Hello, it looks like I’ve been gone for a few years. Pardon me as I make updates. The adventures have not stopped. However, between transitions happening during and post prime pandemic days, it appears that this page was disconnected from my primary account. Cheers to reconnecting!
Oluwatoyin “Toyin” Salau fought in two wars. She fought in the war against injustice towards Black people. She also fought in the war against abuse, disrespect, neglect, and gender inequity towards Black women.
It’s been a difficult few weeks for me, personally. Years have gone by and the lives taken unjustly by devils just keep piling up. Alberta Spruill, Deborah Danner, Sandra Bland, Aiyana Stanley-Jones, Kathryn Johnston, Atatiana Jefferson, Breonna Taylor, and now you Toyin, just to name a few.
I’ve been trying to make sense of it all. Asking myself why none of your family and friends knew of your whereabouts. I’ve been trying to understand why you were alone. I’ve been trying to understand why any of this happened to you.
I’m sorry Toyin, that nobody stood up for you, like you did for others. I pray that God watches over your spirit in this transition. This cover is dedicated to you and your beautiful, strong, and loving spirit.
Pretty pink, baby blue. Why don’t you show me something new? This birthday, I’m awakening the child in me. Let’s take it back to simpler times like 90’s R&B. I feel that 2020 has been a rough start for many people. What I want you to know is that, it’s perfectly fine to have a rough start. It’s ok to feel pain, to feel hurt, and to cry. The season is winter right now and the sun doesn’t shine as bright. The weather is not as favorable. Something about life itself seems to always be off in the beginning of a new year. That’s okay, because from these hardships we learn and we improve. We learn how to accept what we are feeling. We learn how to acknowledge the grief. We rest, because spring is around the corner. This is when we are renewed, so that we can blossom in the summer. Today may not feel like your best days, but please always remember that your best is yet to come. For some of you, that’s graduating college. For others that’s getting married to love of their life. For many it’s a financial breakthrough. Let me tell you, don’t break down.
