Making the world healthier 1 person at
(10)
My name is Jenny Rodriguez, I'm a mother, trainer, competitor & survivor :-)
I was born and raised in Iceland but was brought to Florida when I married into the military. I've always had passion for sports and fitness but learned first hand how strength training can change your body after building myself up after a horrific car accident. I believe in being healthy and enjoying life, take care of
your body and it will take care of you. Eat healthy foods, exercise and sleep, it doesn't have to be complicated but if you feel like it is I'm here to answer your questions. Every day I learn more and more about how amazing the body is and how much we can accomplish if we put our minds to it and train and eat wisely. I plan on using this page to share what I learn and help w**d out the crazy amount of information that is out there. I come from the land of Fire & Ice, I've got a passion running through me like hot lava in my veins & ice cold determination that is keeping me on track.

Physique Update
2023 goals:
Increase calories and add on muscle while maintaining good body composition.
Maintain good health, low inflammation and minimal pain while getting stronger and more flexible.
So far I'm upp about 350 kCals while maintaining my weight, sitting happy around 133lbs (varies from 132-134) and getting stronger.
8 week challenge goal met, it's not always about weight loss.
Workouts/Cardio
4x 20min am walks, fasted, low intensity.
4x 20min walk post workout or evening.
2 days lift, 1 day rest, 2 days lift, 1 day rest and repeat.
Workouts have become more intense with drop sets and other fun torture techniques 😁 and I'm loving it.
Food
Eating mostly whole foods and drinking my liquid egg whites.
Staying caffeine free, gluten free, alcohol free, dairy free & artificial sweetener free.
Not gonna say I've been perfect in all of that but majority of the time I'm doing well.
Supplements
Taking supplements to help support my micronutrient needs, to keep my stress minimal, inflammation down, thyroid healthy and hormones balanced.
And to help with my protein intake 😁

Be your own Superhero
We tend to look to others as a source of inspiration and idolize people on social media or celebrities and while finding inspiration in others is all fine and dandy we often forget to look within ourselves and our own accomplishments for inspiration.
We minimize and discard things as something of less importance than if a stranger or someone else would've done it.
Which is not fair.
Give yourself credit when credit is due, it's not being cocky or self absorbed.
We are allowed to celebrate our own accomplishments and and let it fuel our confidence and drive to be better.
And we definitely should look back and see how far we've come, so that we can let it fuel our future.
Be your own superhero and be inspired by your own accomplishments.

Health First
Last 4 years have been quite the up and down with my internal health, managing early menopause for the past 7 years and finding the right HRT dosage was rough and took a long time. Still trying to do life and even prep (last one in 2018) then big life stressor after my last show in Oct 2018. IYKYK
But I'm never stressed (being sarcastic here), in general that's true but even though you don't feel stressed and you brush things off, your body feels it.
Spending these past years learning alot about, hormones, gut health and internal health I start realizing that I'm checking an awful lot of boxes when it comes to recognizing there's trouble.
Last fall I got an endoscopy and come to find out that I have an esophageal ulcer 😳 , as well as silent reflux.
Me being me I want to know how to fix it and am not so keen on just taking medication (I tried and felt worse) cause I want root cause not bandaid.
Realizing stress and rushed lifestyle was a big factor I get to work on changing that.
And then my primary care physician started asking questions and sent me out for some extra bloodwork which showed strong signs of autoimmune disease, specialist appointment pending.
I now realize that I am in over my head, knew enough to know I needed extra help, I had talked to Jason Theobald before, taken his courses and go e to several seminars with him in the past. So when I decided to message him, he had already told me he'd be there when I was ready.
So in April we started.
1st order of business was to get my body healthy.
So elimination had to happen.
No caffeine, no dairy, no artificial sweeteners, no gluten and no alcohol 😳😆 I know.
But we had to eliminate anything that could possibly cause inflammation.
Some of these will get reintroduced.
My body was basically inflamed mess. Plus my cortisol curve was off and other issues there so work needed to be done.
Anti inflammatory foods, some supplements and cut back on lifting (only 3 days a week) along with walking and yoga for stress management.
And weight started coming off the 1st week.
Oh look what happens when health comes before the number on the scale 😉
Jason kept giving me more food, more carbs and I just kept slowly dropping some weight. Once it was time the calories started coming down again.
Bloodwork was done again, lipids, hormones was all better but inflammation/autoimmune issues are still there. We're still working on it. It's not a quick fix.
But since April many of my symptoms have gone away, I feel better, my skin is better, joints feel better, digestion is better oh and I've lost 19lbs so far.
I haven't been at this weight since June 2019.
Despite 1 big cut and 1 mini cuts since then.
Has it all been easy? No.
Have I failed? Yes
Have I gotten back on it and will keep at it? Absolutely
I have a goal and its not a short term goal, but a long term one with several different facets and we're just getting started.

