"Nā Mele O Maui is a heartwarming annual contest and is one of Hawaii's longest-running events which continues to perpetuate Hawaii's unique culture and heritage. Hundreds of Maui County students from kindergarten through 12th grade compete for prizes of cash and musical instruments." This year, the Nā Mele 'O Maui Song Competition's theme is, "Beloved places of Hawai'i." The competition will be
held on Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. The time of our preformance for this competition is not available at the moment. If you didn't know by now, our Contest song is "Koke'e," and our Choice song is "Mauna Kahalawai O Maui." Hopefully by now, your child is able to sing along side the CD we provided, created by our wonderful Music Teacher, Ms. Rosie, as well as have already memorized the words of BOTH songs, without using the paper. We understand the difficulty of learning two songs in the Hawaiian language, and we are proud of each and every single one of your children in their accomplishment to sing and memorize our songs. Therefore, now it is time to fix the pronounciation of the words in the song. Your child will come home with a paper of the words they have trouble with pronouncing and blending. Please practice with them. As for now, we are asking for your support in encouraging your child to sing infront of a mirror, to practice their smiling. Your child will be videotaped and we want them to look their best while singing. Also, we use a term, "Sing and sound like angels." It has worked for us these past few years in our experience in this competition. The softer and sweeter they sound, the more chances we have of them blending together. Field Trip forms as well as premission forms for the trip will be coming out soon. We are providing all services (Bus, Lunch, T-shirts, Accessories, etc.) at no cost to you. More updates are soon to come! Please check weekly, if not daily for our updates as we try to post them the day or week before. Mahalo for your time and participation and for everything that you do! Me ke aloha pumehana,
'Anakala Chaz and Ms.
