It is always a privilege when a family entrusts me with honoring their loved one’s story.

This morning, we gathered at Wint Funeral Home in Clarkston to celebrate the life of Raven Jazmine Kinser.

Raven’s story was one of adventure, resilience, and fierce love. A lifelong lover of horses and her cats, a devoted friend, a protector, and a gamer with a sharp wit and an even bigger heart. She embraced life on her own terms, standing strong in her beliefs and making those around her feel truly seen.

Following the service, family and friends gathered at Ottawa Park Cemetery for her committal. In a moment both heartbreaking and profound, we honored her final journey. Surrounded by love, she was gently returned to the earth, a soul forever cherished, a presence that will never fade.

What Types of Rituals Do Funeral Celebrants Offer?
When you’re planning a funeral or memorial, it can be hard to find the right way to honor your loved one. Rituals can play a big part in creating a service that feels personal and meaningful and give you a way to express emotions and memories when words aren’t enough.
As a funeral celebrant, one of my favorite parts of this work is helping families incorporate rituals that reflect their loved one’s unique story. It doesn’t have to be elaborate—sometimes the simplest gestures carry the most meaning. Lighting candles, for example, can symbolize the light your loved one brought into the world. It’s a beautiful way to start a service, and it’s something siblings or grandchildren can take part in too.
Some families love the idea of releasing doves or butterflies, especially if the service is outdoors. These moments can be powerful symbols of peace, freedom, and celebration—a way to honor a life well-lived. Planting a tree or a rose is another thoughtful ritual, creating something lasting that you can visit for years to come.
You can also make the ceremony space uniquely yours. Maybe your loved one was a teacher or a book lover—why not decorate with their favorite novels? Or display quilts, crafts, or collectibles that show off their passions. These small touches can help everyone feel connected to their life and legacy.
Rituals don’t have to follow any set rules, they should feel right for you. Whether it’s hanging notes on a blessing tree, wearing their favorite color, or incorporating elements of their culture or heritage, it’s all about making the ceremony a true reflection of the person you’re honoring.

📖 A Walk Down Memory Lane with Carlee & Ryan💕

Today, while sorting through old files and scanning them into my computer, I came across Carlee and Ryan’s wedding folder, and I couldn’t help but smile. Their wedding was one of those that just sticks with you, filled with so much love, happiness, and connection that I’ll always remember it.

They found me on Facebook, and we first met at a park in Oxford while their kids played. We just clicked. Their rehearsal was effortless, their ceremony was windy, beautiful, filled with laughter and tears, it was one of those weddings you never forget.

Re-reading Carlee's email from all those years ago felt like a warm hug on this cold winter day. This is why I do what I do, because love stories like theirs deserve to be celebrated and remembered. ❤️

💖Vows That Speak From the Heart 💖

Not all vows have to be the classic "repeat after me" style! I love when couples put their own twist on things, like Andrea and Zach did with this heartfelt back-and-forth exchange.

Their promises were personal, funny, and so authentically them. From feeding each other when hangry to embracing every quirky trait, these vows captured the essence of their relationship perfectly.

💬 Andrea and Zach’s Vows:
Andrea: I promise to love you unconditionally through our triumphs and defeats.
Zach: I promise to love you until the end of time.
Andrea: I promise to trust you even when I think you’re wrong, and listen to you even if I know what you’re going to say.
Zach: I promise to trust you even when I think YOU are wrong, and to listen to you… even when you are going a mile a minute.
Andrea: I promise to always feed you when you get hangry.
Zach: I promise to make you relax even when you don’t want to.
Andrea: I promise to never stop making you laugh and never stop impersonating you in all your forms.

Andrea: I promise to never try and change you. I fell in love with you because you were always true to yourself.
Zach: I promise to accept you the way you are. For all that you are. I fell in love with you because you mean what you say and say what you mean.

💍 Happy National Spouse Day! 💍

Today is all about celebrating the love and commitment we share with our better halves. This July, I’ll be celebrating 30 years with this amazing man, and honestly, I couldn’t imagine doing life without him. From the big moments to the little ones, he’s been my partner, my rock, and my biggest supporter. 💕
As a wedding officiant, I get to see so many couples start their journey together, and it’s such a beautiful reminder of what makes marriage so special—the love, the teamwork, and all the memories you create together.