8 lbs in 8 weeks
My results after the Summer Challenge, pictures shown from the side in a non flexed/posed position.
Quite obvious difference
If you've followed me for a while you've seen me do the 8 week challenges with limited results when I was trying to diet.
The difference this time was 2 fold.
1) Better quality food, while the amount of calories matters most, the health of your body affects it too and your bodies health depends on the quality of food you give it.
2) And that leads to my 2nd point and the biggest difference, my body is healthier. I had given myself time to take care of my body, I'm still on that journey but since April I had been feeding my body properly, reduced the amount of stress and made a point of managing the stress I had, so when we dove into this calorie deficit my body was ready, and responded appropriately averaging a loss of 1lbs a week.
And not done with excessive cardio and gym every day, but
30min walks 5x week and weight lifting 4x week.
I'll go into my health journey in a different post but I wanted to show how putting health first and weight loss 2nd can actually lead to the fat loss you're looking for, we might not all have the same timeline, but remember loosing fat should be a side effect of healthy lifestyle and taking care of yourself, not the main objective.

Growth
Off season is hard on most Competitors, after months and months of dieting and watching progress both in the easy you look and on the scale l, you head into a season where at first it seems like you're going backwards and then not moving at all.
The thing about muscle growth is that it's slow, and you won't see changes every week, and since you're eating more the scale will go up and it will fluctuate.
This can often be very hard if you keep focusing on it and sometimes might even hinder your growth cause you are afraid to see the numbers on the scale go up.
With the scale was definitely getting in the way and causing more anxiety than was needed.
So we ditched, no weigh ins. Just weight goals in the gym.
So we set some PR goals and she went to work.
And look what she has accomplished over the past year 👏🏻👏🏻😁
There's about 20-25lbs difference here and while yes there has been some body fat gain, there has most definitely been some muscle growth.
She's worked hard while also working as an ER nurse, being a mother, moved, gone on vacation and all the other stuff normal people do, but ahe has kept working, lifting and eating.
Things will never be optimal, the key is just to be consistent and keep showing up.
Proud of you Selena and can't wait to see what we got once you lean out.

Client Shout-out
So excited for damacha_studios Figure Debut.
Last Oct she competed in her 1st show in bikini category at 60 years young.
Then qe decided that figure would probably fit her structure better and started focusing on building for that division.
With only about 4 months of true building (not counting the recovery time post show) before getting into prep again I think she made some great improvements and is absolutely looking like she belongs in figure.
We got 2 shows planned for this year and after that we'll take a full year off for some real growth.
I definitely know she's for when I turn 60 and I'm so proud of her.

5 Key Things to focus on
People tend to over complicate this getting healthy thing.
All kinds of intricate diets and equipment isn't needed.
Specially when you're just starting out.
Master the basics before you go out and search for the best diet, fat burner, pre workout etc.
1. Sleep - if you're not sleeping then your body is not recovering and "detoxing" this will end up stalling your fat loss and muscle growth.
2. Movement - yes ideally you should resistance train, 2-3x week to start out with is excellent.
But even if you're not there yet, just starting by walking more will make a huge difference. Set a step goal every day and get it anyway you can
3. Nutrition - nutrition does matter, a lot. Cut out junk food and liquid calories, focus on eating protein, fruits and vegetables. And you're probably not reading enough of either.
4.Drink your water - every cell in your body is mostly water and can not function properly without being hydrated. You'd be amazed at how much difference it makes in the way you feel and how your skin looks when you get enough water.
5. Stress reduction - stress wreaks havoc on your body and will impact everything from your gut to your hormones to the way your skin looks and how you feel.
Get these 5 things under control and you'll see and feel changes, then if needed you can start making tweaks.
Don't focus as much on the scale and more on how you feel.
As always I'm here if you have any questions.

