"Age alone does not make one a 'man'.
To be a man first be responsible to and for oneself, then be responsible to and for another, then be responsible to and for your community. Until you have accomplished this continue your life as a 'boy'. If these words offend you, good, truth often does offend."
- The Heiðinn Chronicles

Our Way...

"So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.

Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours.

Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.

Seek to make your life long and it’s purpose in the service of your people.

Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.

Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place.

Show respect to all people and bow to none.

When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the food and for the joy of living.

If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself.

Abuse no one and nothing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.

Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."

- Óðinn -

"To Þórr who strengthens me,
to Óðinn Aldaföðr who teaches me,
to Rig who guides me,
to Freyja who loves me,
I give honor this day...
To the Æsir and the Vanir, the gods most High, to the Asynjur whose love sustains me daily, and to the Alfar, who delight me with their beauty and grace, I thank for your many gifts...I walk the Norðurvegr, Ásgarðsvegr, for this is who I am."

At the top of this page l have pinned 6 posts, these are my truths, my journey, my Path of the Way - 'fróðrsmiðlavið' - wisdom shared

We are first in the 'Awakening', when we feel the call of our ancestors, which is our Gods' voice.

Next we are in the 'Becoming' wherein we come to realize we have always been Heiðinn we just could not see ourselves. The journey then takes us to our true selves...we learn each day the way of life our ancestors lived, seeing this world as did they enhanced by our worldview which is our time reality. We do this by knowing our history, sharing our heritage, living our heathen culture. We offer to share our journey on this Page.

l am on the Óðinnic Path. l am man, father, grandfather, elder, mentor, leader for my Folk. l resisted this for many years for l understood the concept of sacrifice. In my time l realized l actually had no choice, this is my 'urðr' and so l accept my responsibility and step boldly onto this Path of the Way. l do not advise anyone to join me here, it is enough for most to 'awaken', to 'become', and step onto the Heiðinn Path of the Way.

Fire of Spring...

Honouring the Spirits of Bealtuinn.
A Self Ritual for Bealtuinn.

As I walk round my Circle I stop and look to the South. I look into the Fire of the South and send my Blessings…
I give thanks to Fire in the South, for the burning fire of the Serpents energy expanding throughout the land below me in the womb of the Mother, bringing new growth, transformation and fertility.
And I thank the Sun Father who touches and warms the seeds deep in our Mother and creates abundant growth throughout the lands.
Who brings passion and sexuality, growth and self-expression and creativity, which come from Fire.
Let the power of Fire brighten my new thoughts and feelings and bring warmth and life to the Mother as she fulfils her promise of a new harvest in my Wheel of the Seasons.
Blessed Be. /|\

As I walk round my Circle I stop and look to the North. I look deep into the Earth feeling her beneath my feet and send my Blessings…
I give thanks to Earth in the North, for the energy and fertility of the Mother, for abundance of growth, and the glories of nature enfolding before me and for all its gifts around me.
As my Sun Father stirs the new life back into my Earth Mother bringing the life energy, surging through the lands, I celebrate all growth of the flowers, trees and animals, the abundance that Earth gives and the way this manifests in my life in the here and now.
The Earth which maintains the Food for the people and animals and nurturing the thoughts and emotions of Love and Peace. All manifested between Star and Stone.
Let the power of Earth nourish my thoughts, and in the Mother Earth, encourage and strengthen the seeds maturing deep in the land.
Blessed Be. /|\

As I walk round my Circle I stop and look East. I stand in the caressing Winds of Air. As it touches and caresses my face, my body and all around as I send my Blessings…
I give thanks to Air in the East, for touch and embrace and communication. Of Natures sounds carried in the winds, as it makes the Tall Ones, the Trees, Dance and Sway.
As my thoughts begin to manifest, I should try to heed them and follow my inspiring path of expectation blessing my Inspiration and Vision.
The Air which also feeds communication between my mind and heart manifested in speech.
Which I must try to heed, as I know, Words have power, Invocation has power.
Air brings me the breath of life and love and song expressed in words which breathes the seed of life, of future thoughts and life in the lands, now and forever.
Blessed Be. /|\

As I walk round my Circle I stop and look West. I look deep into Pool of the ripples of the ever expanding Pools of the Healing Waters as I send my Blessings…
I give thanks to Water in the West, which has brought me contact with deep mysteries.
For the awareness of my emotions and where they might lead me to.
For the subtle energies deep within me and the natural world, bringing them outward and finding creative ways for releasing my Awen.
As the King of light Spirals from out of the Dark, he awakens the messages of our dreams and inspiration creating new beginnings.
Manifesting in the Glories and the Wonders of Nature and all Creation, letting the power of the Healing Waters feed the new life force as like the blood of the Mother pulsates throughout the lands.
Blessed Be. /|\

