FIGHT ONE'S OWN WAR
As a media team who work on promoting young artists' careers we should sometimes bring subjects that are educational and serious. One thing that we want to plant in the minds of young artists is learning to fight their own wars.
We the Africans lose sense of individually because of our culture that is based on socialism. I am not advocating for individualism, but knowing yourself as individual and defining your purpose in life is important. In psychology, they teach that life starts at cognitive level (how you think), then to behavior and promotes to personality. The family members and society comes later in the hierarchy.
If you are a musician, what kind of musician are you is matters before questioning the support of the members of the society. As an artist, you need to be either talented, hardworking, or strategic to attract the attention of fans. Love, respect and support should not be demanded from fans, it should be earned. Being desperate and eagerness to earn support of members of the society mislead artists to focus on doing what people want instead of building their careers.
As and artist, your responsibility is making good music and branding your career well, love, respect and support will come as fans' reaction to what have done. Why demanding support, who knows if what you have done so far does not deserve being supported?
