Elizabeth Lord Celebrant Beautiful, heartfelt ceremonies for weddings, life celebrations, renewal of vows and baby namings. I can help with this.

Hi, my name is Elizabeth Lord and I’m an Authorised Civil Celebrant with a heartfelt interest in people and the important moments in their lives that can be celebrated in a beautiful, meaningful way. I have married people in a variety of settings, from Perth on the beautiful Swan River, to Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays, Mount Warning in Northern NSW atop an amazing hill with 360 degree views,

Nambucca Heads Beach at dawn, Jack Evans Boat Harbour at Tweed and a host of other venues, be they humble or extravagant! Some ceremonies have been short and sweet, others longer with various rituals included. While no two weddings are the same, I can assure you that my commitment to serving you in in a warm and professional way is always my priority. Having spent my life as a singer and songwriter, including many engagements at weddings and life celebrations, I came to realise that perhaps I may be able to bring something special to people wanting to marry outside of a church setting, or renewing their vows to each other, even for those saying farewell to a loved one. These moments require sensitivity and respect, and it can often help to receive assistance when creating a ceremony to best reflect the lives and tell the stories of the people involved. I love to compose or source appropriate verses, songs and/or poetry to enhance the celebration, inviting mystery and magic to be present. When it comes to marriages it’s vitally important to meet all legal requirements and time frames, and I’m fully qualified to do this as well. Whether it’s a wedding, baby naming, a celebration of life, or renewal of vows, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I’ll happily provide you with testimonials from couples I have already had the pleasure to assist, and provide you with a no obligation quote. Oh, and just remember, ceremonies can be held, anywhere, anytime! I look forward to the opportunity to be of service.

I love officiating at weddings, and I have some news-my daughter Lara has just become a marriage celebrant as well, in fact, she will be doing her first wedding this coming weekend. Lara is Brisbane based, but like all celebrants, more than happy to travel, she already has her next wedding booked so if you are looking for a young, fun celebrant with heart of gold, check out Love by Lara.

This was a beautiful wedding, and a stunning location, Forget Me Not at Coopers Shoot. Hollie and Trents marriage was so special, and so authentic. It was a pleasure to play my part as their celebrant.

Two of the loveliest people you could ever meet, Denise and Glenn, celebrating their marriage at Hastings Point NSW. The wind nearly blew us completely away that day, but somehow added to the power of their commitment.

I am so excited to be able to marry ALL people now, thanks to the overwhelming majority of people voting yes to marriage equality. I would love to hear from people who are thinking of getting married to discuss why I believe I can help you both create a ceremony with heart, that you will always remember. Please get in touch xox

A beautiful wedding today at Wollumbin, the lovely Russian born couple have given me permission to post these pics off my phone. Thankyou both for entrusting me with your ceremony xox

A wedding tomorrow, a Russian couple, at one of my favorite locations in the world! Mount Warning. I will never grow tired of the vista and the magic of this beautiful Wollumbin Mountain.

A very special offer for any couple wishing to book their ceremony with me anytime before June 30 2015. I am offering a free sand ceremony valued at $60. "The Unity Sand Ceremony is an ancient and beautiful tradition that combines elements of nature’s glory with a sacred moment. Hawaiians claim the Unity Sand Ceremony as their own way of adding joy and meaning to their wedding ceremonies. It’s said that couples knelt and scooped up grains of sand to represent the sacred moment. Releasing some to blow back with the wind, they poured some sand into a container to keep, forever reminding them of the vows spoken under the sun.
By each taking sand from a vessel of their own, and pouring them into a common vessel where the sands merge, they are stating that, as impossible as it would be to separate those grains of sand back to their individual containers, so will it be impossible to see themselves existing separately from this day on."
The following picture is from a ceremony I conducted last year in which the couple used a combination of natural sand with henna dyed sand to create their own special magic bottle of memories. It was very beautiful.

Being a celebrant is so much fun! Here's an action pic from one of the ceremonies I've had the pleasure to be a part of.
This week I meet with another lovely couple who will be married at Tweed, then, a Russian couple who will take their vows under the majesty of Wollumbin Mountain near Uki close to sunset. I took this pic of the mountain a couple of years ago in Murwillumbah.

