Leaf drama. Always a crowd pleaser.

Proper light, consistent watering, a regular organic fertilizing schedule and heat/humidity helped this prolific Alocasia to reach over 10 ft tall.

There are two types of "elephant ears": alocasias and colocasias ( each type has many varieties.) Colocasias leaf tip points down, they prefer full sun and consistent moisture. Alocasias hold the tip of their leaves upward and they prefer more well drained soil and a little shade.

What a beautiful day for an amazing couple!
One of the most special moments for me was seeing the bride/groom return to the ceremony florals once all the guests left and she just stopped to "take it all in." With tears in her eyes, .a.brown just admired all the florals and the breathtaking view

Plant selection can be a daunting task! With a degree in horticulture and years of professional experience, I can make the process fun and less intimidating.

I have witnessed (and personally have experienced) intimidating gardeners who make you feel foolish for asking questions. Not here, ever!

A "real gardener" is someone who never stops learning and experimenting. I encourage everyone to try it. Gardening is great for our health (physical and mental) and our environment, so the more who particate, the better for everyone!

Guilty as charged! I often only show the beautiful end results. Pretty pictures of gardens, planters and wedding arrangements. Truth is, there is a lot of behind the scenes work that goes on to make those things happen that is worth recognizing.

The knowledge time and skills required are worth showing so they can be valued. There is a lot of time spent on paperwork, billing, design, careful plant selections, shopping for the best product and manual labor prepping gardens, pruning, fertilizing and weeding.

So here's to the messy beginnings! And all the awesome people that help to make beauty with me each day!

Daffodil Society, Blithewold and the Federation of Garden Clubs have partnered to put on a daffodil show this weekend.

No better place than to see the most incredible display and variety of daffodils from all 14 divisions. Tickets available online or walk ins throughout the weekend.

This mass arrangement was designed with Blithewold's grand entrance in mind.

🌸National Floral Design Day🌸

Today, February 28th recognizes the art and history of floral design. For thousands of years, floral design has been an important cultural art form. This is the day we celebrate that art form. It may be in a bouquet, painting, in textiles, a garden or a floral arrangement.

Flowers are so much more than just a "decoration." They raise our vibrational frequency and allow us to feel and experience the beauty and abundance of our planet. They are shared in times when words alone do not suffice to express our emotions.

As said it best, our art is not about showing off, but showing your "untamed" self. We have to fearlessly put our own original art/style out into the world and not worry how it is received. We have to avoid copying everything we see on social media. It is robbing us all of our own creativity.

Decorations packed away and everyone hunkering down for winter weather?

Plants are the solution to add a fresh feel and pass the time until we can get back in the garden. I find bulbs like amaryllis and paperwhites to be particularly rewarding, as they grow and change so quickly and end with a grand finale of blooms. My paperwhites have grown over 3 feet tall in a month. Highly enjoyable, strongly recommend.

In a clients greenhouse,I've added a pop of white cyclamen and amaryllis to add interest while most other plants dormant for the winter.

From garden to vase:

With snow in mind, Leucojum aestivum 'Gravetye Giant' (summer snowflake) is a great choice for florists and gardeners.
This bulb naturalizes(spreads) which we love, and looks like a giant Lily-of-the-Valley. It is resistant to deer and rabbits and can handle wet or dry soil (hello extreme weather conditions.) Plant them with ferns and white Narcissus for a beautiful combination.

As a cut flower, summer snowflake blends perfectly with other later spring blooms to add a light and airy touch to an arrangement.

Sparkle at Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum is a magical holiday light experience in Bristol, RI. Each ornament is hand-made, many out of bamboo, and the lights showcase an exquisite arboretum, from Giant Sequoia to stunning mature weeping beach and a bamboo forest. A magical experience right in our our own backyard.

Dan Christina and his horticulture team did an incredible job in honoring the late Fred Perry and carrying on this special tradition. Not to be missed!

hot chocolate and s'mores around the fire as well as a beautifully decorated Mansion makes this the perfect outing to connect with friends and family over the holidays.
