Our Story
Field Club of Omaha is the oldest 18-hole golf course still on its original land west of the Mississippi. It features one of the largest pools in Omaha, a beautiful Ballroom, Verandas, and Dining room. The Field Club offers comfort and tradition to all its members as well as it’s guests. We are a private club, but our event space is available to the community.
In 1898 the Club was founded as the Omaha Cricket Association. In the spring of 1901 the club house was constructed along with a nine-hole golf course and a cricket field. Later the next year the course was expanded along with the addition of bowling alleys at the club house, tennis courts, and the cricket field was replaced by a baseball diamond complete with a grandstand.
The original clubhouse, designed by Lawrie and George Fischer, was a rambling, shingle-style, dormer-roofed building with an open veranda on the south side and an inviting north entry with a large porch. The bowling alleys later became the lady’s locker room. The famous white, west-facing balcony and columns were added in 1926.
As the years passed, the Club continued to grow, develop, and settle into the role as on the of the area’s finest! In 1941 the Club hosted the 45th National Amateur Golf Tournament.