The wedding calender is beginning to fill for the year ahead, and as always I'm looking forward to creating beautiful ceremonies that truly reflect the couples unique love language. One of my favorite things to do is taking photos to include in the ceremony booklet. Here's a few to enjoy xox

Hillsong United - "Oceans" (Live at RELEVANT)

A stunning wedding in Casuarina yesterday but this time I was there wearing my other hat, as a singer! I was asked to sing a song entitled Oceans. It's such a dynamic and beautiful song, I think I'll be suggesting it to my couples in my role as a celebrant. I was lucky enough to sing it as the bridal processional made their way into the room.
Check out the link. Even though it is a christian faith song, the words could be adapted if necessary for those who preferred it less religious.

What a beautiful night at Greenmount last Saturday! A couple decided to turn their 60th birthday combined celebration into their wedding ceremony. Only their children and I knew about the surprise. When they cut the cake, well, just before they cut the cake in front of their 80 or so guests, the groom popped a figurine of a couple getting married on top of the cake, then announced that it seemed like a waste of a good cake not to have a wedding as well! He got down on his knee in a mock proposal (they have been engaged three years) and then said to the crowd, "any celebrants in the room?" so I peeped up "I'm a celebrant!", and on it went, such a great couple and I wish them both a wonderful continued life together.

Grateful for weddings that allow the opportunity to see new places. Last weekend we dodged the rain at Yaroomba on the Sunny Coast for the ceremony of Phil and Shelley. The coastline up there has a beauty all its own. A heart was created with with some of the leftover sand from the unity ritual on the rocks at the place where we stood.

The simple beauty of a bamboo archway with frangipanis at each corner and some flowing white fabric. This was the archway that Zac and his gorgeous bride Natalie stood beneath at their Broken Head mid week wedding. Every wedding is special, and theirs was no exception. Their love for each other was almost tangible!

27/11/2014

It seems I am the lucky one. Yesterday I had the great pleasure to be the celebrant for two beautiful people who had their wedding at Broken Head north of Byron Bay. The sun shone brightly on these two, then, shortly after and just before the reception, it started to rain! It's said that rain is auspicious on your wedding day! This was a match made in heaven, and I can't wait to show you the pictures, pure bliss...

I just received this gorgeous photo from one of the couples I married recently at Hastings Point on the Beach. They had their reception at Tyalgum. I couldn't think of anything more beautiful than the contrast of those two locations. I feel sure the visitors from Brasil would have loved to experience the beauty of our wonderful country.

21/11/2014

Looking forward to a wedding at Broken Head next Wednesday. It's a bare foot wedding, well, I guess the beach is the perfect place for that, but my short stature might mean I have to stand on my tippy toes to hold the mic for the vows!!

I found these words, and adapted them slightly. Composed by Patti Wiggington, they were a perfect choice for yesterdays baby naming ceremony, I wonder if you agree?
"To be a parent is to love and nurture,
to encourage her to be a good person.
To guide her along the right path
and to both teach her and learn from her
It is to rein her in, and, to give her wings.
It is to smile at her joy, and weep when she in pain.
It is to walk beside her, and then one day, allow her to walk alone.
To be a parent is a great gift you have given yourselves.
and perhaps the greatest responsibility you shall ever have."

Here is an early picture of my beautiful grandson, Oliver, just to remind me of the importance of Patti's words.

This was the setting for yesterdays wedding at Mavis's Kitchen Mount Warning, and it's days like these that I realise the gift in what we do as celebrants. To be able to be a part of someones marriage, holding space for them, for the guests, is a privilege that I never take for granted.

"Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day..." The baby naming for Lyla was absolutely gorgeous, she looked so pretty, and the setting was delightful. I suggested the song "I Hope You Dance" and the couple agreed, so we played it while the godparents and parents signed the certificates. If you have never listened to this song, may I suggest you do? Written by Tia Sellar, and recorded by Leanne Womack, it is a beautifully scripted song about rising up to life and all it brings to you. (Thank you Lucille for your gorgeous certificate design-they were perfect!) Here is a little picture of the table set up xox

It's a beautiful day for a wedding, so, I am off to marry a couple at Mavis's Kitchen Mount Warning!

