Politics is a hard gig to get into, and that’s because the top end of town don’t want you to!!

This job should be an open contest of ideas!! But today the LNP and Labor conspired to ram new laws through the Senate that shut out new and small parties and entrench a two-party rule, increasing the required membership for registration from 500 to 1500 members.

The Greens started from humble origins as a small grassroots movement in Tassie, and have grown into the globally significant party we are today. But we won’t ever try to undermine democracy or prohibit others from getting involved.

There’s a reason the vote for the big parties is the lowest in history - the community is sick of being put behind big donors!!

This is yet another abuse of democratic process from the LNP and Labor parties in a weak and disgraceful attempt to secure power ahead of the election.

They’re swindling the system in their own favour, rather than doing their actual jobs of strengthening the democratic process in this country!!!

Ambos, firefighters, police - all of our emergency service workers do amazing work protecting our loved ones and our state - day in, day out.

In their work they face traumas that some of us couldn't even imagine - and these experiences understandably take a heavy toll. It's no surprise that emergency service workers are far more likely to suffer serious and debilitating mental illness.

But with WorkCover claims for mental health taking longer to process than for physical injuries, our frontline workers were forced to choose between delaying critical treatment or facing out of pocket expenses while they waited for their claim to go through.

That's why in 2018 we promised to introduce provisional payments for mental health injuries for Victoria's emergency service workforce. Payments could be accessed straight away to covered the costs of appointments, medication and hospitalisation.

It made a big difference - which is why we've expanded the program to cover every single Victorian worker.

Because no matter what kind of injury someone may get at work - whether it's a broken bone or a mental illness - early treatment means an earlier recovery.

And that's better for every family, every workplace - and our state.
