My pleasure to flower the Holly Hunt showroom this week for Neocon. FIFTY Utah Anthurium makes a statement a kinda sexy one at that!
My flower friends know that I'm kinda obsessed with mechanics. How to achieve this design without floral foam in a wide shallow bowl was a feat and something I'm proud of.
I silicone glued a Holly Chappel plastic cage on the bottom of the bowl, surrounded with rocks so it didn't show and then made a clear tape grid across the vase. I was able to insert the stems through both support points so they stayed in place. The arrangement was as heavy as F! Wheeled it up the dock ramp without a hitch, yay,!

I love this photo of my dad. It was taken at his garden center in Ohio.
Every May we’d get in hundreds of geraniums. They all had to be watered, and kept ready to sell, with no yellow leaves or spent flowers. I was his helper.
From what I can tell, this would have been in the mid 70’s. He got Alopecia a couple years later, and lost big patches of his hair and eyebrows. They said it was caused by stress. Customers assumed he had cancer, and asked about his treatment. He chose to shave his head entirely. My brother helped him after dinner one night, as my mother beat her fists the bathroom door, presumably to watch. Dad owned his new look. He got himself a tanning bed, and even wore a gold chain for awhile. We thought he looked cool, like Telly Savalas.
My father had an insane work ethic. He instilled that in me when I was little by dolling out unattainable tasks. “Make these plant boxes”, he’d say, (it was a ream a mile high) or “sharpen these pencils”, (it was a box of 500). He paid me a dollar an hour, but that's not why I did it.
Dad knew every tree, shrub, insect, and plant disease, and we had every chemical to make things grow faster, kill pests, and banish weeds. He also had graph paper and nifty plastic templates to draw landscape plans.
He got awards for his projects and we made trips to the White House to accept them. I remember he wasn’t too happy with Nancy Reagan, who kept all of us landscapers waiting rose garden for over an hour. It was scorching hot. She gave some excuse, we agreed it was a lame one, and that Betty Ford was much nicer.
You can see that in the photos.
The last photo was taken on one of his few visits to Chicago. he's wearing his company polo. I still have it and wear it to sleep in.
If eye candy had flavor what would this taste like? 🤔For me, I would say plum jam on buttered toast. 😋
😋😋
