They said that I was a lost cause. So I got a job that I hated to appease them. They cracked jokes about living at home so I got an apartment I couldn’t afford. They told me I was too old to be single. So I forced a relationship that made no sense. I was always listening to “them,” searching for backhanded approval, looking for acceptance. But “they” never showed up when it mattered. When I lost everything they weren’t there. And they weren’t there when I picked myself back up either. When I dusted myself off and started living a life of passion. I’m not searching anymore. I know exactly where I’m going.
