A Black History Moment
Frederick Douglass was born into slavery around 1818 in Talbot County, Maryland. Frederick Douglass is known as the father of the civil rights movement. He rose to prominence through determination, brilliance, and eloquence to shape the American nation. He was an abolitionist, human rights and women's rights activist, orator, author, journalist, publisher, and social reformer. As a slave, he was denied education, but he believed that to be truly free, he had to learn to read and get an education so he can think for himself. He was an advocate for education. Hence his quote, “Knowledge makes a man unfit to be a slave.”
As we celebrate Black History, not just in February, but throughout the year, let us always remember our ancestors who came before us and paved the way. Because of them we can. Ase