Same food again 😩
It's one of the most common thing I hear, "I could never eat the same thing every day"
I have couple of things to say about that.
First off, whether you're on a diet or not, humans are creatures of habit, same order every time at whatever fast food/coffee place/restaurant. So in reality you're probably already eating the same things over and over.
Second, if you learn how to track your macros/food, you can change things up and still stay on track.
And third, sometimes when you're working towards a specific goal you need to limit your intake to certain foods for a time period.
But that doesn't mean it has to be boring.
As an example:
For breakfast this past month my plan has blueberries, egg whites, 1 egg, and oats. Amounts vary some depending on if its a lifting day or not but it's always these 4 things.
And I've rotated between these 3 breakfasts.
1. Oats with omelette and blueberries on the side. Salt, monk fruit and cinnamon used for flavor and seasoning.
2. Overnight oats, where everything except the egg, just goes in a jar with little bit of salt and monk fruit. Then I hard-boil the egg. This is great when on the road or quick crab and go.
3. My favorite; pancakes. Mix everything in a ninja blender, salt and monk fruit if want. Then make yourself a pancake 😁 guess I could make a waffle too 🤔 I'll have to try that this weekend.
So I've eaten the same thing for breakfast this past month, but yet I haven't 😁
Now I'm not very creative with food, yet I was able to come up with these few things to "change it up".
So you can too.
Stick to your plan, just change the presentation 😁

🎉 2023 IS HERE 🎉 Can't wait for the season to start for judging, coaching and promoting. 1st show I'm promoting is the @ocbmagiccitymuscle in April with my friend @nates_fitnessig in Trussville,AL This show has been growing every year and we can't wait to see this year's line up. Next up is a brand new show @ocbcheckeredflag in Daytona Beach, FL in May. I'm looking forward to growing a show on the East Coast of FL, I know there are a lot of great athletes there. Then there's @ocbfireandiceclassic the OG, my original, in Panama City Beach in August. Last year was a great one and we're going to continue to improve. And finally the flagship, the Pro/Am, the largest OCB Show in Florida @ocbtampa in Tampa in November. Offering PRO Classic Physique and PRO Men's Physique this year as well as all Amateur Categories. Registration for all shows is available on ocbonline.com or you can go to the profile of each show and find it there. And look for other great shows in we have in AL, FL and beyond with shows from available starting in Jan until Dec. I look forward to seeing new and old faces this year. -Jenny
8 week Challenge. How many times have you heard that? From me about 4x a year for the past 5 or so years From all over social media, gyms etc probably million times. 8 week, 6 week, 12 week challenges are all over all the time. And most of them fail Why? Cause people look at that time limit as IT, they only have to do what is required for that specific time and that's it. Except that's not how it works. Trust me I've gone through that several times. The time of the challenge is just to get you started on the road to a better you, and once the challenge is over you continue on with those habits that you've developed. And if you continue that over time you'll get to where you want to be. These are clips from the start of the Winter Challenge in Jan, Spring Challenge in April, Summer Challenge in July and finally Fall Challenge starting now. Also shows you my weight chart over the year. Down total of 20lbs. I'm entering now because I'm not done. Because I still have work to do, not in loosing weight (see previous post about health journey), but in getting the look I want. The look I want will require alot of more work and I'll need all the accountability I can get. But I'm ready to use these 8 week challenges as stepping stones to get me there. However many I'll need. Cause it's about the journey as much as it is about the destination. #GlacierBodies #1stPhorm #Iam1stPhorm #BeBetter #BestSelf #FitMom #VetTech #RedPixie #DuesPaid #LegionOfBoom #BeThe1 #WeDoTheWork #1stPhormAthleteSearch