Marriage ceremonies doesn't always have to be a formal affair. There are couples who would prefer to have a very small event, just them, a couple of witnesses and the celebrant. Often these are held in a natural environment, and what I notice is the way that nature becomes the other guest, a quiet, observant role, simply witnessing without comment, how wonderful! If you ever feel like ducking away and doing this, just remember that you still have to give just over 4 weeks notice to your celebrant, for legal reasons.
Meantime, I shall continue with the final touches to a baby naming for Sunday, and a magical wedding at Mount Warning on Saturday. I am blessed indeed xox
The picture below was taken at one of my favorite places, Corindi Beach NSW. Would just love to hold a ceremony there sometime!

Look at this photo of Sunny and Justin, one of the couples I had the honour to conduct a marriage ceremony for. The little boy is looking at that cake with so much anticipation in his eyes!! It was an absolutely gorgeous wedding of two people who are so much in love xox

Writing a ceremony is an honour and a privilege. Some couples know exactly what they want to say and can craft their own vows, and source their own verses or songs, but for those who can't, it's lovely to engage with them and discover who they are to best reflect their personalities at their wedding ceremony. Being a celebrant allows you to earn the trust of the couple, so that you can serve them in the best possible way. This is one of the things I love most about being a celebrant.

20/10/2014

Two beautiful weddings, one at Paradise One in the Mullumbimby Hinterland, and one at Hastings Point. Isn't it wonderful that weddings can happen anywhere, anytime? Congratulations to Bacca and Codie-Lea, and Gemma and Sam, and thank you for entrusting me with your ceremony.

Spring and summer wedding bookings are coming in, and with this beautiful weather we are having I can see why couples are feeling that love is in the air!! Just a reminder for those romantics among you that Valentines Day is on a Saturday next year, so, get in early if you want to secure a great wedding location, and the celebrant of your choice! Hope you like these pics I took of some beautiful flowers

As Celebrants, we are often asked to source verses or songs for our clients, and as we all know there is such an unlimited supply of material to draw from that it's often just a matter of getting a sense of the people you are working with and trying to find something that truly reflects who they are, or in the case of a life celebration, who they may have been to certain people present. But ceremonies can go beyond this as well. I noticed today a celebrant who was looking for a particular kind of poem for a situation that involved the word 'infinity' and it caught my eye. In that very moment I was inspired to compose my response to the word Infinity in terms of the love of a couple for their daughter. I would love to share it with you here.

Infinity
The flow of life, in a single fluid shape
Never ending, winding its way in continual motion.
It’s a symbol of the love within us, the love around us and the connection we share
Expressed in nature by the tides, the seasons, the moon
Ever present, but not always visible, like the blood through our veins
We trust in this absolute truth,
We wrap you in the safety and security of our heart love for you
And so it is, and so it is, and so it is…

Last weekend my darling husband Leigh and I provided music for a gorgeous wedding in Brisbane at Newstead House, right there on Brisbane River, in the rotunda. I have always been a singer, which is one of the reasons I became a celebrant, as I felt completely relaxed to be in front of a crowd of people. The bride arrived on a dragon boat as Leigh sang "I'm Your's", then, as she walked up the winding path from the jetty I sand "All of Me" (the John Legend song). It was a beautiful ceremony conducted by a celebrant with a wonderful sense of humour! His mother had actually been the celebrant for the grooms parents many years before, isn't that extraordinary? The music continued with me singing "Come Away With Me" for the signing and then Leigh singing "Better Together" as they were presented as husband and wife. We then sang, "All You Need Is Love" together as the wedding party walked through the crowd to be met by the many family and friends who congratulated them. When the bride gives me the ok I will post some pictures of the happy event, meantime, here is Leigh and I singing our hearts out to the beautiful people there!
