Happy Heavenly Birthday Matthew!

The Matthew J. Schwartz Memorial Scholarship is named after one of JRAY’s favorite people. As part of the JRAY adjudicating team, Matthew noticed the people behind the scenes; the musician, costumer designer, set builder, the techie, those that contributed to the production, but often, never set foot on stage to perform.

In Matthew’s honor, his son, Aaron and his sister, Narda have kept Matthew’s spirit alive by donating scholarship donations to award four $1000 scholarships in Matthew’s name.

Lavenia Hartojo (Temple City HS) Johannes Eberhart (Palos Verdes HS) Edith Cervantes (Romona HS) and Aidan Cong (Charter Oak)

Each of these outstanding young people received a scholarship in Matthew’s name because they embody the spirit of Matthew. We always want to remember that every production team member is an important, vital member of the show. ‘‘Quite simply, there is no show without the talent and dedication of people like you.”

Griff and Jan Duncan dedicated their lives to musical theatre. During FCLO’s 40+ years producing regional theatre in Southern California, employing 1,000’s of actors, scenic artists, technicians, set builders, costumers, etc., contributing to the livelihood of artists locally, nationally and globally their legacy lives on through the JRAYs John Raitt Awards for Youth.

On Memorial Day, May 29 , dedicated to their belief in the youth of today, the 14th Annual John Raitt Awards for Youth - JRAY Awards took the stage to a sold out 1400 seat house at the historic San Gabriel Mission Playhouse.

Thank you to all who donated to JRAY, which is still the FCLO 501(c)3.
Yes, volunteers are still keeping the dream alive.

If you were able to donate here’s where you helped make a difference. All these kids on stage have dreams. In a world with many uncertainties, they dream of making it better.
They want to go onto college, maybe they want to pursue a degree in stage managing, sound, light, or costume design.

Maybe acting is their passion.

Whatever it is, you can help show a young adult that you believe in them, in their future.

We gave away ten $1,000 scholarships, along with industry professionals who have donated their time to teach workshops to talented, eager kids.

Four outstanding, talented teens will go to NYC for a week of professional training at Broadway Artists Alliance (BAA).

JRAY IS still paying for this day. As you can imagine, the JRAY Awards is an expensive endeavor.

If you can spare $25, or any amount, any donation is appreciated. We are an organization of volunteers, donating many hours, gas, mileage, time and money to ‘our kids’, because in reality, they are ‘all’ our kids.

If Jan and Griff Duncan touched your life, or believed in you, we welcome your donation to keep our theatre kids’ dreams alive.

Griff Duncan:
Donation Request
On this Memorial Day please join us in paying tribute to our very own veteran Griff Duncan,
Founder of the John Raitt Awards for Youth (JRAY).

Griff is the heart and soul of JRAY. In his last years of a remarkable life producing regional theatre in Southern California (FCLO), he turned his focus to creating an awards ceremony that celebrates excellence in high school musical theatre.

14 years later, to a sold out house of students, teachers, and guests, 1400 theatre lovers will gather together in the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse to celebrate what is right in the world; the kids that made Griff tear up when he talked about JRAY and how much he cared and believed in the youth of today.

If you have been touched by JRAY, or by Griff please consider donating any amount, no amount is too small. We need your help.

JRAY is a non-profit operating solely by volunteers, and it is dependent on contributions by people like you to sponsor our ongoing dedication to provide scholarships and unique opportunities for the youth of today.

To donate, please visit JRAY https://www.jrayawards.com
