Long term friendships are to be celebrated! I was delighted to connect Kent State School of Fashion with Dame Zandra Rhodes for her induction into their Hall of Fame. I walked for Zandra in the 80's and we've been able to share several projects since the days of her press shows. She's about to release her 4th book: Iconic. Extra fun was this museum excursion and dinner with this great quad of women involved in this article: designer Anna Sui .. (a previous inductee into said Hall of Fame), Angela Chan (the author) and Pauline St. Denis (photographer who snapped these shots). What a week we enjoyed!

During the interview in the car, we discussed the evolving landscape of the fashion industry and their aspirations for a lasting legacy, and we even touched on the int...

Mid October 2023 I received a text from a friends' daughter who was visiting Britain's Q***r Museum. It read: Look who I spotted at the Levi's exhibit at Q***r Britain!! They had a whole DIFFA section. Very fun to see this!

With a bit of online research, I learned that Levi Strauss & Co sponsored a pop up exhibit titled "Icons in Denim - A Q***r Perspective" at this museum. From Levi's archives, they highlighted some of their iconic denim jackets worn or created by q***r artists, rock legends, film stars and designers. I was honored to see they included pieces from DIFFA/Dallas's The Dallas Collection (now called House of DIFFA). Why? Because I was the Creative Director of that program for a total of about twenty+ years.

Levi Strauss & Co was our denim provider for about a decade of this program. They were amazing partners who functioned from the heart. Did you know they were the first Fortune 500 Company to offer full medical benefits to the unmarried partners of their employees? That was 1992 when same s*x marriage was not legal. They were leaders in thoughtful change and in the simple concept that human rights should apply to us all, not just those who think, worship and look like you. I applaud them and always think of those years of partnership with them with pride.

The latter part of my working with DIFFA, I invited my tech director, Brian Brothers of Planet Productions, to step up as Co-Creative Director. Together, along with an army of friends, volunteers and vendors, we had grown the program into a massive production. My modeling and production schedule had become too demanding and I needed a true partner to share the lead. Brian and I had both been in the trenches with this from it's inception and his work, vision and relationships brought to the table were a huge part of the WOW that we created together over the years. Brian is an excellent Creative Director, with expertise in the design of exciting videos/creative audio/set and staging.

I shared this with my friends and designers Stephen Dunn and Beau Black because their DIFFA jacket was on display in this exhibit. Wanted to also share with some of you whose names were also visible in this shot from the exhibit or who were backstage helping to make the magic:

Bill Edwards Jon MorehouseWendy KrispinJoe G. Pacetti@JayOppenheimer Barbara Buzzell and a few more friends who I know were hugely in these same trenches over the early years: Tony Fielding Johnny Johnson MathewsJohn Ahrens Judith Anderson LB RosserGary Parson@BillPeck Jimmie Henslee Duane Kenton Jeffers Kelly McCallYvonne Coan Al James Carol Yeates Quist Evans Caglage Tracy Achor Hayes Tammy Theis Kate Wagner@lisaDawson Lana Adams Cheryll Smith Hair Makeup Lifestyle Dog Lover Gi Gi Coker
Scott Pharr

For all of the early Dallas Collection Crew: please share with others you may think of, as we all contributed to this along the way. Makes me curious as to which jackets Levi's has in it's archival collection!!

And if you have a minute, take the time to watch the 7 minute video posted on Q***r Britain's museum's website. I'm not a fan of the 'what pronoun are you"... but I'm able to put that aside and hear the message loud and clear. Museums of all types are capable of transforming lives. This particular museum is also capable of saving lives.

40 years and more than $15 million dollars raised, this St. Valentines Day Luncheon is a formidable force in saving lives as the medical community gains better understanding of and strides closer to a cure for blood cancers. I look forward to producing it again with Highland Park Village as our Fashion Sponsor. The women who lead this are some of our foremost philanthropic community fundraisers and it's quite an honor to work with them each year. Thank you .com for your WishList coverage!

According to the 2024 Saint Valentine’s Day Luncheon and Fashion Show Co-Chairs Brooke Shelby and Samantha Wortley: “Since its inception 40 years ago, by founders Rusty Duvall and Janet Evans, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Saint Valentine’s Day Luncheon and Fashion Show has raised more...

may we have your ATTENTION!! It’s official ❤️ Tyson Beckford will present the Lifetime Legacy Award to Bethann Hardison at our 2023 Night of Stars!

is the most recognized male supermodel in the world. At the dawn of the new phrase supermodel, Beckford’s face gracing Ralph Lauren’s Polo and Polo Sport lines immediately vaulted him into icon status. Having worked with leading international fashion brands, he has been the face of Pirelli, an ambassador for Ducati, and spokesman for Mercedes-Benz during Fashion Week. He has endured, now timeless, distinguished and celebrated for trailblazing a path for all that have come – and will come – behind him. His name is still synonymous with the height of men’s fashion because he smashed barriers across entertainment industries as his popularity ushered in the recognition of Black male beauty in all shades. Vogue magazine named Beckford the greatest male model of all time, before being named one of the top 10 most successful male models of all time by the outlet’s UK counterpart in 2019.

Marc Bohan was a wonderful man to walk for at . He treated his models with respect and appreciation and lead the house with grace and warmth. This article gives the reader a glimpse into his understanding of quiet luxury, his desire to design for his clients and not for the press. It also sheds some light on the fully commercial focus of these huge global brands like Dior.

