When TACO WARS Tuesday meets Edible Cocktails: Garden-to-Glass!

As readers of my book EDIBLE COCKTAILS know, just about anything used in cooking can be used in cocktails.

I just taught another Margarita Madness cocktail class and had leftover glass rimmer (salt, sugar, red Chile powder) which I used as seasoning for my chicken tacos today.

I think it’s the utter lack of gratitude to waste food so I love finding ways to use everything I buy… even leftover cocktail rimmer!

Plus, tying together a drink and dish with a common ingredient is an “insider tip” to creating perfect food-and-drink pairings.

I was so impressed when I visited Animal Humane New Mexico today. Any shelter is full of people who love animals and so their best to get them healthy, safe and placed in a home.

Also, the campus includes several buildings for admissions, adoptions, fostering, training and a vet clinic for the shelter animals and low income families.

The grounds are beautiful and has lots of original art. I LOVE this piece of two kitties playing. ❤️

Donate to your local shelter and give a kind word to the people working there. They deal with a lot of heart wrenching situations - they are doing the work of angels.

Not gonna lie… all the great things you e read about Horno are true. This tuna tartare on a crispy risotto cake is over of the best I’ve ever had. And the just-foraged mushrooms with pistachio nuts was just beyond amazing. I could have had 2 helpings all to myself!!
I’m very happy to see such success for David and Heather Sellers and their whole crew - and our city!

The Liquid Muse TACO WARS Takeover #3 was a memorably delicious experience in a heavenly setting. Chef Carolina and her team treated everyone to sumptuous tacos: Wild boar, shrimp and vegetarian along with a selection of stunning salsas, mole and aguas frescas.

And, thanks to our guests, we raised another $200 for the Santa Fe Animal Shelter

There was a magical moment in time when I lived between Paris & L.A. and partied in San Tropez. Thank you ma belle for this fun throwback memory… as you said sunny beaches, champagne drenched dance parties and fun with friends. My life has never been conventional - and I thank my lucky stars that I maximized my youth chasing dreams, taking risks and having a million stories to tell… 🎉

Summer soup: Agvolemono
I made this Greek dish recently, and it’s so nice for a light summer supper. I found several recipes online and did what I usually do… took tips from all and then added my own little adjustments to make it my own. I made this one with chicken as an optional ingredient so it works for vegetarians, too.

3 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
2 medium onions, thinly sliced
3 carrots, peeled and thinly sliced
2 celery stalks, thinly
6 cloves garlic, minced
6 - 8 cups vegetable broth
2 cups water
3 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves
3 tablespoons dried oregano
5 tablespoons dill, chopped (set 2 tbsp aside for garnish)
3 tablespoons lemon zest
1 tablespoon salt
black pepper (to taste)
1 cup white rice
3 cups pre-cooked shredded chicken breast
5 egg yolks
Juice of 4 lemons

Soften onions, carrots and celery in oil. Add garlic and herbs. Stir. Add lemon zest, stir again. Add brith and rice. Simmer 20 minutes. Add water as needed. Add chicken, stir to mix. Serve.
(Leave out chicken for vegetarians)

Forty lucky members of The Liquid Muse Cocktail & Culinary Club snagged tickets to the “Mexico meets France” Bastille Day themed Taco Wars Takeover at Casa Culinaria, in Santa Fe, this Sunday July 11.

Chef Carolina has some beautiful treats in store in the gorgeous hidden garden behind those Adobe walls…

This one is already sold out, of course… but due to its popularity, we are already talking about adding a second date… so I want to know…

Another incredible Taco Wars Takeover! Thank you Chef/Owner Jeffrey Kaplan and your wonderful Rowley’s Farmhouse Ales team for the taco-and-beer pairing for The Liquid Muse guests.

Parting is such sweet sorrow… I’ve had these sweet babies for about 2 months. From utterly helpless 10-day old bottle feeders who couldn’t even p**p without assistance to healthy, beautiful, playful, hilarious, ready-for-adoption kittens… it’s a journey I’m honored to take… even though my heart breaks a little to give them back to the shelter. Two of these lucky babies have found a great home - together!!! Three more are still hoping for a loving forever home. If you’re interested in a kitty (or two) please get in touch and I’ll give you their adoption numbers at Santa Fe Animal Shelter They’re awesomely perfect! 🙏😻
