Happy Wednesday friends! Youโve heard me talk about the โHappy Hormonesโ and how they can really be activated when doing mind-body movements like yoga and dance.
Iโd like to share with you a little more about what these hormones are, and other ways you can release them when you are needing a boost, especially with the busyness of the holiday season sneaking up on us!
๐ ๐๐ผ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐บ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ: Also known as the โfeel-goodโ hormone, dopamine is a neurotransmitter thatโs an important part of our brainโs reward system. Dopamine is associated with pleasurable sensations, along with learning, memory, motor system function, and more. The release of dopamine gives feelings of well-being and motivates us to seek things we enjoy and do well.
๐ ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ผ๐ป๐ถ๐ป: This hormone (and neurotransmitter) is a natural stress reliever that helps stabilize our mood and increases feelings of happiness and well-being. It also helps regulate our sleep, appetite, digestion, learning ability, and memory.

๐๐๐ผ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ป: Often called the โlove hormone,โ oxytocin is essential for connecting with ourselves and others. It can help promote trust, empathy, and bonding in relationships, and oxytocin levels generally increase with physical affection like kissing, cuddling, and s*x. The release of this hormone has been linked to high levels of life satisfaction.
๐ ๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฝ๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐: Endorphins are our bodyโs natural pain reliever, produced by the central nervous system. They can be released in response to pain or stress, but also can increase when we engage in reward-producing activities, such as eating, working out, or having s*x.
There are so many ways to tap into these Happy Hormones, a few of which Iโve outlined in the graphic above. Let me know if there are any others you like to use!
Making small efforts to stay centered and grounded can help us to be fully present and appreciate time with family and friends that much more, enjoy these cozy moments and connection, which is so good for our soul!