As the creative force for Christian Dior longer than its founder, he maintained a reputation for playful elegance throughout fashion’s endless cycles.

I love everything about this. Especially the paragraph about how adults teach prejudice and hate to children. Therein lies the problem.

My 5-year-old son takes his Frozen backpack to class and when we were on the way to school a girl came with her mother and the girl tells her look how beautiful her backpack is and the lady replies "but it's for a girl" and I thought o Whether my son likes the Frozen movie does being a girl make him?

In his living room they have told him what a nice backpack, because they are little children, they still have innocence, they still preserve their purity...

Children are born without complexes, without prejudice, they are not born macho or feminist, we adults make them like that, we parents make them like that, we contaminate them, we fill them with silly prejudices.

When we arrive at school many people look at us for good, others laugh and whisper but my son feels happy with his backpack and who has questioned why a girl's backpack? he replies "I'm not a girl but I really like Frozen" that doesn't make me a girl.

I love my children and they have great values. I am educating men, not males with a complex.”

The ARMY needs you!

Actually .....the ARMY needs all those clothes you are no longer wearing that are sitting in the back corner of your closet ...or your guest bedroom closet. How 'bout doing something for YOU and for OTHERS this weekend? No need to conquer your closet. Just decide you're going to remove a dozen pieces. Or 2 dozen pieces. Set a small goal and Nike it: ! It's easier to start carving away at what you've held onto rather than do the entire closet in one overhaul.

This event takes designer level pieces from your closet, your Mothers, from estates and yes, from the resale shop where you dropped your pieces. You know: those pieces that didn't sell. SAWA will take them. Those pieces the resale store wouldn't take because they were not current enough? SAWA will take them! As long as they are any level of designer women's clothing.

Make a date to swing by 4400 Lovers Lane in Dallas next Wed morning between 9 and 10:30am and drop off your pieces .. meet some of the AMAZING women from SAWA (Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary) who give so much of their time to help others in our community in need. It's a beautiful . and fun .. thing to do with your clothing. Let it help others rather than just gathering dust in your closet!
Thank you to MySweetCharity for their wonderful support of this program! Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary - Dallas

The fun is guaranteed with long term friend Michael Faircloth's intelligent wit and dry humor at the mic for a program he has designed on the hats. If you've ever whiled away a day at The Arboretum and breathed in it's beauty .. this is a way you can say "thank you" for all that beauty in our midst!

21/01/2023

Everything Frederic Tcheng touches turns to gold. He's a director with a sensitive eye and a keen story telling approach to film making. His stories unfold. Ego doesn't drive his work. Instead, his projects are wholly about the work at hand, the story to be told, the nuance behind all action and thought. He's an artist and we see/hear/feel his art through his film making. He directed, wrote and produced the excellent Dior and I, and Halston film documentaries. He co-produced and co-edited Valentino ThelastEmperor and co-directed Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel.

Can't wait to absorb his latest project: Invisible Beauty. This collab with the legendary Bethann Hardison grew organically into what premiers today Sundance Film Festival, co-produced by Frederic and Bethann.

Bethann was one of Halston's models who participated in fashion's legendary Battle of Versailles at a time that black models were seldom seen in American magazines, advertising campaigns, or on runways.

Bethann stepped off the runways and in 1984 opened her model agency, Bethann Management.
Her work, her standards, her activism and her roster of beauties ultimately forced a reluctant industry to be inclusive in their casting. She challenged the system and won. She also educated along the way.

This part bio-documentary and part social issue documentary will no doubt be well told. After all, it's in Frederic's hands.

Written and directed by Bethann Hardison and Frédéric Tcheng, Invisible Beauty is premiering at the Sundance Film Festival.

A note of gratitude to the always-fun Cynthia Smoot for her caring coverage of the in . And, dear Lance Avery Morgan: your vision for SocietyTexas has been fully achieved and you should be immeasurably proud of what you've created. I enjoy reading about fundraisers across our state, as we learn from one another about new fun and FUND-raising ideas and what succeeds in the major cities that your team covers. However I must confess that my favorite part of your creation are the "thoughtful lessons" you weave throughout each issue (i.e.Grace and Gratitude) and the visually delicious vintage illustrations. Friday evening I enjoyed a full-circle life moment at the annual Fashion Group International Night of Stars Gala honoring the House of Pierre Cardin for it's global achievements.

-----

First photo is me In 1991 wearing this fabulous dress and hat on Pierre Cardin's runway during Haute Couture show week.

------

2nd photo is my dress on display at The Brooklyn Museum for an exhibit mounted in 2019:
Pierre Cardin: Future Fashion

-----

3rd photo is my dress closing the vintage segment in Friday's Pierre Cardin presentation showcasing five of Cardin's most iconic looks, shot by Danny Campbell. I produced the show with PlanetProductions.

The delightful creative team at Cardin asked me if I would wear the dress again for the show. My answer was "while I am flattered, that dress begs for major hipbones as a part of it's sculptural shape and mine are not quite as MAJOR as they were when I walked for Pierre in the 80's and early 90's!"

To my delight, they selected Kim Dawson model Makayla Harmon to wear it. I trained Makayla at the beginning of her modeling career. Kind of a full circle moment for me!
