This newborn session has me feeling all the feels about the fact that my own first baby is 10 years old. 😭 Enjoy this little sweet babe in all his newness. 🥰
That One Day
That one day,
I first felt you move.
Summersaults.
A thrilling sensation.
Then,
ripples of legs
and arms
waved across my belly,
so strong
your papa could feel you.
That one day,
I first held you,
almost didn’t know what to do.
Then,
I did.
Sort of.
Days were spent,
near-numb to the outside world,
lines still blurred between
your body and mine.
My tiny guy.
That one day,
You no longer fit in your bassinet,
No longer
Be contained.
Then,
those ripples of legs,
and arms
summersaulted
about the world,
a whirlwind
of movement and sound
all about.
That one day,
you learned to ride a bike,
a sense of pride
having done it yourself,
without my help.
Then,
legs and arms
move you
on scooters and bikes on ramps
larger than you;
climbing trees,
swimming without a float
and all the other things
that Big kids do.
Then,
That one day,
on the trampoline when
I reset your elbow
dislocated by the jolt.
But it wasn't the first time
I learned to nurse you.
That one day,
Your feet grew as big as mine
And your head came to my nose,
And I wondered
When….
When would you no longer want to be close.
Then,
You turned to me,
Called me mama
Again,
And asked to sleep
Tucked next to me,
Lines still blurred between
Your person and mine.
