A pre season run out for Academy coach David Gold against Motherwell today.

Helping his side to a 1-0 win.

David runs weekly coaching sessions each Friday evening for children aged 5-12 years old.

Arbroath 1 - 0 Motherwell

A late goal from Steven Doris secured a win over Motherwell today in our first pre-season friendly at Gayfield. A legend from his first spell at Gayfield when his goals helped secure our first ever league title had actually been substituted but returned to the pitch after injury to Josh Thompson (T).

The first half ended with a solid performance from the Lichties but not much from either side in front of goal but both teams attacked more in the second half and Omar Kader came close for Arbroath before Colin Hamilton also had a shot saved by Dean Brill before Steven Doris also rattled the crossbar from 25 yards.

There was a blend of familiar faces in the Arbroath line up as Doris was joined by the return of Colin Hamilton who impressed as Omar Kader, Ryan McCord made their Arbroath debuts alongside Robbie Mutch in goal.

Josh Thomson, a former Cowdenbeath defender played as a trialist at right back with Gary Phillips, playing at left back - also on trial. Former Albion Rovers defender, Gary was also at Gayfield last season for pre-season.

Another very familiar player to the Lichties also made an appearance as a trialist at half time as Goalkeeper Marc McCallum replaced the very composed Robbie Mutch in goal as David Gold also came on to replace McCord.

Former Rangers Striker Junior Ogen (trialist) came on half way through the second half for Doris, before Doris returned after Thomson picked up an injury.

Bobby Linn, Michael Dunlop were unused subs.

Over the past few weeks we have been in discussion with a forward thinking GK coach that would allow us to offer specialised coaching to our tour attending Goalkeepers.

We are now pleased to announce that Andy Collier's AMC Goalkeeping Academy will be providing us with that area of expertise.

In addition to this we are looking to arrange a specialised Goalkeeping Tour for young Keepers to attend a structured programme that will expose players to a number of different aspects of the game that are essential in their development and education.

One of the many benefits of this partnership will be seen today where a young Goalkeeper, Max Cichowski, recommended by Andy, will take part in one of our showcase games this afternoon against a strong St Mirren side.

Some footage of last Friday's session where Kyzo is showing his confidence in dealing with a 1v1 situation and backing his ability to get by that final man.

Our sessions are built around providing young players of all abilities that extra confidence with the ball at their feet to allow them to express themselves on the park come game day or out for a kick around with friends.

Sessions are held every Friday at 5pm, Northfield Community Centre, Willowbrae.

The Future

As preparation for the new season is in full swing these are the current standings of the playing squad for 2016 / 2017.

Players retained - David Gold, Kane Hester, Bobby Linn, Ricky Little, Mark Whatley, Craig Wilson with an extension to Craig Johnstone’s contract intimated.

Players released - Allan Fleming, Calum Brodie, Andy Munro, Jordan Lowdon, Sergio Alvarez, Greg Rutherford, Keiran Stewart, Jamie Reid and Joao Victoria.

Loan players expired - Darren Ramsay, Craig Watson, Shaun Rutherford, Jamie Henry, Mark Williams, and Josh Skelly.

Players that have agreed terms - Steven Doris, Michael Dunlop, Colin Hamilton, Omar Kader, Gavin Malin, Bryan Prunty and Ryan McCord.

Manager Dick Campbell is still looking to strengthen his squad with a goalkeeper, centre half and a striker his top targets.

We will keep you up to date with any new signings but hopefully the fans are excited with the squad already assembled for the new season.

Congratulations to former client Omar Bogle on bagging a brace at Wembley for Grimsby Town.

A little over 4 years ago we approached Omar to assist him in finding a new club after coming through the Birmingham City academy and then a stint at Celtic.

We arranged for Omar to sign with non league sides Hinkley and then Solihull.

Challenging Omar to take a step down to build a himself back up and move back in to league football.

Yesterday the final piece of the jigsaw fell in to place.

Grimsby Town earn promotion back to the Football League with a 3-1 victory over Forest Green Rovers in the Vanarama Promotion Final at Wembley.
