Good afternoon Winter Series peeps!

Tomorrow is looking like another beautiful day for running!

❄️ Course Conditions ❄️

🏃🏻‍♂️We ran the course today at 2pm and were met with dry pathways mixed with icy patches and snowy stretches. Please take a good look at the pictures! If you are at all questioning your ability to stay upright over ice, please wear spikes or screw shoes. It’s always a good idea to at least bring them.

Also,

🛸 There is an Ultimate Frisbee Tournament at the El Pomar complex tomorrow, starting at 9am. The complex is large and has considerable parking, but please allow time to find a spot and get to the starting line.

And lastly,

🚧 There is more construction being done along S. Academy. Please be prepared for traffic back ups and alternate routes. *** This is expected to begin at the end of the month , disregard ***

See you tomorrow for the Coolest Race in Town 🙌🏼

Hello Winter Series Volunteers!

Again, Winter Series 3 is this upcoming weekend. Hard to believe it is already upon us! Please check your email as assignments have changed a bit!

The third race of the 2023 Winter Series is Saturday, February 18 at El Pomar Youth Sports Park.

The long-distance runners start at 10:00. The short-distance runners start at 10:20.

**Please let your friends know, there is no race day registration**

To find the park, take I-25, exit to Lake Ave / Circle Dr Head east and take a right on Janitell Rd. Take a left on Executive Cir and follow this around to the park entrance at 2212 Executive Cir, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.

We recommend printing your actual assignment along with the course map before heading out there on Saturday. We will meet with course marshals and aid station volunteers at 9:00AM by the bib pickup in the parking lot.

Course marshals and water station volunteers - once the sweep passes you, please pick up any cones, directionals, or anything else on the course you see that needs to be removed (trash, ribbon markers, etc.) and bring them to the finish area. Thank you!!

El Paso County Search and Rescue (EPCSAR) is our sweep and our first contact for emergencies (check email for all contact information).

There is ample parking for all volunteers and participants. Parking will not be an issue.

❄️❄️The 2023 Winter Series awards dinner will take place on Saturday, March 11 at 5:30 at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. You must register online prior to March 3 at 5:00 pm. All volunteers who worked all four Winter Series races are FREE. ❄️❄️

We will have containers to recycle old shoes that will be donated to Sneakers4Funds. The funds received will help us with the Kids Fall Series. During the Fall Series Races, PPRR gathered over 150 # of shoes!! So please bring your old running shoes and donate them for a good cause and help PPRR to raise funds for our kids races in the fall.

❄️ Please expect icy, snowy conditions along the trail and within the park! Be careful of your footing ❄️

See you Saturday!!

Hello Winter Series Volunteers,

We have a special emergency request!

I know this is out of the normal, but Winter Series 4 will follow the trail between The Pikes Peak Greenway and Bear Creek Park next to Walmart. We ran through there last week and the amount of trash and debris is bad, really bad.

So... We are setting up an emergency trail clean up project on Sunday, February 19th at 10:00am and we will be meeting in the 8th street Walmart parking lot near the trail.

We hope to get as many people as possible so this can be a quick and easy clean up effort. We will do the best we can to clean up the trail, tunnel to tunnel.

Gloves and maybe some bags would be great to bring along. Bring your friends too!

Thank you all so much for being a part of our community and helping us to make Colorado Springs a place where we all love to live and run.

I will be sending out Winter Series 3 volunteer assignments tomorrow, so stay tuned. It will be a back to back volunteer weekend! Oi!

08/02/2023

Good afternoon!

Just a reminder that Winter Series III is NEXT week, February 18! And Winter Series IV will be that next weekend, February 25.

We understand that this is a different scheduling setup than typically used in the past, but we wanted to give our amazing timing team (who are volunteers!) some love between Winter Series, Super Half, and Nielson Challenge.

Keep staying active, everyone! 🏃🏾‍♀️🏃🏾🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♀️

28/01/2023

Good morning, Participants!

Academy is CLOSED under I-25. It will direct you onto I-25 to Lake/Circle Exit 138, to HWY 115. This will take you straight to the Cheyenne Mountain State Park entrance.

Please allow time for detours!

27/01/2023

Good afternoon Winter Series participants!!

***Course Conditions Update***

If it’s a condition - it’s out there! Snow, ice, mud, dry - you name it, we ran over it.

Our suggestions:

Spikes are not necessary, but trail shoes would be recommended. If you do not have trail shoes, road shoes with screws would be the next best option. Please keep in mind, the courses were ran during the day - after the sun had been out. The mud will most likely ice over tonight. Colorado Springs is expected to get into the low 20’s overnight and be blustery with flurries into tomorrow. Please keep your safety in mind, bring spikes - just in case - if you feel more comfortable.

Also!

There have been delays in the construction on Academy and I-25. Please be prepared to take an alternate route should that section be closed.

See you tomorrow, everyone! Don’t forget your gloves!

26/01/2023

Happy Thursday PPRR!

We are in need of TWO volunteers on Saturday, January 28th. They are both course marshal/water station positions, 9am to roughly 130pm. Please email [email protected] if you or someone you know are interested!

25/01/2023

The Long Course starts at 10AM. The Short Course starts at 10:20AM.

Bib pick-up opens at 9AM on race day at Visitor’s Center, which is also the location of the start line, and is about a five-minute warm up jog/walk from the parking lot. Please do NOT wear yak tracks or screw shoes inside the Visitor’s Center. We have sweat check for this race, but we’re not responsible for any lost items.

**New for 2023: If you are running the whole series, please save your bib and wear it for all four races. If you did not save your bib from Race I, please email Brandy Loseke at [email protected] by 5:00pm, Friday, January 27. Send Brandy your name and race (Long or Short).

If possible, please consider carpooling 🚙🚙to the race venue. When arriving, go past the Visitor’s Center and you will be directed on where to park in the lower lot. If that lot fills up, you'll have to park further away, in lots deeper in the park. There will be volunteers to direct you.

Updates will be posted on the Winter Series page and the Pikes Pead Road Runners page regarding course 🧊conditions and other information. If you have any questions, please email the Race Directors at [email protected].

👟👟We will have containers at the finish line to recycle old shoes that will be donated to Sneakers4Funds. The funds received will help us with the Kids Fall Series. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday. Have a great, safe race!

21/01/2023

Good afternoon, Winter Series Participants!

You may have noticed that the races are spread out a bit differently than in the past!

In keeping our main volunteer staff in mind, specifically our timing team, we had to avoid other races being held by PPRR within that timeframe. We didn’t want to over burden our resources with two races on one weekend or two races on the same day.

The other races being held are the Neilson Challenge and The Super Half.

Just keeping everyone moving during this winter season 🙌🏼🙌🏼

13/01/2023

Good afternoon, Winter Series participants!

**COURSE UPDATE**

Both courses are mostly dry, with a few patches of ice and snow! Screws, spikes, and/or traction are not necessary, but please always be aware of your footing.

See you tomorrow!

13/01/2023

Good morning, runners!

We’re so excited to see all of you tomorrow!

Remember, Red Leg Brewing will have coffee and breakfast items on site for purchase, along with pizza after the race! The taproom will be opening early for post-run refreshments 🍻

PPRR will have hot chocolate and cider, along with donuts for participants and volunteers 🍩

Check back here later today for course conditions! We are expecting a beautiful day for racing 🏃🏻‍♂️🏃🏻‍♀️
