Roxanne Christian, Whitby Trafalgar Castle School alumni, is a graduate of Berklee College of Music. Roxanne has over a decade of experience working with physical, mental, emotional, and cognitive needs within district school boards, municipal nursing homes, psychiatric hospitals, and other populations within the community and globally. She is registered and Board Certified through the Certification Board of Music Therapists in the US and the Canadian Association for Music Therapy. www.LiveLoveLifeMusic.com

During WEEKEND CAMP, Roxanne will offer these two workshops....

DRUMMING TO ZEN - All Ages
This expressive healing arts drum & wellness circle starts off with rhythmic activities to warm the body, increase focus/concentration, and get your creative rhythms flowing. We then transition to djembe instruction (hands on learning of patterns/beats, playing percussion instruments, and improvisation/free play). No experience required.

We wrap up the circle with a cool down series incorporating movement, breathing methods, chanting, and music meditation. This series presents tangible take-a-way tools/physical exercises for daily relaxation and stress management!

This session is ideal for older youth and adults; however, all ages and the whole family are welcome!

THE AMAZING MUSIC MIX UP - All Ages
This is a FUN INTERACTIVE music experience involving group singing, movement & dancing to music, exploration of various world percussion instruments, playing hand chime songs, activities with balls, movement scarves, gymnastics ribbons, and parachutes. The workshop finishes with a relaxing cool down stretch and music mediation to the live sounds of the Tibetan Singing Bowl, Rain Stick, and an Indigenous Wooden Flute!

This session is ideal for children; however, all ages and the whole family are welcome!

Another invite to you, locals, to come to Big Heart Dance Camp! We gather near the town of Honeywood - approx. 35 minutes south of Collingwood.

Allow me to introduce you to WENDY ROMAN from Lions Head....

Wendy is a lifelong dancer, a movement facilitator and a community builder. She's a lover and collector of music (including a large vinyl collection!) and has built and runs a unique straw bale dance studio called Rhythmwood, located on the Bruce Peninsula.

Teaching conscious movement since 2003, she is a Nia Black Belt, DOWH facilitator and a Soul Motion Leader. As a member of the Soul Motion School mentoring team, she accompanies and supports new teachers through their training process.

Wendy believes that the world needs more people in motion, moving consciously through life. Through her work she helps to empower the individual to find more joy and meaning in their own body and life.

Big Heart Dance Camp, a local & Ontario wide gem, is delighted that Wendy will be back at camp sharing her gift of guiding conscious movement. She will be offering her love of music & movement during the Weekend Camp - Friday to Sunday.

RECEIVE, RELEASE, RESTORE

Exploring Fascial Release Techniques &
Conscious Free-Flow Dance

Receive - Learn to feel and receive feedback from your body. Connect to sensation to develop greater self awareness and presence. This is vital to understanding the unique needs of your body, so you can live your life with more comfort and ease.

Release - Let go of tension, release fascial restrictions and strain using simple & effective techniques. When you learn where you hold stress in your body you are empowered to make positive changes to free up your body and your life.

Restore - Gently restore health and fluidity to your body, mind and soul. Welcome wholeness and well-being back into your life so you can move through the world with ease and grace.

MOVING TO WHOLENESS

Through embodied inquiries and conscious dance, this workshop invites you to come back into wholeness. We'll explore simple & effective techniques to return home to the body. This is vital if we want to live in our full potential as human beings. Dropping awareness down into the pelvic bowl allows us to root and connect to the support of the earth. Here we find our ground, our stability, our roots. We breathe, receive, integrate and live life from here ... in the present moment.

Wendy's DJ theme is...

LOSE YOUR MIND & COME TO YOUR SENSES

Come down from the tower of thought.
Sink deeply into your body.
Feel your weight on the earth,
and know that you belong here.

Such a pleasure to have this potent gentle guide with us. These photos of Wendy were taken by MOPO at various Big Heart Dance Camps.

Kristin Lindell

Join us at the 11th Annual Big Heart Dance Camp this Summer Solstice!

Here is one of our many fabulous Big Heart facilitators...

KRISTIN LINDELL is a dancer that loves to sing and a singer that loves to dance!

Kristin is a singer songwriter and music facilitator who has released two albums and performed her original folk-roots music across Canada. She has shared workshops and performances at festivals and local venues such as Hillside Festival, Harbourfront and Nathan Philips Square.

She has offered over a hundred Music and Dance workshops in classrooms in Toronto and Vancouver schools with Learning through the Arts and Vancouver School Board. She has delivered empowering workshops on social justice, equity, racism and many other issues through dance and music.

WAHOOO! Fabulous, eh!?

This is what she is excited to share this year...

Body Song Circle
Getting into the flow of our body, we will use movement and listening to tune into the sounds our body & voice would like to make and how to find our voice in community. With grooves, harmonies and vocal percussion, we join together and create a circle song, weaving textures and sounds together.

You don’t have to have any singing experience to join, just a desire to express yourself and connect with your voice and the group through sound.
All ages welcome.

CATHY BROWN is a Collingwood Rock Star that has been coming to Big Heart for many years. She comes on her own and takes the opportunity of BH to be a space where she presses her 'Refresh' button. She is a passionate dancer, soaks up all the eclectic classes that are offered, as well as, the deep peace that the land/water provide. The cherry on top is having 3 homemade meals prepared lovingly by Alta and her team :) Always a treat for busy parents!

Cathy loves conscious movement. After university in 2006, Cathy traveled to India and Nepal to pursue her passion of yoga. Surrounded by the Himalayas, Cathy (Amritananda) was trained under Guru Yogananda in Kathmandu, Nepal in an intensive one-on-one training program Surrounded by the Himalayas. Since then, Cathy has settled in Collingwood with her husband, Scott and has opened two retails stores Awear eco-boutique and Metra Fashion House. She teaches Hatha Yoga at Active Life in Collingwood and hosts regular family yoga classes accompanied by her 2 yr old twin daughters, Berlin and Roxanne.

Cathy has been sharing her love of yoga at BH for many years. We are excited about this new slant to her annual class...

FAMILY YOGA - Saturday Morning
This playful class is geared toward children and their family members. It incorporates movement, conscious breathing, yoga postures, partner poses and time to connect with each other through mindfulness activities. All ages are welcome. Storytime and light breakfast to start.

Who Are You Dancing For?

In Nia, the only person we aim to please is the self. Nia movements are guided by The Body’s Way, which is a method of using the body according to its inherent design and function. Instead of forcing ourselves to bend and twist in ways that strain or injure the body, we seek dynamic ease.

Classes in Creemoe & Collingwood starting April 22nd
