Reminder:

Tomorrow is the first "Originals" Songwriter Showcase at The Roost in West Ashley. Sign up is at 6PM. We will go for as long as it takes within reason.

How many are actually going to show up? Comment the word "present" below. If we get too many they will run over into next week.

Tomorrow will be a soft opening and we will be tweaking some details. I will personally be giving away $100 to one particular artist but it won't necessarily be the "best" artist. There will be other "observers" not "judges" there to help with that decision. And of course we will be paying attention to audience response, so bring your friends!

The idea is to create a listening room experience much like the Bluebird in Nashville and Eddie's Attic in Atlanta if you are familiar with those venues. We will do our best to request for people to leave their phones on silent and give our attention to the performer so they really feel like they are being heard.

We will also be giving away studio time and a production packages to help inspire others to keep going.

Thank you to all of you ahead of time for being a part of this dream of mine. I'm being inspired by all of you.

I don't know what this is going to become but I'm excited to get together with some old friends and make some new friends.

Music unites us in a world of too much isolation.

I’m starting an open mic/ songwriters showcase where the focus will be on original songwriting.

ASCAP and BMI will not be able to bill the venue we play at because the minute you start to play a cover you will get “The Gong”

We will be giving away cash prizes and studio time to the best songs. This isn’t about being a great performer so even if you don’t have a strong voice you have a chance.

Come sing your song and let us see your soul.

First event will be next week

When is the last time you wrote a song? How about a song that gave you a real feeling of accomplishment. One that you know the entire universe needed to hear and you were rewarded with chills up your spine and a lump of gratitude in your throat that you had to swallow I back just short of shedding tears. But then you went ahead and shed the tears anyway because it was that good.
As songwriters, we not only have a gift and pleasure of creating great music that brings joy to ourselves and others when we play it, but we also have a responsibility to use these gifts wisely and for the service of our loved ones and those who are on the same journey.
Music is our connection with the vibration that we already are. We are blessed in this life as musicians and songwriters with a privilege most won't ever get to know.
Be grateful. I am.

Round 1 of the showcase will be at 541 King St. at King Dusko on June 8. Bring your A game and your best original material. We will give away $50 to the best lyrical content. Not so much your ability to sing or play. This is about substance. Sign up at 7:30. Bring your instrument and yourself. We have the sound system. See you there.

Charleston Songwriters Guild
2015 Summer Regional Showcase

We will be holding preliminary regional showcases this year in Summerville, West Ashley, James Island, Mt. Pleasant, and Downtown. Each showcase will award $50 to the most original and outstanding lyricist. $25 will be awarded to a runner up. Both will have a slot at the final showcase for a chance to win $500 or studio time. The grand prize winner will decide and the other prize will go to the runner up.

This is not a guitar playing or singing contest. This is not about performance as much as it is lyric writing ability and the ability to move someone with words. The decision will not be based on just a panel of accomplished songwriters, but ultimately the audience will be the ones to decide. We’ve done this before and it seems to be the only fair way to do it.

Artists will only have one chance per region to make it to the finals.

If you or someone you know is a songwriter and would like to participate, please share this with them and have them send a private message to CSG’s FB page for entry. All performances will be video taped and we ask that all material submitted is copyrighted. It is not CSG’s responsibility to protect your intellectual property. There will be no talking allowed during these showcases so that we can respect the vulnerable space for each artist to be heard and understood. We appreciate you understanding and we are grateful to have an opportunity to bring songwriters together in a listening room atmosphere.

This summer we are going to start the CSG series where we showcase Charleston's original talent. We will record and film each showcase and will give recognition to the artist that stands out the most. Not to create competition, but to reward the artist for their hard work. The decision will not be based on technical ability, but originality, lyrical content, and delivery. The audience will have a say in the decision by default because they will be there listening and will show appreciation accordingly. There will
be prizes for incentive to bring your best material. This is a new concept and we will be announcing the time, date, and locations of the showcases very soon. Stay tuned.
