Alex Corrêa was born in august 17th, 1981. As the son of a classical pianist, was at the age of five his first contact with the piano, but was at thirteen when he decided to follow the music path.

At seventeen, Alex began his undergraduate studies at Universidade Estadual de Londrina (south of Brazil), which brought him into significant contact with many sound environments, anthropological and philosophical studies, and skills aimed at teaching music. While he was in college, he also worked as a sideman in several pop and jazz bands, playing festivals throughout Brazil.

By the age of 25, Alex moved to São Paulo in Brazil and focused on studying the development of a contemporary language in the context of instrumental music, and as a result he recorded his first album in 2010, entitled “Sintoma” in partnership with Adauto Dias, Nenê and Arismardo Espírito Santo. After that, he got in touch and playing with other great and known musicians in Brazil like Thiago Espírito Santo, Michel Leme, Alex Buck, Bruno Migotto, Sidiel Vieira, Miguel Assis, Rubem Farias, Rodrigo Digão, Carlos Ezequiel, Bruno Tessele, and many others.

Besides being a performer he also worked as a teacher compounding the faculty of the Conservatory Souza Lima in São Paulo, Brazil.

The search for new sonority and textures also resulted in the desire to do a master's degree so as to continue and share all these discoveries. Thus, in 2013, Alex was invited to attend a jazz master program in The Netherlands where one year later, he was awarded with the VNO-NCW NOORD TALENT AWARD 2014. As a result of the prize, he was invited to write and perform his original called “SoulBrothers” with the Noord Nederland Orkest.

Alex also has been sharing the stage with other great musicians as Alex Sipiagin, Boris Kozlov, Donald Edwards, Gene Jackson, Paul Bollenbeck, Kestutis Vaiginis, Christophe Schweizer, Raul de Souza, and many others.

Being in touch with musicians from different cultures has always been the focus of his attention and personal accomplishment. In 2014 he went to New York in order to record and release his new album called Gratitude in partnership with Alex Sipiagin, Boris Kozlov and Donald Edwards.

Now he is presently living in Europe performing and composing with artists and groups around the world, releasing new projects as a band leader (Alex Corrêa Big Band, Symphony Orchestra, trio, quartet, quintet and sextet) and as a sideman (Raul de Souza group and Alex Sipiagin group).

SPECIAL MUSIC LESSONS!
Course Description: LAB BAND:
The goal of this course consists on introducing, developing and improving the practice of the jazz repertoire in its several possibilities of ensembles (duo, trio, quartet, quintet, sextet, big bands, etc), for students who are intented to achieve a higher level of their performances as a group.
It also aims to provide a deep understanding and practicing on sideman and frontman roles, as well as the creation and structuring of arrangements and compositions.

The course takes place in two stages:
 FIRST PART: The students experience the role of being a "sideman", performing the repertoire and arrangements proposed by the teacher, with the objective of learning and playing some basic and sophisticated solutions of varied textures of instrumentation and harmony. In addition, guided listening sessions and grounding for improvisation will be addressed throughout the process.

 SECOND PART: The students come to experience the role of being a frontman and, supervisioned by the teacher, are encouraged to bring and tryout their own arrangements / originals with the aim of knowing both an organizational and artistic practice of the role of the band leader. All students must attend both phases of the course.

The formation and selection of groups can occur randomly or pre-combined. This means that if there are groups (trios, quartets, quintets, etc.) already formed that want to improve their own performance, the schedules will be combined to specifically serve this group(s). On the other hand, other groups might be formed randomly from the instrumentation options of the class members.
Lab Band and Harmony Integrated

Course Description: HARMONY:
Parallel to the Lab Band, all students must attend the harmony course as a complementary study, in order to achieve a great foundation of the contents described below. The intention is to provide the development and improvement of the inner ear as
well as to enhance the creativity of composition and improvisation.
The bibliographic reference of such content originates from a particular harmonic vision, mixing the theories proposed by The Theory of Harmony by Arnold Schoenberg and Jazz Piano Book by Mark Levine, and has as a didactic tool the practice of harmonic
analysis and composition exercises.

Workload: 3h30 per meeting (Harmony = 2hours + Labband = 1h30)
Price per student: 250 Fr.
In case some students preffer to do just one of the courses (harmony or
labband) the price per course is 150 fr per student.
