This song was used in “The American Dream” documentary but the reason for it, came from an experience I had with a Haitian woman. She lived in a tent because her home was destroyed in the earthquake. She lost her baby and when she told me that story, she hid her tears by putting her head on the ground. When she lifted her face back up, she told me of the love of God purer than any sermon I’ve ever heard. She sang Hallelujah with a guttural purity not from in this world.
I was shook. A decade later, I still am. It’s a moment in my life so holy, these words fall short. I can’t think of her without feeling my insides rattle. There are not enough songs to express who this woman is to me and what she represents.
