🍋MIKE’S MUST HAVES🧄
Episode 10 of Mike’s Must Haves: “October Edition”
1. Citrus Plants - citrus plants work great as indoor plants if you bring them in when it starts to get cold outside. Keep them in a sunny area in a tight pot to help them flower during the winter and prevent the soil from being too wet. Because they are a shrub and have lots of roots, make sure you are thoroughly watering them, and you’ll have a lovely citrus smell filling your home in no time.
2. Garlic - garlic is extremely easy to plant, and now is the perfect time to do it! Plant them 2-3” down in the soil, and make sure to trim the flowers in the spring and early summer. We have 15-20 varieties of garlic, including hardneck varieties that have a stronger garlic taste, and softneck varieties that are a smoother taste.
3. Naturalizing Bulbs - these are bulbs that you can plant anywhere! Now is a great time to start planting your bulbs for a rewarding spring. Make sure to plant the bulbs twice as deep as the bulb is wide (4-6”).
Be sure to stop by Skillins and check out our wide variety of bulbs and garlic to prepare for spring, and our citrus options!

Episode 9 of Mike’s Must Haves: “September Edition”
1. ‘Mums’ - we all know them, and we all love them. We grow ours right here in Falmouth, and have plenty of colors to choose from. They’re long lasting, and really brighten up fall days.
2. ‘Anemone’ - these perennials flower in a few different colors, and are sure to come back each year. They add a beautiful color to your fall garden, and are very long lasting.
3. ‘Blue Princess’ - also known as holly, this traditional plant grows beautiful red berries after pollination. Plant in a slightly sheltered area to have them come back year after year, and prune in early spring to give them a nice shape for the upcoming seasons.
4. ‘Dutch Master’ - plant this bulb in the fall to get bright yellow flowers in spring that grow larger every year, and best of all, the deers won’t eat them!
5. ‘Snowdrops’ - these bulbs are the first true sign of spring, especially when they pop up through the snow! They’re hardy and return each year.
Be sure to stop by Skillins soon and check out our fall shrubs and perennials that are on sale, plus our fall bulbs!
