We Are the World: The Greatest Night in Pop: Latest DJ Dave's Musical Musings Blog

March 7th is the 39th Anniversary of the single and video for the 1985 charity song "We Are the World." So today I have published a new music blog message on this topic.

My interest on "We Are the World" came from my friend Jerry English, who encouraged me to watch a Netflix film "The Greatest Night in Pop" which came out in late January.

The documentary chronicles the recording of "We Are the World" with over 40 music artists, during the evening on January 28, 1985 and ending the next morning around 8:00 am.

My new music blog has gives information about the recording of "We Are the World" as told by the "Greatest Night in Pop" film.
Then I have a countdown of what I consider to be the 15 best pop singles, by "We Are the World" artists who had solo vocal lines on the charity song.

All the heavy hitters are on my countdown: Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Huey Lewis and 8 more artists are featured.

I hope you will view my new music blog article and then post your comments below. I leave you with the chorus of "We Are the World." Rock on!

“We are the world/We are the children/We are the ones who make a brighter day/So let’s start giving/There’s a choice we’re making/We’re saving our own lives/It’s true we’ll make a better day/Just you and me” Lyrics by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie: “We Are the World” January 1985.

Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd: 51st Anniversary of Legendary Classic Rock Album

March 1, 1973: It was on this day 51 years ago that "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd was released.

This blockbuster album has sold over 45 million units since 1973, making it the 4th best-selling album of all-time. The LP also has achieved a total of 988 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart over the past 51 years.

In 2012, the album was selected for preservation in the United States National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” And the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.

On this 51st anniversary of the superb album, I am fondly remembering attending a Roanoke Symphony Orchestra (RSO) concert last June, where Maestro David Stewart Wiley led his RSO musicians, to have a join convert venture and partner with a Canadian group of rock musicians called Jeans ‘n Classics, for a presentation of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon."

Jeans ‘n Classics and Wiley's RSO combined to perform "Dark Side of the Moon” in its entirety, without interruption, in honor of its 50th anniversary. This was an outstanding performance.
While I was at the RSO concert, I recorded 4 video clips of "Dark Side of the Moon" performed that night and placed them on a music blog message that I published on July 4, 2023.

The 4 video clip songs on my music blog are:

Money
Brain Damage
Us and Them
Eclipse

You can view these video clips here: https://woodsonrva.com/2023/07/04/david-stewart-wiley-magnificent-musical-maestro/

I hope you will view my music blog message on Maestro David Stewart Wiley and RSO on DJ Dave's Musical Musings blog:

Then post your comments below with any aspect of "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd, on David Stewart Wiley and his Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, and/or any other related things with these topics.

I look forward reading your comments below. Rock on!
