Adelaide Aquatic Centre - The New One

Construction at the site of the new Adelaide Aquatic Centre is underway

New centre features
Excavators are removing more than 22,000 cubic metres
Work on installing more than 700 piles to support the building and aquatic structures
Will be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy
1000 square metres of land will be returned to Park Lands once the new centre is completed and the existing centre is demolished and returned back to Park Lands.
New centre features
50m, 10-lane indoor pool for swimming carnivals, water sports and recreational use
25m, 8-lane outdoor pool
Dedicated indoor warm water rehabilitation pool
Dedicated indoor learn to swim pool
Lagoon outdoor pool
Entry level diving amenities which can also be used to perform a range of diving styles including bombing
Indoor leisure water with splash zones and waterslides Spa, sauna and steam room
Outdoor splash pad with waterplay
Outdoor aquatic zone with BBQs and lawned areas
CafΓ© available for both centre visitors and other Park 2 users
Gym and fitness facilities three times the size than first planned
Inclusive amenities and changerooms
Improved car parking with access from Jeffcott Street
Improved pedestrian and cycle pathways connecting the centre with existing networks.

Capturing History - Adelaide Aquatic Centre

Now permanently closed and soon to be knocked down to make way for the new aquatic centre in the northern Adelaide Park Lands, which is acually right behind the current one. Stick around and you will see the new one

Opened - 20 December 1969 and featured a 50-metre Olympic-sized swimming pool and a smaller adjacent pool (33m x 21m) used for aqua aerobics, canoe polo, diving, underwater hockey and water polo. The wet areas also include an octopus-themed 'Octopool' for children's swimming lessons and recreational use, two leisure pools, two water slides, two spas, a dry sauna and a steam room, the centre offers a crèche and a health club equipped with cardio machines, pin-loaded weight machines and free weights. There are also shops providing swimming equipment and food, and an outdoor barbecue area

Capturing History

Vadoulis Garden Centre - Yesterday closed it's doors after 64 years in Business, 55 years of them were at its current location in Gawler South Australia.

Vadoulis Garden Centre was a well established, highly awarded garden centre that has been servicing the local area and its surrounds since 1960. It has existed on its present site in Gawler, north of Adelaide since 1969 after growing too large for its original, humble site in the Barossa at Rosedale.

I thought I might take some shots of the garden centre and revisit it at a later date and see what becomes of this site.

Aurora Australis lights up night sky

As the millions of photos slowly fade away from your Facebook feed, I decided to slot one of mine in. On the 11th of May I was sitting at home when a good mate of mine took a shot of the sky with his phone. I quickly said a few choice words and hopped into the car and drove an hour across Adelaide to hopefully witness this beauty for myself. Let's just say I got there just in the nick of time to have the KP rating hit 9.0 and to see these beautiful beams with my own eyes. It's been on the bucket list for so many years and that night made we so very happy!

The saga of the former Le Cornu site

Photo 1 is the current development called Eighty Eight O’Connell, Second photo is the former Le Cornu Site 1989 and the last photo is the vacant site that sat for years.

For the past 30 years or so the old Le Cornu Site in North Adelaide has had various plans but none had ever taken off. Untill now

Built across three towers, the development will offer:
:Below ground – 394 car parking bays for resident, commercial and public use.
:Ground level – an active retail strip with cafΓ© and restaurant tenancies and open spaces for the community.
:Level one and two – commercial suites, bringing workers into O’Connell Street and providing services such as medical consulting to residents of the building and broader community. Amenities for residents such as indoor/outdoor swimming pools, gym, spa, sauna and squash court. A large outdoor terrace accessible to the public and can be used to host community events.

I had the pleasure of photographing the Barr Smith Library located at The University Of Adelaide after a very fresh paint job. Normally off limits to photography but I had a open invite to get in there one morning while it was quiet.

During the restoration project of the University of Adelaide’s historic Reading Room, considered to be one of the most beautiful libraries in Australia, staff uncovered a flight of paper planes flown by distracted students into the nooks and crannies of the building – some more than three decades old

You would be mistaken if you thought this was a real pub but it was used by a famous advertising agency in London Saatchi & Saatchi in TV adverts for beer and coca-cola selling Australia to the world.

Red Hill Hotel is out the back of Silverton Nsw on private property and requires permission and a fee to visit, it's now mainly used by photographers for group workshops. Get in touch with Adam Edwards Photography if you are interested in getting up close and personal with this gem. Adam offers all types of workshops in and around the Broken Hill / Silverton area
