I began my interest and education in Graphic Design & Photography fairly young. Since first grade, all I ever wanted to be was an artist. But there comes a time when you realize the term starving artist exists for a reason. For most of us there is not much money to be made in this field, regardless of the immense amount of talent it requires. Art is just not a necessity in everyone’s world. It is an enhancement to the world. For this reason, I toyed with “more realistic goals” for sometime. I remember my Mommom, whom I loved dearly, urging me to get into the medical field, simply because there is more money to be made there and I would better be able to support a family. I realized it was something she wished she would’ve done. However, even though I had a caring nature, my passion was never in that direction. I was simply born to be an artist.
I would spend all day in elementary and middle school doodling and creating on every piece of paper laid in front of me, even when I should be paying attention. I was a quiet and weird child yet loud and vibrant. My desk was always a mess and my fingers, always crayola marker stained. I had only a few close friends but whenever we had a group project that involved art supplies, I suddenly had a million friends and everyone wanted me in there group. To be honest it was all I was really good for. Early on I struggled with school. But my mind was in the clouds constantly creating.
By the time high school rolled around, I changed my mind at the last minute from going to a Catholic school, to going to a Vo-Tech school. It was one of the best decisions of my life. I went to Delcastle Technical High School in Newport, Delaware. This is where I finally learned that my art could help support a family. I put all my creative energy into learning how to become a graphic artist. And excelled quickly in shop. I won many design contest including two state wide SKILLS USA competitions and was sent to the national level twice where I placed as high as 4th in the nation. I found a new confidence and became the me I am today. I was no longer a lost little lonely girl. I found my path. To create.
From there I went to Delaware Tech College in pursuit of my dreams where I took an elective in photography. I always had a simple digital camera and enjoyed taking photos and integrating them into my designs but once I got a DSLR in my hands everything changed. I still loved design, but Photography took my heart by storm. After that class was done I began Limetree and with the help of a network of photographer friends I began to grow and still continue to learn to this day. Constantly perfecting and fine tuning my craft.
