WIP and final pics of a new cosplay I'm working on for myself... Mixing two of my fave franchise, Star Trek and Star Wars. Mixing the robes of the Jedi with a Starfleet-inspired colour pallet and other various motifs has been a fun design challenge. Can't wait to start sewing!

Photo dump of the progress on the cloak. Just have some topstitching to do on the left cuff and the outer layer is done. Then it's on to making a lining/facing pattern based on the shell pattern. Then make said lining and attach it. I'm SUPER happy with it so far!

Did a bunch of fabric shopping and swatching buying. Also spent a bunch of time while I was on a work trip doing the mental math of pattering a bunch of the costume. Since I had all the cloak fabric and had a solid idea about its ex*****on, I started there.

After several iterations and chats, I think I've got the final core costume figured out.

I should also mention I'm thinking about black trim rather than the tealy-blue.

Here are pictures/videos of the WIP and completed kit of the famous Battlestar Galactica from Ronald D Moore's re-imagined series that came out in the mid-late '00s.

Aside from the parts in the box, I did some research and found that the Paragraphix photo-etched parts are an important add-on to fix the scale issue with the turrets, add ribs to the interior of the flight pods and provide the option for the museum windows in Galactica's starboard flight pod.

I also purchased the Acreationz aztec decals to ensure the ship gets the added texture such an esteemed ship deserves.

I'm also lighting the kit, the first time I've ever lit a kit. Some of the features include LED strip tape in each flight pod, red SMDs in the pod "garages," window lighting in the bow, and, la piece de resistance, Arduino-controlled dimming LEDs with fiber optics to give the engines a fluctuating look.

I'll also be using the Arduino to for sounds, too, but more to follow on that later.

So.... Had a bit of a snafu with the fabric for the body which I will detail later... But. While I take a break I thought I'd post some progress pics.

The jacket is being made from the Xscapes Props pattern (formally Roddenberry Entertainment/Lincoln Enterprises).

Trousers and undershirt are made from Bad Wolf Costumes' FC/NEM trousers and VOY undershirt patterns, with some modifications.

My financial situation has changed a bit and I have a chance to spend some on something "fun" for myself. I'm having trouble deciding. Options are:
1) "Salt and pepper" dress uniform from Star Trek Insurrection/Nemesis and late-DS9;
2) "Mk III" monster maroon (to fix some issues with my current Mk II);
3) TNG male skant;
4) Blade Runner blaster;
5) Green Lantern costume involving leatherwork, thermoplastics, molding/casting and LEDs; and,
6) Ghostbusters ghost trap (to finish my gear).

I'm open to other suggestions for expansions to my portfolio/commission offerings. Photos are just examples. GL pic found on Pintrest and used without permission, but again, it's just an example - my costume will be a lot different.

I'm very excited to announce that I've been commissioned by the National Museum of Science Fiction to craft a replica of Admiral James T Kirk's uniform from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. It will feature in an exhibit over the summer alongside an 8' model of Andrew Probert's refit-Enterprise.

I'm so excited for this opportunity and cannot express how thrilled I am at taking on the challenge.

While many of you have seen and seem impressed with my Monster Maroon, I've learned a lot more sewing skills since then and have engaged a group of amazing sewists and folks knowledgeable about the uniform to help me make sure it looks as good as it can.

Here's my monster maroon. It took quite some time to source fabrics that were either correct or a close-second. This is made from the pattern available at Xscapes Props (www.xscapesprops.com) and is the only authorised replica pattern available. A few minor alterations to the pattern are required. This uniform has been made to within 95% of the specs based on screen-used uniforms thanks to the help of the Starfleet 1701st Star Trek Uniform Club (starfleet1701st.yuku.com). There are a few minor inaccuracies that will be corrected for production garments.

The uniform features Starfleet, rank and other insignia made by the artist who crafted them for the film.

Uniform will be made to your specs in terms of division colour, department stripes, rank, commendations and years-of-service.

So a highlight of my day at FAN EXPO Vancouver was getting a selfie with Star Trek Continues Official Group veritable Captain Kirk, Vic Mignogna!

I want to send a shout out to all the amazing cosplays I saw and a huge thanks to everyone who asked for a picture!

171 likes/follows! That's incredible! I want to thank you all for your support. Means a lot to me as I start trying to build my business. If I could ask one more thing: if a friend of yours mentions needing help with some cosplay stuff, think of me?

While I wait (very im)patiently for the jacket trim to show up, I figured I'd move on to the command division shirt.

So I've been thinking about my page. As much as I want it to be a professional page to showcase my work for prospective clients, I also wonder if I shouldn't add more fun to the page with things like cosplay articles, sci-fi news and maybe the odd meme.

While I know it's my page and my call, I'd appreciate input from my current followers. Thanks!

It's finally really coming together! I have to go back to the drawing board with the cuffs a bit. Since the cuffs have a band of division shirt fabric in them and I only want to have one jacket, I'm working on a away to make them removable. Still have to have a bit of a think. But. It should all be done by the end of the weekend!

All three division colours together. 😍😍 Sorry. I know emojis aren't very professional, but, c'mon. They look awesome together. The command and ops are a bit darker and the sciences is more green than pictured.

Finally! Some progress! I'm not keen on dyeing fabric, so I've been scouring places for decent division shirt fabric. I also ran into sizing problems making the jacket so I took a break.
