What an incredible weekend we had at Magifest. It was truly magical to see so many of our CC family and friends gathering to share and celebrate the art of magic. Thank you to all who took and shared such amazing photos! ❤️

🔓Unlock the Secret to Enjoying Success in Sharing Your Talents

Long before I was the co-founder of Conjuror Community, and before I was even a professional magician—I was a teenage boy who thought about and practiced magic over 15 hours a day. For years and years I practiced—and the longer I practiced, the more unlikely I was to show anyone a trick.

Like many of our magical brothers and sisters out there, everyone who knew me knew I LOVED magic—and was surprised and confused by my downright unwillingness to share any magic!

There are so many reasons we keep ourselves and our magic tucked away. Sometimes we think we’re not good enough. Sometimes we think we need the perfect trick. Sometimes we think we need that perfect presentation or a character to be able to deliver it.

Well, let me tell you…

…you can do it NOW. 💪

You already have what you need. ✅

🫵 Your own experiences and personality already make you unique.

In fact, most of what you’re wanting to develop comes from getting up and doing magic for people. 🪄

It’s easy for us to keep refocusing our attention on the next hot trick or that great sleight of hand we saw from a magician we admire. It’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to our heroes or the other magicians we know. The truth is all of that often keeps our magic locked away in our homes, in front of our practice mirrors and far away from the eyes of spectators who will enjoy it–even some of the easiest tricks you know.

If you’ve been waiting… wishing… hoping that one day you’ll have what it takes to perform for actual people, here’s my challenge to you:

Pick a trick you know how to do that isn’t a stretch for you to do technically (self working tricks can be great for this) and share it with someone who will appreciate it. Give yourself permission to have fun, take your time, be present and connect with them. Remember there’s more to magic than just the tricks. The magic that lives inside humans connecting with each other and sharing a moment can be just as powerful as the most difficult move you could dream of. You just never know what someone is going through and how a simple surprise, smile or human connection can change their whole day. 🪄🌟

One factor above all determines whether folks in your audience will be riveted and enthralled—or bored and restless. What is it?

What you SAY to an audience that makes people interested in what you are about to DO.

PRINCIPLE #1: Remember, compared to your audience, you're the ultimate magic expert in the room. People are naturally curious about magic, so give them a sneak peek behind the curtain. By doing so, you'll grab their attention and keep it throughout your performance.

PRINCIPLE #2: Share fascinating, thought-provoking tidbits that are true and relevant to your personal perspective or experience. Audiences love discovering interesting ideas, and when you weave these into your act, you'll engage people even more.

PRINCIPLE #3: You don't need massive props or illusions to captivate your audience. If you follow principles #1 and #2, you can seize and maintain their attention with just the magic you already have.

Follow these simple tips from Scott Alexander: How to do ‘walk around’ magic so audiences and clients LOVE you and your magic.

1. Introduce yourself and ask if you can show them something cool.
2. Keep your tricks simple and easy to understand.
3. Try the Color Monte routine - it's one of Scott's favorites to do when strolling around! (you can see it—along with many of Scott’s favorites, at the link in this post.)
4. Choose tricks that reset automatically and don't require a lot of setup or props.
Remember, the goal is to create a fun and engaging experience for your audience, not to inconvenience or annoy them. Keep these tips in mind and watch your audience's reactions!
