12 days into the new year and I already need a reset. 🙄 Never in my adult life has a New Year’s Day dawned when I didn’t have my calendars complete, my planner’s planned and my resolutions ready for the fresh new start each new year brings. But this year was different and I’ve been behind since before Christmas…and I’ve yet to catch up. Normally the week between Christmas and New Year’s is one of my favorite times. A genuinely slower pace fills the days with the bustle of Christmas out of the way one can just sit and bask in the Christmas tree lights and plan the coming year. This plan was already foiled as I spent the last four days preceding Christmas assisting in the rescue of our wild deer❤️ after that successful mission, even though I needed nothing else for Christmas it was Christmas Eve and gifts had to be wrapped, meals prepared, stockings stuffed. Christmas Day came and went in a blur of exhaustion and relief and the next morning it was straight to work, preparing for family coming just two days after Christmas. (something we’ll plan better next year!) Their visit lasted through New Year’s and was wonderful and chaotic and the days since they left have been filled with cleaning, laundry, catching up and the unplanned car repairs that January always seems to bring. Now, today, nearly two weeks in to the New Year, I hope to fill out my planner. Frankly, I don’t know how I’ve existed these last 12 days in unplanned chaos! Excited to be getting back on track. I know some of my friends out there will understand! After 30 years of planning plans, foiled as they oft may be, it’s hard to not. ***Photos of the snow covered evergreen swags on the flower field gate and my new favorite mushroom 🍄‍🟫 ribbon♥️*** #2025

Christmas came early yesterday at our house. With the BEST gift we could ever ask for… A few months ago we noticed a young buck in our area with a huge tangle of nylon rope/netting stuck in his antlers, wrapped around his neck and trailing many feet behind him. We were all very distressed about it and didn’t know how to help. We only saw him sporadically but as the days grew colder, he started coming around more frequently and the past couple weeks with some regularity. Last week, while sharing my sadness and frustration about the whole situation with my good friend Bogie he put me in touch with Melissa a research support specialist at the Cornell Wildlife Health Lab and she, the wildlife health vet, Jenny and their intern, Jill and I spent the last 4 days freezing our arses off in snow and subzero temperatures while attempting to free this sweet boy. Our efforts were rewarded yesterday morning when Jenny was able to tranquillize him with a dart and cut the tangles off so he could be free!!! It was a real Christmas miracle and we are overjoyed! We are unceasingly grateful to Cornell Wildlife Health and this stellar team of skilled, compassionate and dedicated women for freeing this sweet boy!! We love all our creatures here and hate seeing any in distress, especially when we’re not able to help. These 3 women were just what we and he needed. If you’re considering a donation this holiday season (or ever) consider the wildlife health lab at Cornell; we can’t sing their praises loud enough. May all your Christmases be as joyous as ours! Happiest Holidays to all creatures great and small! ❤️

3 years ago we had a bumper crop of peaches 🍑 from one of the trees I had planted. (see first four pics) The branches were so heavily laden with fruit that we had to support them from breaking before harvest! The past 2 years, between late frosts and peach leaf curl, we’ve had nothing 😢 This year was shaping up to be the same when I spied a handful of fruit very high up in the tree. I got out the ladder and put the extension on the picker and began my harvest. A sad seven small peaches, mostly inedible ☹️ So we’ve had to supplement this year with (for whom I should be the spokeswoman because they are my favorite and I tell everyone I know and meet that they’re the most perfect piece of fruit you’ll ever taste!) and we’re eating and drinking all the peach recipes this summer and especially this month as August is Go out and grab a taste of summer before it’s gone! 🍑🍑🍑

I’m a little late with this post but just in time for This was Friday, 🇺🇸Flag Day and the perfect opportunity to use my “new” vintage patriotic plates & china! Gotta love the red, white & blue! We picked up some farm fresh strawberries for one of our favorite cocktails; Strawberry Gin Smash🍓🍓🍓. A fabulous Flag Day fete indeed!

Throwback to patriotic parties & posies of Memorial Days past. This Memorial Day is rainy 🌧️ and super windy 🌬️!! Not flag-flying weather nor outdoor celebration weather! And my co-host is in North Carolina visiting the grandkids so no party this year but I’ve already got a patriotic table scape in mind for Flag Day next month! 😆Hope everyone’s holiday is happy! Happy Memorial Day! 🇺🇸

Thank you to everyone who purchased my tulips this month I hope to be back next winter with more tulips to brighten the darker days. Right now, the last of my tulips, that took their time blooming, are brightening my kitchen (against a snowy backdrop!) and making me look forward to next year!

Same photo. Same me. Same ornaments. In my bedroom…40 years apart! Since our bedroom is finally finished and I finally have a tree in there, I decided to add my old collected, vintage and handmade ornaments from years past to replicate the tree in my bedroom 40 years ago. A close family friend of my parents made a bunch of ceramic Christmas ornaments for me when I was born and I still have them all! This tree and these ornaments remind me of my childhood and make me smile 😊.
