Our Story
This exciting songwriting showcase curated and hosted by Kelsey Michael aims to create a listening cabaret style room where an audience can enjoy high quality writing from Cornwall based artists with a unique voice. Fruit Tree songwriters nights nurture young talent and encourage experimentation, finding Cornish artists who take risks and write contemporary music for the here and now. Fruit Tree 2015/16 sold out every one of its talent fuelled songwriters showcases in Acorn Cabaret Bar. The following 2016/17 season moved upstairs to the main stage to accommodate more audience. Artists benefited from high production values which put their music into a quality evening
Songwriters and bands featured in 2015/16 included young duo Miss Jones, Comedic songwriter Mike Stocks, Graham Smith, Kelsey Michael, Hannah Johnson, Lucy Birbeck, Ella Turk-Richards, Angeline Morrison (solo), Theo Black, Greg Dyer, and Melange Tous.
The 2017 three concert seasons February performance cast the net wider bringing Hannah Bullock from Truro and Falmouth’s Brytevibes and a full length set opportunity for harmonica virtuoso Graham Smith with his new band ‘Open Fire Light’. In April the Acorn grand piano was the focus as a packed house gathered to celebrate four local piano songwriting acts: Danu Fox, Lucy Birbeck, Marc Hadley, Jowan and the Junkyard and Eleanor Mumford. In June Fruit Tree presented an evening as part of Golowan week featuring fruit Tree founder Kelsey Michael with her trio, a revisit from Greg Dyer and young performer May Robson.
As a result of Fruit Tree new collaborations have occured, Penzance, Truro and Falmouth music scenes have made new links, songwriters have increased their output and honed their ouvre and some absolutely amazing songs have been written and performed.
