The Oscar-nominated is *finally* available to rent on YouTube and Vudu. It's a beautiful little movie about the brief, but impacting friendships in our lives, and the way things used to be, for better or for worst. Hilarious, heartbreaking, moving, and masterful. My review:

The touchingly poignant and immaculately animated "Robot Dreams" is, in itself, the stuff of dreams.

was a TV movie starring Gary Coleman that aired on NBC in 1985. It was Coleman's first dramatic role. It was thought to be lost, but remarkably, was found in its entirety and uploaded to YouTube. It's quite enjoyable, buoyed by a strong lead performance and its unpredictability. My review:

Recently discovered after presumed to be lost, "Playing with Fire" is a thoughtful fable starring Gary Coleman as a twisted fire-starter.

has R&B singer Brandy battling the mother-in-law-from-hell in Kathryn Hunter, both of whom giving tremendously compelling performances in a film that's unsettling, hilarious, and scatological. The complete package! My review:

"The Front Room" is an unsettling flick that welcomes comedy into the mix thanks to two juxtaposed combative performances.

has some delicious needle-drops (remember "MacArthur Park?") and some fun individual sequence despite the fact it falls short due to a deluge of underdeveloped ideas. My review:

Despite the 9,998,383,750,000-day wait, "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" generates enough smiles to warrant its existence in a hellscape of legacyquels.

Remember Justin Guarini, the runner-up to Kelly Clarkson on the first season of ? I got to catch up with the singer, who now serves as a performance coach and public speaker. We chatted about his "Idol" experience, his friendship with Kelly Clarkson, , and more! Take a listen!

The runner-up of the first season of "American Idol" is now a mentor/coach.

Before , it's imperative, I'd argue, to revisit what started it all back in 1988. My review of , the film that made Tim Burton. My review:

Gleefully operating without rules, complete with a director guided by his own artistic zeal, "Beetlejuice" succeeds almost in spite of its madcap sensibilities.

Tyrese Gibson has one of his finest hours in #1992, a crime-thriller featuring two converging storylines set with the Rodney King riots serving as the backdrop. In select theaters. My review:

Tyrese Gibson shines in "1992," a more-than-meets-the-eye crime-thriller.

I'll be playing catch-up with reviews of #1992 and in the coming days. In the meantime, the best movie playing in (most) theaters at the moment — in what has been a horrible moviegoing month — is :

Fede Álvarez's penchant for body horror and moody atmospheres plays right into the clutches of Facehuggers in "Alien: Romulus."

Certainly didn't have Donald Trump's nephew on my metaphorical "interview bingo card," but I'm glad the opportunity arose. Fred Trump III has been called "the quiet Trump," advocating for folks with disabilities just like his son, William. We talked about his new book, his fateful meeting with his uncle, and more. continues the worst month of new movies I can remember. Revolving around an smart-home AI device, it's a thriller whose own intelligence is artificial at best. However, blessed so, it's short and somewhat admirably dismissive of the many ways in which it sucks. My review:

"AfrAId" is a thriller whose own intelligence is artificial at best, almost admirably dismissive of the many ways in which it sucks.

Midweek concerts can be rough, but proved worth it. It's inspiring to see a band that's still unified and energetic after a couple decades on the road. My mother was a huge fan; six-year-old Steve had "Down With the Sickness" living rent-free in his head. Twas our final Back Waters Stage concert, and it capped off enough special year .

is such a delight: a coming-of-age movie from the perspective of a 13-year-old boy, who is struggling with identity and managing friendships in the year 2008. What a lovely, low-key gem to end the summer. In theaters. My review:

In its hyper-specificity, Sean Wang's "Dìdi" achieves universal appeal and delight.

does a handful of noble things, but it too often feels like a compilation reel of Sunday school teachings that squander both its entertainment factor and its tale of faith coming into a young boy's life. My review:

"The Forge" too often wants you to endure Sunday school monologues as oppose to entertain you with a compelling tale of faith coming into a young boy's life.

As unlikely as it was, manages to resurrect the series from the bowels of hell, offering the most compelling plot of the sequels and more than a few recognizable faces, including Kirsten Dunst, William Atherton, and the late, great Fred Ward. My review:

Like its title suggests, the third "Crow" somewhat saves the series from the bowels of hell.

Zoë Kravitz's debut is the pulpier version of , complete with a trigger warning, brutal violence, and more than a couple great performances. In theaters. My review:

Zoë Kravitz's directorial debut "Blink Twice" keeps the recent trend of movies that (fairly) demonize the ultra-wealthy alive.

remains as engrossing as it is devastating. A bitterly sad tale of death, resurrection, and vengeance, underscored by its moody, trendsetting visuals, and of course, the tragic death of its star, Brandon Lee. My review:

Unfortunate legacy aside, "The Crow" is a compelling thriller with the look of a graphic novel and a talented lead at its center.

might be the most forgotten entry in the Coen brothers' filmography, somewhat undeservedly so. It's got some stretches where it's a comedy desert, and Tom Hanks might be miscast, but it's nothing if not consistently amusing. My review:

The Coen brothers' remake of the 1955 Ealing comedy amuses, if you can tolerate the turtle's pace at which it moves.

As a fan of Fede Álvarez ( ), it wasn't only a treat to see him at the helm of a new movie, but also employ some of the most dreadful atmosphere and gloominess this series hasn't seen since the likes of the original. My review of :

If you're a bar or restaurant owner, you're going to want to use some of Wills' tricks!

The new thriller initially intrigues, then starts to plod at the midpoint until you're hopelessly confused and eagerly awaiting the end credits. My review:

Lionsgate executives effectively chopped, screwed, and butchered their film adaptation of , going as far as to give it a PG-13 rating as if to assure it would effectively please no one. A bitter disappointment involving a lot of talented people. My review:

Having no connection to the "Borderlands" video game series, I'm proof you can watch this film with no prior knowledge and still be bitterly disappointed.
