This year the holiday baking has looked a little different. With three kiddos and a hectic schedule there hasn’t been much so I’m throwing it back to these sweet cookie boxes I made last year. Maybe next week I’ll dust off my stand mixer and get in the baking mood!

Also, these adorable (and customizable) gift tags are from . It’s honestly one of my favorite subscriptions 🥰

This isn’t a pretty, aesthetically pleasing photo, but what it represents is something so beautiful.

Tonight our friends are completing their home study to be licensed for Foster Care. I volunteered to bring them some dinner so they had one last thing to worry about. As I looked for a dish to pack up their pot pie soup, I grabbed this seemingly insignificant Rubbermaid container with “Travis” written on it. Our last name isn’t Travis. We were given this about a month ago after we brought home our youngest from the NICU. They family that brought it over isn’t also is not the Travis family. And they got it from someone when they had their newest baby last spring from a family, also without the name of Travis. Each time all of us have gone to return the dish, we have been told to just pass it along. “Give it to the next person you take a meal to.”
So tonight I’m sitting here wondering if the Travis family knows that their little insignificant dish has been used countless times to bring dinner and love to families who need a little respite. From celebrating new life and the exhausting first few months of life, to taking the burden off a busy family friend, to providing sustenance to those mourning- what a beautiful gesture. It’s amazing that an act as small as taking a meal to someone can mean so much.
Travis family- whoever you are, I’m glad to be a part of the legacy of hospitality and care this little container represents.

This was E’s 4th birthday S’mores cake! We went all out at Camp E and this was the first big party we invited all his school friends to.
This poor kid was born in July which means it’s always sweltering and he always wants an outdoor party.
This year it’s Cap’n Redhead’s 6th swashbuckling birthday and we are going all out! That means cannonball (water balloons) fights, walking the plank (slip and slide) and all things pirate!
Can’t wait to show y’all the pics!!

We are two weeks away from this kid turning 6!! Not sure how 6 years blew by so quickly but as we get ready to celebrate him, and welcome his new brother in the coming months I can’t help but be so incredibly thankful for the gift of motherhood and raising my sweet boys.
Time. Slow down!!

It may feel like 110 degrees outside, but on the blog I’m breaking down everything you need for a romantic picnic- including links to some yummy foods you can pack with you!

Even if it’s too hot to lunch outside with your love, you can always opt for a candle light picnic after the babes are in bed for the night 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Summer in Texas leaves much to be desired. In Houston, the humidity is so high which makes the 100 degrees feel like 117- no joke- so there isn’t much I want to be doing outdoors—especially this year with two rambunctious boys and super pregnant with our third. So, while I love the idea of summer, Texas summers are not the ideal hosting season in practice. But that doesn’t stop me from hosting inside, which means lots of summery sun dresses! I’ve rounded up a few from J. Crew Factory on sale right now and wanted to share them!

There is something about grilled bread that just makes all the flavors pop!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m pairing some smokey grilled bread with my go to salad from last summer filled with mozzarella (or burrata) watermelon, heirloom tomatoes, and basil!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Load up your break with a heaping helping of the salad, then sprinkle some kosher salt and finish it off with a drizzle of balsamic glaze. I promise, you with be eating this on repeat all summer long 🥰🍉

I had the sweet pleasure of making her wedding cake, her FIL’s retirement cupcakes, and her sister’s baby’s shower cake a few years ago. I love getting to make cakes for the whole fam! 🥰

Wanting to learn more about hospitality and where our hearts should be when opening our doors? Me too!! 🙌🏻

I made a list of a few books I wanted to read/listen to for the beginning of the year. Some google suggestions, others, like Making Room were suggested by a huge hospitality inspiration in her own right.

After each book I’ll share a little Instagram story about what stood out and how it’s going to impact my hosting in the future.

I’d love for you to read along with me and let me know what your thoughts are! Love it? Hate it? Feeling convicted by it? I want to know!

Have you read any of these before? Are there any others I should add to my list?! Let me know!!

Challenging myself to come up with a fresh new look for Thanksgiving while using the same plates I’ve had for the last 3 years- let’s be honest I only use these one day a year but I do want to change it up!

