I’ve been living in LA for less than two weeks and suddenly I’m posting a bathroom mirror selfie for the first time ever? Has vanity gotten the best of me that quickly? Do I need an intervention already?

Being here is an adjustment, but overall I like my new surroundings. You locals can come check up on me in person at my first gig as an LA resident this Wednesday 11/29, 9 pm at the wonderful Mermaid Bar at 428 E. 2nd St. in Little Tokyo.

It's mere hours away in Europe at this point, so get ready to say happy 90th birthday to Miss Petula Clark! This Tuesday, November 15 at 12 pm EST, we're going way beyond "Downtown" to celebrate and give all the flowers to the artist who I believe has had the longest career in the history of recorded music.

Can anyone name another artist whose recording career has spanned 73 or more years? Petula released her first records in 1949 - Tony Bennett didn't start till '51 - and she's released new music this year. I'll be sharing Petula tracks from all nine calendar decades, the 1940s to the 2020s. This 90th Birthday Spectacular is my third annual birthday tribute to the ultimate chanteuse, and it's one of my favorite shows of the year.

A momentous November of IRL gigs is upon us. I’m back on vinyl in NJ this Sunday and most thrilled to announce my first-ever LA gigs later this month!

It starts tonight and tomorrow (Friday 11/4 & Saturday 11/5) with the weekend dance party at Berlin - Under A.

My first NJ vinyl gig since February 2020 finally goes off this Sunday 11/6, 6 to 10 pm at the awesome Low Fidelity Bar in the Heights of Jersey City.

Next weekend I’m back at the current East Village home base The Bowery Electric for more weekend dance party madness, Friday 11/11 & Saturday 11/12.

It all culminates in LA the week of Thanksgiving. I’m so excited to be spinning an ‘80s vinyl night at The Mermaid with HeyyRiggs, DJ Jazzabella & DJ Jen Rock on Wednesday 11/23. I’ll return the following night on Thanksgiving proper for my first solo LA gig ever.

It’s all happening!

Save the date: on Sunday, November 6, from 6 to 10 pm, I will be spinning vinyl out in the world in NJ for the first time since February 2020. It would be amazing to see you for my first set at Low Fidelity Bar, 328 Palisade Ave. in the Heights of Jersey City.

We’ll pick up the feeling we left off with at my former monthly residency The Vinyl Age at DC's Tavern, which ran from November 2015 till the bar’s closure in February 2020 - not a pandemic casualty, they got out of the business just in time.

The difference this time? Not only have I just about doubled the size of my collection, I’ve learned a whole lot more about it by sharing these records with the world in the course of 1,500+ hours of livestreaming.

Big thanks to Pat. James Longo, the definitive DC’s DJ for the entirety of the bar’s existence 2003-2020, who now curates the weekly Sunday sessions at Low Fidelity, and was kind enough to save an evening for me on the schedule.

It’s a great neighborhood spot with a thoughtful beverage selection and thoroughly satisfying Detroit-style pizza. The set is on a Sunday, the hours are hospitable, and it’s even the Giants’ bye week. If not now, when? Hope you can make it.

For the second year in a row, I’m proud to present a massive collection of amazing friends from the global DJ community to celebrate my birthday with an online event called The Lexicon Festival.

It begins Wednesday, March 9 with The Lexicon Pre-Party. Anchored by the ’80s throwback event I do every Wednesday with my Chicago brothers diasfunK and Greg Corner, we get started at 4 pm EST. I play at 8 pm EST, followed by three carefully chosen selectors to round out the night. 6 DJs and 11 hours of music on day one.

The main event is The Lexicon Festival on day two. It’s a journey that unfolds over the course of 20 hours, with 18 DJs from around the world on Thursday, March 10, beginning at 8 am EST. My set is at 9 pm EST.

This trip-around-the-sun triptych concludes Friday, March 11 at 12 pm EST with a special countdown on day three. I’ll be conducting a musical tour of every Billboard Hot 100 #1 song from all the birthday weeks of my life to date. Rather than playing them chronologically, I will be ranking them from worst to first, Casey Kasem style, like I do for my weekly themed countdowns every Friday at that time.

Thank you for all your support during the past 365 days. As announced early last week, my NYE gig at Littlefield was canceled out of an abundance of caution given present circumstances; I support the decision.

Francis Albert Sinatra was born on Sunday, December 12, 1915 in a tenement at 415 Monroe Street in Hoboken, New Jersey.

The building burned down in the early 1970s. So at this point, it’s not so grave a tragedy that a new condo development went up on that ground just a few years ago. At least they named it Frank’s Place and restored the Walk Of Fame-esque star which used to mark the sidewalk there.

What began as a Thanksgiving Eve event last year has evolved over the past 52 weeks into a weekly Wednesday institution. This week, we celebrate the first anniversary of Be Kind Rewind.

NYC area friends, you’ve been asking when you can see me spin in person outside of the hectic East Village weekend party scene. Online friends, you’ve been asking when I’ll finally livestream a gig from a venue out in the world.

The Harmonic Convergence of these two events events is finally happening this Monday, November 22 at 9 pm EST at Rise Radio, 57 Graham Ave. in Brooklyn. Come through for this special one-time, in-person edition of a monthly new wave night we've been doing online since earlier this year, New Wave Heartthrobs.

I'll be joined by my collaborators on this project, DJ Neil Armstrong (Jay-Z's DJ on multiple world tours) and Les The DJ (as seen at The Smithsonian Institution and other famous places). We'll be spinning '80s new wave at this community-focused, full-service bar/cafe and restaurant.

Neil is based in Japan while Les lives in DC, so this is unlikely to be repeated anytime soon. This will also be my first time bringing vinyl outside of the house to spin since my last gig at DC's Tavern in February 2020.

You only turn 89 once. I’m celebrating the 89th birthday of one of the great voices in music, Miss Petula Clark, with my second annual Twitch tribute to her on Monday, November 15 at 12 pm EST. Free one-click viewing at twitch.tv/mikecmusic

This once-a-year event will span what may well be the longest career in the history of recorded music. There will be tracks she has released in every decade from the 1940s through the 2020s. Perhaps there are other artists who have accomplished this, but my research so far hasn’t turned up anyone.

Every Friday, I channel my inner Casey Kasem and host a livestream countdown show based on extensive research that only I am nerdy enough to undertake.

I don’t just recount the top hits of the year, I rank and contextualize them in an effort to tell a story. The viewers get to vote on a handful of the selections via interactive polls too.

This Friday is the culmination of my most ambitious of these projects yet, The 80* Best Songs Of 1980. The asterisk* is because there was so much amazing music that I expanded this countdown to 120 songs over three weeks. This time out, we finally get to the cream of the crop: the top 40 of those 120 songs.

Thanks to everyone who checked in on me during and after Hurricane Ida’s trip through town. I’m ok. My basement flooded, but I don’t seem to have lost anything of importance. I got lucky.

I will be doing my Friday countdown livestream, but may need to start later than the standard 12 pm EDT. The furnace and hot water heater need to be checked out here, and the repairman is expected at 11:30, so don’t be surprised if the show starts late.