As I end my walk round my Circle of the Wheel of the Seasons I stop and stand in the centre of my Sacred Space. I look high into the Stars and thank the Eternal Creative Spirit.
Within, Without and ever present. The unseen but all around, in all I see, all I touch, Quickening through the Lands of the Mother.
As the lands are now ablaze with greens and shoots, buds and leaves and the Spring flowers, new life to the animals and birdsong singing in the winds and trees.
I feel myself part of all life, all existence. I touch the Sacredness, the still power at the centre of my being.
I touch the Spirit. I give thanks to the Spirit for reaching out, connecting me to my guiding source deep within.
I give thanks for this vital connection, to this essential part of myself which cannot be seen and cannot be named.
Through it I am part of all life, and all existence on this Earth and beyond.
Blessed Be. /|\

Where there is Life there is Spirit,
Where there is Earth there is Life,
Where there is Air there is Breath,
Where there is Fire there is Warmth,
Where there is Water there is Existence,
Where there is Existence there is Life,
Where there is Life there is Spirit. /|\
And the Circle is complete, only to begin again.

Harald Hardrada: The Last Great Viking Leader
Born Harald Sigurdsson in Norway in 1015, he fought as a teen at the Battle of Stiklestad, waged in 1030 by his half-brother Olaf Haraldsson, the exiled king of Norway, in an attempt to return to power. Instead, Olaf’s forces were defeated, he was killed and Harald went into exile, eventually doing a stint as a mercenary for Jaroslav the Wise, grand prince of Kiev. Harald then traveled to Constantinople and joined the Byzantine emperor’s prestigious Varangian Guard. After becoming a wealthy, accomplished military commander, he returned to Scandinavia by the mid-1040s. There, he formed an alliance with Svein Estrithson, a claimant to the Danish throne, in an effort to combat King Magnus the Good, who ruled Norway and Denmark. However, Harald ditched the partnership with Svein in 1046 when Magnus decided to make him a co-ruler of Norway. After Magnus died the next year, Harald gained full control of the Norwegian throne while Svein became king of Denmark. Harald went on to fight Svein for years, but despite winning the majority of the battles Harald (whose nickname Hardrada translates as hard ruler) opted to make peace with his adversary in 1064 and give up his claims to Denmark. Harald then shifted his focus to England, invading it two years later with a large force and scoring a victory at the Battle of Fulford Gate. However, just days later, England’s new king, Harold Godwinson, wiped out Harald’s army at the Battle of Stamford Bridge, during which Harald—later referred to as the last of the great Viking warrior kings–was killed. Less than a month after that, Norman invaders led by William the Conqueror defeated the English at the Battle of Hastings, during which Harold Godwinson was killed.

Leif Eriksson: Beat Columbus to the New World by 500 years
Generally considered the first European to set foot on the North American continent, Leif got there nearly 500 years before Christopher Columbus. Believed to have been born in Iceland around 970, Leif later moved to Greenland, where his father, Erik the Red, founded the first Norse settlement. Around 1000, Leif sailed off in search of territory that had been spotted years earlier by an Icelander named Bjarni Herjolfsson when his vessel blew off course on the way to Greenland. During his expedition, Leif reached an area he called Helluland (“flat stone land”), which historians think could be Baffin Island, before traveling south to a place he dubbed Markland (“forestland”), thought to be Labrador. The Vikings then set up camp at a location that possibly was Newfoundland and explored the surrounding region, which Leif named Vinland (“wineland”) because grapes or berries supposedly were discovered there. After Leif returned to Greenland with valuable timber cargo, other Norsemen decided to journey to Vinland (Leif never went back). However, the Viking presence in North America was short-lived, possibly due in part to clashes with hostile natives. The only authenticated Norse settlement in North America was discovered in the early 1960s on the northern tip of Newfoundland at a site called L’Anse aux Meadows; artifacts found there date to around 1000.

Nice Rock Cairn

Ship setting on Gotland, Sweden that measures 18x5 meters (54x15 feet). Ship settings represent the final journey to afterlife. We have over 2000 in Scandinavia, most originating from the Viking and Vendel Ages.

This particular one, however, is much older. It is dated to the Bronze Age and is 3000 years old. The legend says that it is the grave of Tjelvar - the first man to arrive to the island of Gotland. Burned bones were found in it, so there may be truth to the legend.
