Some people hate surprises, personally I love them so I was even more excited to marry this beautiful couple on Saturday.

They surprised family and friends by announcing that they were going to marry and the reaction was absolutely priceless.

I was wondering where the tradition of saying to the groom "you may kiss your bride" originated..... well apparently it originated Roman times when it was assumed that the bride and groom had not kissed before the ceremony (personally I don't buy this), and then there is another school of thought that Priests would kiss the groom, to bless the marriage within the church, and then the groom would pass on that kiss to seal the contract of marriage.

I just love these old traditions, but 1 thing I know as celebrant is it's always a great way to seal the commitment to each other ###

Today has been a very special Australia Day for me and my little family as we became Australia citizens. It's the final piece of the jigsaw 9 years after arriving here from the UK. WOW what a crazy weekend, my first wedding, citizenship, and now looking forward to my next wedding in 2 weeks time! Hope everyone had a fab day x