This is hands down my absolute favorite fall dish. The warmth and sweetness from the butternut squash, the heat from the spicy Italian sausage, the creamy cheesy pasta- so so good!

Confession time.

I don’t love Halloween. Give me all the fall decorations and pumpkins and apple cider and baking, but Halloween, eh.

But what I do love is fall baking and sharing those treats with friends and family. I’ve always liked wrapping them up with ribbon, but this year I stepped the wrapping up a notch with these gift tags from Mackenzie has so many cute paper products to choose from (even some cute Halloween stuff too 😉.)

While I love custom paper goods, the ease of being able to download, customize, and print within minutes is wonderful! You should definitely check out her shop. She just launched her Christmas designs and they are 😍😍😍

Last year I got this paint-by-number canvas and spent hours finishing it. It was so nice to sit and focus on something after the boys went to bed- so peaceful and quiet- it was wonderful.

I have no clue where it ended up after the move, but I'm thinking a new one may be the perfect project to work on to de-stress from all the holiday planning and general craziness that is bound to happen in the next few months.

Need an easy dessert that looks fancy schmancy? Try this!

Throw some sugar cookie dough in a mini tart pan- I prefer homemade, but storebought will do. (read that in your best Ina Garten impression)

Whip up some cream cheese, lemon juice, and confectioners sugar until light and creamy. The lemon juice will help cut through the sweetness of the cookie dough.

Top with berries of your choice and sprinkle some confectioners sugar on top and you are ready to go.

How easy was that?

I thought I'd pop in and re-introduce myself.

I'm a boy mom that loves all things girly. So far my boys haven't complained about all the floral pillows and chinoiserie jars everywhere!
I am low-key competitive. I love a good couples game night, and you can bet that I'm in it to win it (and now I'm thinking of Troy in HS Musical.)
As much as I love paper calendars, I currently live my life according to our family calendar app. Between a crazy work schedule for my husband and all the school events for my boys, there would be no way I'd make it to everything on time without it. The hubs and I have a shared calendar so that we can keep everyone in the loop!

Other than that, I love getting to host and plan and bake and cook, and I'm so glad to share that with all of you!

One more photo from the beautiful couples baby shower from a few weeks ago! Baby Q we can’t wait to meet you!!

There is something special when your people start having people. When we had our oldest it was such a blessing to see our friends love him and care so well for him.

With friends having babies and adopting babies and fostering babies it is such a joy to be able to celebrate them all! This momma is definitely getting her baby fix through all the new babes!

Special shout-out to the fantastic co-hosts who made the night so much fun: .lyle

Don’t ever make this apple cider before the official start of fall!

Because if you do, you will find that apple cider is harder to find than you think. And if you can’t find apple cider you will spend hours making your own apple cider just to make this cake.

Was it worth it? My husband would say no, but this gal says heck yeah! This pound cake has a unique balance of sweet and tartness from the apples to cut through it all. It’s delicious and I highly encourage you to give it a shot, now that you can actually find apple cider in stores 😂

Today on the blog I’m sharing the game changing lesson I learned about the difference between hosting and entertaining.

I can’t take any credit for this- it’s a quote from a book I recently read and it was super convicting.

“Entertaining is when you clean everything, make up nice plates of food and batches of drinks, and maybe get a sitter for the kids. At best, entertaining is where we honor our guests by offering an experience of comfort and beauty. At worst, entertaining is where we honor ourselves by showing off what we can pull off. “ -from Habits of a Household by

After reading this (well, actually listening to the audiobook because momma needs to multitask), I now ask myself- am I doing this to honor our guests, or show off what I can throw together.

It’s not about the items you have, it’s about your heart and intentions. You can read more on the blog by clicking the link in my bio.

Also, I highly recommend the book if you are looking for your next read.

Today on the blog I’m sharing the items I reach for over and over when I’m hosting larger groups of people.

Most people assume that you have to spend oodles of money on everything (and on some dinnerware sets that may be true) but for the most part I like to have a lot of options so keeping things budget friendly is important to me.

Check out where I got my hosting basics- including the plates I reach for when I’m hosting more than 12! I think you’ll be really surprised.
