info for you!
•
• Seed starting mix is a light, fine, soiless mixture which allows seeds to easily push through to create roots and reach for the light. It is also usually sterilized to ensure no w**d seeds, and reduce risk of disease. Seeds carry all the nutrients they require for a short while, so as such, the mix generally does not have fertilizer/nutrients added. This means that seedlings will likely have to be moved on to potting mix so they have enough food to thrive until transplanting outside.
•
• Potting soil is a more coarse mix (often having some small pieces of wood or such), is unsterilized, but has nutrients that will sustain a plant for a few weeks, contains some soil, and is also much more affordable.
•
• I personally use potting mix right from the start and have had success. And I save some money by skipping the seed starting mix 😉 Whichever you choose, I am sure you will do wonderful! 😊

I am so smitten with drieds 💕
Seedling season is in full swing so I am making extra room by using up some dried botanicals and creating more dried pieces. With quite a ways to go until we can have fresh, local flowers in our homes, these are a great option to bring some nature and colour inside.

🌱 All components grown and dried by me, without the use of herbicides or pesticides. You can feel safe having them in your home (and --eventually-- tossing them in your compost).

Happy Spring Equinox! While we may be in one of our many 'false springs' 😅, the weather certainly has me feeling all the potential!

🌳 Go for a walk outside and look, listen, and smell for signs of spring!

Halfway between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox and mother nature has reminded us with a brutal blizzard that we are still very firmly planted in winter 😆 Highway is still closed for us and it sounds like quite a few people spent the night in their vehicles. Happy Winter Solstice! ✨ Wishing you some rest on this longest night of the year.
🌙 Later today I will be continuing our tradition of decorating an outdoor tree with yummy homemade treats for the outdoor creatures who share our yard. Bird seed and bacon grease ornaments, and some corn niblets will hopefully help fill their bellies and keep them warm on these long cold nights.

These lovelies sold out quick at the craft show so if you didn't get a chance then, these ones are now available! There may be one or two more small batches released before Christmas, but not many!
Flowers were grown and pressed by me, then my mum gets creative and does the delicate stained glasswork seen above. So while I'd love to take credit for them, it is her skill, not mine 🥰
The ornaments measure ~ 1" x 3" so they are a perfect delicate addition to your Christmas tree.
Some of the flowers included in this realease are forget me nots, yarrow leaf, sage, and a few more beauties. Shoot me a message if you would like to claim one! 😊

Gift giving 🎁
I've seen a few posts going around to this effect, and it stirs enough in me that I want to share about it too. Gift giving can be such a fun opportunity to show appreciation for our loved ones, but I think the magic of certain types of gifts can often be overlooked.

• Do you bake a mean cookie? Knit a fantastic headband? Paint a passionate picture? Whatever you love to do, THAT is an amazing gift 💕
• Do you think someone might enjoy reading a book that you just finished? That is super thoughtful of you! Wrap that baby up and pass it on!
• Collected seeds from your garden? Or maybe an IOU to divide a plant you enjoy come spring? You are speaking my language, and I'd love to have a piece of you in my garden!
• Did you see a quality teapot at value village? Yup, yup, yup - Love secondhand
• Did you receive a gift that didn't speak to you, but made you think of someone else? Re-gifting for the win 🎉
• A handmade item your neighbour sells? Heck yes!
• Do you want to skip gifts all together and just make a plan to get together for a visit! Sign me up!
So while gifts CAN be new and come with a digital barcode, they don't HAVE to. These are all valid, and absolutely wonderful gifts!!
Just my opinion that absolutely no one asked for 😆😆

This past weekend was overwhelming... in the absolute best way possible. My heart is beyond bursting. If you were at the craft show and at any point saw my eyes brimming with water, please know it was because I was blown away by the love and support I experienced. I know I spammed you daily for near 2 weeks about this event 😅 but I still didn't expect to see all of the familiar faces walk through the door 💕 I cannot thank you enough for the likes, comments, shares, those who made the drive out to the craft show, the organizers and other vendors who offered helping hands or a lovely visit in between customers, family offering childcare, new and old friends with their smiles and words of encouragement, and of course those who spent their hard earned money to support me in this venture. I cannot get over how lucky I am. Thank YOU!!! Please know whatever part you played in this, big or small, you brought me an incredible amount of joy and I am grateful ❤ Thank you

• These handmade gift tags are made from 100% recycled paper (lots of junk mail, and used paper which was otherwise headed for the recycling!). The tags are embedded with flower petals and leaves collected from my garden. They do not have the holes punched in them yet, so when you get home to wrap your treasures you will be able to customize exactly how you want them to lay. Completely compostable after their use, they are a fantastic way to add a natural touch to a gift.
