i hate thinking or even admitting i might be a little dependent on the internet...
if i didn't have the radio project, distant connections and other things that need online attention, it wouldn't be a big deal.. but never fails that when i'm offline for any amount of time is when things that require my attention happen to pop up...
i think i was only offline about 4 days, maybe, but i've been chomping to get access all this time so i can get some extremely crucial, time-sensitive tasks done.

hello.... is anyone there? there.. there.. there... there...

anyways, it's late, and i've had a heckuva lot of things happen over the past week or two, so i think i'll crash and catch up on everything tomorrow...

Good evening. I'm DJ D-Phoenix. I'm originally from Olympia, Washington, currently residing in New Mexico.
Those that have known me since waaaaay back could probably tell you that one thing i'm known for is my indecisiveness. Good or bad, i've had the tendency to go back and forth, or side to side, when it comes to making decisions of any kind. some would say it's a bad trait, others would understand that's just part of me.
Either way, i am what i am what i am... and what i am is a DJ, whose half-assed DJ career started at the tail end of his senior year of high school in 1984 in an all-age nightclub in Olympia.
As of May 2024, i told myself i wouldn't be doing anymore LIVE appearances or gigs, just shortly after the performance at T Or C's Fiesta event. That still holds true; but music is a part of my fiber, and sharing music with people is part of my makeup.
With that being said, the plan is to restart periodic DJ sets and posting them online. Currently, i am at the threshold of a physical move, and it will probably be another few weeks to a month before i could even consider or have the time to pull off a decent set.
Once i'm situated in a new location, i will begin to put that all together.
tonight, i want to thank those of you have supported, promoted, and participated in my numerous events over the past 40 years. it's your support that has kept me inspired and motivated to continue playing in the music industry.
to skew a classic line from a classic movie, i'll leave y'all with this:

The Groove Zone Collective (OlyWA-Rio Grande) and its resident DJ, DJ D-Phoenix, would like to take a moment to acknowledge and personally thank the members of the 2024 T Or C FIESTA board!
We were honored to be considered an honorary participant in this year's event.
Sitting in on some pre-event meetings was a memorable experience; the fact that we were included to be part of the event was a unique privilege.
We would also like to thank the handful of DJ crew that were on hand on the morning of the last day of the event. Thank you for your assistance!

a post-Fiesta update:
good morning from the desert. here's to a great day for everyone involved! so, life is returning to its normal pace around here this morning, after the town's 3-day Fiesta festival.lots of bands, vendors, activities, and events all happened over the weekend. now, the barricades and signs are being put away, and the pace here has slowed down again.our Groove Zone crew were on hand yesterday morning on the Fiesta's BOSW Main Stage. over the course of the LIVE 90-minute music set, DJ D-Phoenix played a mixed-genre set for those that were in the food court areas of the festival.we want to thank those who showed off their dancing skills yesterday, and say thanks for coming out!at this moment, there's a strong chance that this may have been the last public performance by the collective's resident DJ. the amount of time, energy, and preparation that goes into any LIVE performance or production sometimes far outweighs any expected results or outcome.
we enjoyed being part of this year's Fiesta festival, but we're really considering narrowing our active focus to online programming for the most part.
after some more discussions in the near future, we'll make some decisions and then announce what the future plans are.one of our newest additions to the Groove Zone collective came in late March with the inclusion of a new lighting/laser technician (Desert Array); unfortunately, within days after the Day-Glo Disco "1979" dance was held at I-5 ARTS, he contracted MRSA somehow, and has been fighting for his health ever since.our thoughts and prayers have been with both he and his wife, in hopes for a speedy and full recovery. as of this past Saturday, he still is struggling with the infection and the effects of the medications that are supposed to fight it off.there had been talks of the possibility of producing and hosting a 2-day music festival sometime this summer at Elephant Butte State Park in New Mexico, but any plans of that event have now been put on hold. only time will tell.as this new week begins, there are plenty of things to get caught up on, now that the festival is over.
